Godfather is coming and so is the Matrix so I'm buying those but ya I don't own any right now.whackedjob213
The Matrix will be epic on Blu-ray. O_O
I don't know how its doing all I know is Netflix doesn't have them (to the best of my knowledge) possibly because of the 360 deal, possibly because they don't care about them. Personally I don't see them replacing DVD anytime soon. You can still get SD TV's as well as HD. It'll be the same with movies.snowman6251
I get Bluray movies from Netflix all the time. What are you talking about.
The original Blu-rays didn't always look much better than DVD because studios didn't do quality transfers, but now every new release looks amazing. I don't know how it's doing overall, but I am buying more and more of my movies on Blu-ray now. As far as games go I don't think many developers are taking advantage of the space yet. One thing I love about Blu-ray disks is they don't scratch. I lost Brawl on my Wii due to my own mistake and a tiny tiny scratch, I don't have to worry about that with my PS3 games. They all look brand new.EmperorSupremeHaha, I too scratched Brawl in just the right spot and now it can't get past the Main menu. Friggin' fail I tell you. I just know I'll buy it again in the next month though :?
Forget about the 50gigs of space, the best Blu-ray feature is that they dont get any scratches at all, thats pretty cool.
[QUOTE="jharv"]What's the status on blu-ray now after two years?litewo
I read that DVD's will be discontinued by next year. So get a BR player (PS3 is the best one!) now.
Lies! They'll remain for a decade after BR becomes the primary format I'm sure.Blu-ray will be probaly be the last format for a long time until we hit higher resolutions like ultra HD or 2160p.:)
Prices of movies need to drop in order for it to take off
I honestly dont see how much better we can make movies and tv shows look, blu-ray as a movie formant i think will be good for awhile. Game wise i can see it needing to be bigger someday when games become photorealistic or when all devs have same quality ideals as kojima.Blu-ray will be probaly be the last format for a long time until we hit higher resolutions like ultra HD or 2160p.:)

But! the main problem about Blu-ray is the reading speed which is very slow compared to DVD and CD, that affects PS3 games to give its full potential I believe.DealRogersIt's not that they read slower, it's that an increase of x speed is more expensive on Blu Rays currently. DVD reading at 1x is 1.35MB/s while Blu ray's is 4.5MB/s and the PS3 only has BR 2x.

All I know is that Pirates of the Carribean on Blu-Ray looks stunning compared to watching it on a DVD.

o yea, but i think that 2160p is too much right now, we just started the HD generation and jumping to 2160p right now seems to useless, maybe in 4-5 years

[QUOTE="farrell2k"]I still haven't see more than 5 or 6 bluray movies at any of the 5 walmarts with 30 miles of me. DVD is still dominating.tok1879
i haven't been to the 5 walmarts within 30 miles of you, but someone tells me you're lying...His name is Mr common sense...
Exactly. I was in a little rural town today of less than 2000 people, and even their Wal Mart had dozens of blu ray titles for sale. Easily 50+ movies.
I dunno but I finally own one Bluray movie now. I say it slowly creepin' but far from doing much more than being in a select group of want.

I don't see how thats possible, I live in by a small city and its Walmart has a whole shelf of bluray movies.
I was by a local Block Buster store and the sales clerk was saying that there getting ready to take some of the DVD section out and replace it with Blu-Ray movies instead.jimm895
that's just flat out stupid seeing how DVD sales are DRASTICALLY better then that of BluRay.

how, besides price
Blu-Ray is way better higher res, better sound quality, and higher capacity. DVD fails in everything besides price.

No game on BluRay has put the 360 to shame like Sony said it would. DVD hasn't failed.
I really don't see it becoming mainstream until they lower the prices of the movies. They could get away with that crap when VHS was becoming DVD, the difference was immense. The difference between Bluray and DVD, not so amazing, and definitely not $15 dollars amazing.DireOwl
i see most blurays 25 bucks. whereas dvds are 15-20...
however if u have a nice hdtv, u can see the difference quite well..

You are a fakeboy and full of it. I live in Canada in a city of 80,000 and my local Walmart has a entire section of Blu Ray.
If you have been to 4-5 walmarts that means your city is larger than mine.
Nice try Fakeboy.

MGS4 is the perfect example of putting the 360 to shame.

Cough, Cough..... Rage. We are a long way from finished this gen and if publishers are announcing that the 360 format is inferior to blu ray wait and see next year.
You fail.

I agree. Give it another 5 years.
Some of us make good money and have a High Def tv so it is not a rip off for me. Just because you cant afford it does not make it a rip off.

They do in the U.S.
Theres an option to recieve blu ray movies whenver possible and I really like it.

I make good money and own a HDTV that I use for gaming. But you're right. The price of those Blu-ray movies are definitely targeting a richer audience. Maybe I need to define the word "rip-off" for you.
