Brand new Zelda Skyward Sword screenshots!!!
This topic is locked from further discussion.
Nintendo must of really felt the pressure from people saying that Zelda was just too much of the same, and their graphics sucked. You can really see their shift in design directions from the first few screenshots and the one below. I'll reserve judgement until I play it, of course.
I really like the look of this game. But those textures man, I know they're going with that impressionist painting art style but those are some FLAT textures.

In terms of hardware Wii>GC>PS2.........what are u saying dude?
Out of those screenshots, it looks like a game developed for the PS2. Nothing else matters.

He's saying it looks like a PS2 game. Because it does.Man I love the artstyle but this game looks like a jaggy mess. Oh well, I don't really care much for Zelda anymore.
*looks at screenshots* LOLMan I love the artstyle but this game looks like a jaggy mess.DillonShwing

Looks good for a gamecube game. As much as I love Zelda the franchise needs a reboot withbetter story, voice acting even if link doesnt speak, and the wii is in need of more power.GotNugzThe Wii single handedly held back EVERY FRANCHISE that Nintendo owns. Not a single game couldn't have been better on better hardware. Really makes you think how games like Super Mario Galaxy were amazing but how much better they would have been without the limited hardware of the Wii.

Kind of how I feel. I'd give up those terrible motion controls for stronger hardware any day of the week. The games wouldn't have been any better but they sure would have looked a hell of a lot better. And a second analog would be nice.

If you conjure up a magical fantasy land where focus on graphics and raw power (and analog controls like Jolt_counter119 is asking for) would have no effect on the final product other than improving it, then yes.
But thats not how things go now, is it? ;)
Monolithsoft would not have developed Xenoblade as we know it if that was the case. Just saying.
Skyward Sword and Galaxy would probably be very diferent in looks and gameplay mechanics too

I know, what were they thinking when they designed the hardware I know they wanted to keep costs down but the wii is basically an overclocked cube. The Zelda wii u tech demo is the game I want to play and I'm not even a graphics whore, but having Advanced physics and ai do contribute to gameplay

I am not qiute sure what screenshots you were looking at, but the graphics still suck. Alas, it's a Zelda game, so I will still play it.

Its a tech demo.
All you have to go by is pretty graphics in TP's style. Nothing else. Which makes your next statement...

... pretty hilarious.

Thats funny seeing as the mario franchise seems to be better than ever
aaaand here we go with the hypothetical "what could've been!!!" BS.
New artdesign looks better every time I see it. This will be one of the better looking games this year no doubt. I can't remember the last time I was able to say that about a Wii game.meetroid8Super Mario Galaxy 2? Muramasa the Demon Blade?

Honestly though, he's not exactly wrong. I mean, think about it- yes, Mario is better than ever before, and Skyward Sword looks incredible, but think about what MORE Nintendo could have managed with hardware that wasn't holding them back like the Wii's does. I mean, Nintendo is a talented bunch of developers, perhaps the most talented of them all, that is evident by how well they made the Wii sing to their tune. Can you imagine the kinds of games we would have had if their hardware was more accommodating? Just think about what they managed with the N64 (the most powerful console of its time), and you'll see how he's making an excellent point.New artdesign looks better every time I see it. Maybe on the Wii. Overall, it's one of the uglier games this year, technically speaking.

Its parallel to saying "if I had 1 more day to study for that test, I would of got a 90". A) you don't know that and B) the reality is there is no reason to assume that everything would just pan out perfectly if the conditions changed. I don't really buy that line of thinking. There is only what is in front of us, not what "might" have been because with that comes the logical conclusion that it also "might not have been" as well.

I understand your point perfectly, and I would agree with it as well, except, this is Nintendo we're talking about. Like I said, they're like the best developers in the world. Whereas it is easy to assume that they could have messed HD development up, and that Mario Galaxy HD and Skyward Sword HD would have sucked, especially compared to how they are right now, wouldn't you rather believe that Nintendo would have made excellent use of the additional resources they had? I'm pretty sure they could and would have. Just my two cents, honestly. Like you said, this is a hypothetical situation, but I genuinely feel that with hardware that didn't limit them as much, Nintendo's games would have been unstoppable. I hope the Wii U and Nintendo's games on the Wii U will testify for me in the coming years.[QUOTE="meetroid8"]New artdesign looks better every time I see it. The technical aspects of visuals are only important as far as they facilitate the art design to flourish and be fully realized. Regardless of any technical shortcomings, Skyward Sword looks incredible. The damage control in this thread is beyond hilarious.
The game, artstyle, and gameplay look jawdropping good. I can't wait to play it.

A game does not need ti be photorealistic to look incredible. Okami and The Wind Waker are among the best looking games of all time, I wonder what you think about them? There is no getting around the fact that Skyward Sword looks like it will be one of the best looking games of this year.Honestly though, he's not exactly wrong. These What if scenarios dont work because you cant magically add all these wonderfull variables to a concept that had a modest system with new controls as a foundation, and expect the same result.
The best Wii titles might not have been made if the system wasnt exactly as we know it.

Doesnt work that way. These games are the direct result of the Wii being what it is.
These What if scenarios dont work because you cant magically add all the wonderfull parts to a concept that had a modest system with new controls as a foundation.
The best Wii titles might not have been made if the system wasnt exactly as we know it.
Maybe so. Maybe you're right, maybe the reason that Mario Galaxy is so creative and wonderful is because Nintendo did not have the graphical oomph to fall back on, and therefore had to compensate with sheer level design and tight mechanics. In that case, yes, maybe Skyward Sword and Super Mario Galaxy were best served by being on the Wii. But maybe, and like I said, I hope the Wii U will prove me right on this one, with added power and resources, Nintendo's games can be better than ever before. We'll see soon enough.[QUOTE="ActicEdge"][QUOTE="charizard1605"] Honestly though, he's not exactly wrong. I am saying that you can't just assume everything pans out perfectly just because, that's not right or correct. You can only judge them off of what they have now, not off of what they "might" have been able to do. I find it ridiculous to say other wise. Nintendo isn't in failable regardless of HD or no HD.

Let me ask you this; if you had to hang up one of these games in a wall at a museum, which one of those realistic looking military shooters would you frame to appreciate and admire?
Its one thing to find a game technically impressive, and another to find it artistically incredible.
Learn the difference.
Oh I agree that more power is always better, but I think the galaxy games are a testament to excellent design being able to overcome technical shortcomings.ShinobishyguyI agree. Like I said to ThunderDrone, maybe in the absence of graphical oomph to fall back on like in the N64 days, Nintendo was forced to compensate by sheer leve; design and tight gameplay mechanics, which is why Galaxy 1 & 2 are so incredible.
I don't know... I'm basically using precedence here, Nintendo's track record is immaculate. I believe they would have made an HD machine sing to their tune. I might be wrong, I'm not saying what I'm saying is hard, indisputable truth- it is just what I choose to believe would have happened had Nintendo had a true HD machine this generation. So, that is a terrible reason. Same could be said of every single game on any console, even the 360/PS3. But you know what? Who cares. These games are already amazing. What more do you want? Just because some game is on more advanced hardware DOES NOT make it automatically better at all. With Nintendo games, you know they're both going to be just as good anyway.

Artistic graphics is all about personal preference. No matter how incredible a person A would find SS to be artistically, he can't deny the fact that the game looks extremely dated compared to the rest of the games being released in the same quarter.

What else matters? Gotta agree with him on this one there is no way you can say any wii game looks incredible without poising credibility yourself. What exactly looks incredible anyway? Blurry textures, jaggies, 480p. It will probably be a good game but halo 2 looks betterPlease Log In to post.
