WOW is what, $14 a month for one online game? That's $168 a year to play ONE GAME. I think $50 a year is pretty reasonable seeing as how you can play any game you own that has live capability.Trashface
$15 a month, $180 a year. Makes $50 look like chump change.
[QUOTE="jethrovegas"][QUOTE="Ninja-Vox"][QUOTE="jethrovegas"]Where else will you be able to play Halo 3 online? The exclusives define the online service's value.
I think the price is quite reasonable when you consider the exclusive software the 360 has.
Ninja-Vox
The fact that it's Halo 3 online does not make xbox live worth paying for. My point was that there are multiplayer games of equal quality which can be paid online for free.
XBox live is not worth $50 a year. Simple as that.
Halo 3 will have the best MP ever in an FPS. And look at the exclusive DLC, and Live games like LP, and GeoW.
I think it all makes for a nice online package that is easily worth 50$.
If you don't want to play H3 and other 360 exclusives online, then don't buy Live.
Vote with your wallet.
Again; what am i paying for? You're honestly telling me that you pay $50 for the priviledge to play good games? Seriously?
No hackers, no type of viruses, you have the ability to play with whoever you want and literaly council whoever you want based on how you feel on that indiviuals performance (Rep), and so much more.
If they fix the lag problem, you have yourself the best service ever made.
But nothing is perfect, nothing.
[QUOTE="SaintBlaze"]$50 a year isn't that bad. :|

I didn't say i couldn't afford it. I said it wasn't worth it.
Well it depends on who you're asking doesn't it? I mean it's worth it to me because I get to play online with friends, free demos, voice chat and etc.
[QUOTE="0starter0"]If you can't afford less than $4 a month for online service you seriously need to get your economic situation in order.Ninja-Vox
Again, i didn't say i couldn't afford it. I said it wasn't worth it. If i started charging you a dollar a day to breath, would you happily go along with it because "hey! i can afford it!" Heck no. That's complete robbery.
Please tell me how $1 a day to breath = $4 a month for online?
$4 is NOT bad. I could work for an hour and get 2 months of online. Seriously.

The problem is other platforms(like the PC) offer a better core online experience and it's free. Yes it doesn't have all the bells and whistles seamless in the games but all the servers are dedicated and it's VERY rare to see lag once you get good servers. The only game that rarely lagged for me on xbox live was Halo 2. All the other game almost 50% of the time you'd get at least some kind of lag not to mention sometimes finding players/servers is really hard. I don't want you to automatically match me with someone else and waste 10 min of my life. JUST GIVE ME A GOD DAMN SERVER LIST!!!!!!! I don't want to stop playing a game and have to find a whole other server just because 1 or a few player quits.

"And so much more..." is basically "i ran out of ideas pretty fast". Hackers are one thing, but modding and glitching is rampant on gears of war.
Basically, you're paying $50 a year to play games online. That is my complaint. There needs to to be more than that. It should be lag-free. It should have dedicated servers. It shouldn't have first and second-party games with horrible netcode and glitches.
THEN it's worth paying for.

It cost them money to set up the system. They make money through ads. And sponsored downloads. And 6 million people paying $50 every year.
All i'm asking for is bang for my buck. I dont see the problem.

Why does it matter? Are the networking costs different because it's a console? The fact is if companies can afford to make games on the PC and have dedicated servers at THEIR own costs and still make money off the games I'm sure MS could at least support its community with dedicated servers since people are paying 50$ a year for the service. Paying 50$ a year and not having 100% stable networking is just wrong when game companies can afford to do it with no costs to the end users.

depending on the games, some old games are still supported by the devs only. I don't see why MS couldn't rent server names or encourage comapnies to start their own servers for visibility. Paying 50$ a year should give you dedicated servers when another system has them for free simple as that.

MrGrimFandango
What are you paying for? That's my question. Xbox live shouldn't cost money. It's as simple as that. They arent paying to run dedicated servers. You host games on your own connection. All microsoft have done is create software which allows you to connect to other players and do so. The $50 you're paying isn't actively keeping up servers, or going into improvements, or paying for an actual service you're receiving.
It's literally $50 to play games. Why? What do we pay for it on xbox live and get it for free everywhere else?
I've been argueing about this for a long time but Lems always come up with an argument "$4 a month!"
Ok then, assumingmy ps3 has a 5 year life span my ps3 is $8.3 a month. $4 a month argument fails because you are not paying it monthly, its an annual fee. You'll have to pay each year to enjoy online that should be free at the first place.
