So to recap the thread so far, cows/fanboys like @dakur, @tormentos, and @shewganja are basically trying to imply that consoles are pointless if you have a gaming PC.. yet at the same time, they are all fans of the PS4 consoles.. the irony and hypocrisy is fundamentally hilarious..
But to address their assertion directly, i'll limit that statement to the Xbox One.. So let me illustrate a couple things that make your arguments essentially pointless:
1) there are millions of people who simply prefer playing on consoles.. period.. console sales are at an all time high.. this is a fact and no amount of mad cow is going to change that.. Consoles are still the cheapest, easiest, and most practical way to play the latest video games on your living room TV.. end of discussion.. So no matter how you try to spin it, as long as there is a console market, there will continue to be a market for Xbox consoles..
2) this is rather obvious considering the fact I presented above but, not everyone wants to build a dedicated gaming PC.. The laptop I have is not a dedicated gaming laptop.. I wanted a powerful 2-in-1 touchscreen laptop with pen support and great battery life and the Surface Book is arguably the best on the market for that.. It just happens to be able to run video games at an acceptable level as well.. And since I already have Xbox Play Anywhere games available from my console purchases, why wouldn't I also play those on my laptop?.. Additionally, my laptop simply isn't going to give me a better living room gaming experience than my Xbox console.. So again, this isn't going to replace my console.. This same logic also applies to desktops. Whenever I upgrade my desktop to a new device, it will definitely be able to run video games but "gaming" wont be the primary purpose of my desktop. Again, not everyone has interest in building custom monster PC gaming rigs..
3) it actually doesn't matter if you do own a monster gaming rig, Xbox Play Anywhere simply means that you can now purchase, play, and support Xbox branded games on your PC which is obviously a good thing for PC gamers and a good thing for the Microsoft Xbox division.. And if you decide to buy a console for your living room and/or for your kid, you may decide to buy the console that already has an entire library of games that you already own and the console that will continue to allow you to "buy once, play anywhere".. Or maybe you'll decide to get a different console, it just depends on your personal preferences.. that still doesn't change the fact that "buy once, play anywhere" is an obvious value proposition for any unbiased consumer..
But anyway, I know this plain and simple logic is still going to fall on deaf ears for the fanboys I've cited above, but I just wanted to take a second to further debunk their rather silly claims.. Bottomline: features like Xbox Play Anywhere are a great option, no matter how you slice it..
