Fallout 2 is still good. We're talking about *RPGs* role-playing experiences - games derived from the pen-and-paper gaming world - gameplay holds up and graphics (any at all) are a bit like having a DM that's an artist - yeah it's nice, but without story, imagination, and unique gameplay elements, all that graphical goodness is gravy on a turd (see Oblivion).

In any case, I'd suggest actually *playing and beating* Fallout 2 before commenting. Yes, it's better than Chrono Trigger, Mario, Daggerfall, et cetera. Modern RPGs? Witcher, Mass Effect, and KOTOR were great, but Fallout 2 will still feel like a step forward in terms of openness, flexibility, character customization, story... et cetera

Their is something in this world called timeless games. Just like Super Mario Bros., Super Smash Brothers, Halo, the Chrono series, FInal Fantasy 7, and then some more. JUst because a game gets old odes not mean that they are no good anymore.

Yeah, Chrono and Mario still hold up well into gameplay wise.

I haven't thought of an RPG I played recently that matched the fun I had with FF9.

What mass efect it got 8.5 but oblivion got 9.6 my vote goes to oblivion:lol:fraggerman

The even funnier part is the fact that people can even consider Oblivion a deep rpg, let alone a rpg at all.

First of all, the games I mentioned are better overall, not just for their times. I think a lot of people would agree to that. As for the 90's comment. Dark Cloud is relatively new as is Golden Sun. I also enjoy Diablo, Titan Quest, Oblivion (though lost interest relatively fast). There are plenty of games that have been made post-90s that are definitely worth playing. I said that people saying "Mass Effect is the best" sickens me. It is truly one of the most pathetically hyped excuses for an RPG I've seen in years. Hell, it is more like a shooter with RPG elements. However, the thing that troubled me most was the lack of stuff in the environments. One of the best parts of a RPG is interacting/exploring the environment. I still can't see the hype behind KOTOR either. Perhaps Star Wars nostalgia?

Oh, and Halo 3 can't compete with anything :P

wtf did you do putz around the space craft and get alien pootang, mass effect is a great RPG but i beat the game in like 5 days with about 20 hours logged and i did alot of the side quests to

...but yeah, Torment is probably still the best, although I can't compare it to Mass Effect, since Bioware haven't bothered to port ME to the PC yet.

Every FF (except 11)game and Chrono trigger shouldn't count becauseyou dont do any RPG ing :? There more like skill based adventure games we will call it SBA's. Diablo is some sort of cross between them

SRPG means Strategy-RPG, like Final Fantasy Tactics, Disgaea, Front Mission, etc. That's why he questioned it.

BG2, Planescape Torment, Fallout 1&2, these are the best imo.
