PS4 needs to launch at the same time as the next X-Box if not before. I don't believe this generation will be lasting as long as Sony and Microsoft say. I expect new consoles in 2012 maybe 2013 at the latest.FlamesOfGrey

This isn't news at all Sony, M$, and Nintendo are all constentally working on new hardware

Yes because they haven't been making money from a handheld that has sold 60 million worldwide, and the most successful video game console in history with a 150 million userbase that after its 10th year on the market still sells 100K to 300K every month, not to mention all the software profits they've earned from PSP, PS3 & PS2 :?

all this article talks about is how theyre involving their developers into conceptualizing hardware, no specs are available at this point

all he talks about is conceptualizing the hardware and its pretty obvious that theyve been doing that ever since they finished the ps3, just like the started conceptualizing the ps3 as soon as they finished the ps2

I do think that is the psp2, however there has also been information before that Sony has been shopping around for potential new hardware for a ps4, it is nothing new tho, and the construction and finalization of such a console could take atleast a few years, before they are satisfied with the results.

But yeah, I do think Sony felt the pain of not launching at the very start of a generation, so while I do think it is a PSP2, they might really run for launch platform to the next gen... And that would annoy quite a few of the PS fans :\

I think it will be the PS4 without PS3 BC.

They have no choice in the matter now, they have to make a new handheld. PSP can't hold it's own against DS and a 3DS. I really can't see it being a PS4. They've only just started making money with the PS3 and to start producing a PS4 would be suicide.

And Sony has confirmed that they're working on a new Playstation:

Sony is working on new hardware in the Playstation family, Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida has revealed The hardware is supposed to be an 'all new concept,' and is being worked upon behind closed doorsin full collaboration with Sony's studio network.

It's most likely that this new hardware is the long fabled successor to Sony's PSP handheld, which is now needed more than ever with the impending launch of the 3DS, successor to the bestselling line of DS handhelds.

Said Yoshida: "When Ken Kutaragi moved on and Kaz Harai became the president of SCE, the first thing Kaz said was, 'get World Wide Studios in on hardware development'.

"So he wanted developers in meetings at the very beginning of concepting new hardware, and he demanded SCE people talk to us [developers]."

When asked if the approach applied to new hardware, he added: "Yes, we are undergoing many activities that we haven't yet been talking about in public. Some future platform related activities."

Sony Computer Entertainment filed a new trademarks patent called the Playview, which was described as a 'Portable electronic device for receiving and reading text and images and sound through wireless Internet access and for displaying electronically published materials, namely, books, journals, newspapers, magazines, multimedia presentations.'

However, it added that the product would handle 'Computer game software recorded on optical discs'.

Sounds to be a PSP2, although it could be the PS4 as well. What do you guys think?

I just hope it's a home console rather than a handheld, I really would dig a PS4, and this generation is already five years old now. By this time, we should have some rumblings of the successors to the current consoles. What do you guys think?

"I'm spending more time on the hardware platform," Yoshida added, "connecting hardware guys to developers. That's my major role now, and Move is one of those new ways of developing platforms."

All 3 are working in new hardware right now, I think that in the next generation the tree console will be very similar, the multipla developers are demanding that, the cost will be lower for they.

PS4 no thanks PS3 still doing great and getting better, PSP2 yes please but please dont release it at the same year as the 3DS I dont have enough money to buy 2 new handhelds at the same year :P.
