Ridiculous, if PS3 succeeds, blu-ray wins, end of discussion.Gamer46Ok then see your way out because the only one that ends the discussion for is you. Every home in the world can own a PS3 but if they aren't buying blu-ray movies then the format will fail.
[QUOTE="m3Boarder32"][QUOTE="Kimahriii"]If you wanna talk about the format war I don't think it much of a war its pretty much blu-ray beating HD-DVD by 9:1 theres over 3million blu-ray players just counting PS3s sold and then the stand-alone players and blu-ray sales are killing HD-DVD.Kimahriii
BD movies are outselling HD-DVD movies 1.2:1...Oh knows, the beatdown.......It's like a 10% lead..
Its much more then 1.2:1.

Not Since Inception.Â
For the past month or so, walmart has stacked blu ray discs with twice the shelf space as hd dvd.
Â
Looks like they just signed a new pact.Â

That's why I thought when I read the OP. It doesn't make sense that they switched to HD-DVD but who knows.Â
Ya know, alot of people here really do seem to discount Wal-Mart. It has been said it is the country's biggest retailer and that is true.Â
We must have a crapload of big city gamers who post here. Why is Wal-Mart so big?? Because they are EVERYWHERE.Â
For instance, I may prefer White Castle burgers to McDonalds, but guess what, there are 3 McDonalds in my town of 17,000 and the closest White Castle is an hour away.
In my particular town, Wal-mart is the biggest seller of game software because the nearest Bestbuy, Gamestop, EBgames etc is an hour away.
My HD TV came from Wal-Mart, not because I am a hillbilly, but because they are close and had the cheapet prices.
Therefore you guys who have lots of choices of where to shop can say one thing, but you add up all the small towns/cities across America and Wal-Mart makes a big impact.

Yeah there's a lot of elitist talk in the board especially from PS3 owners. This news is terrifying to them because it means their 600 investment is all but worthless. After losing gaming exclusives they come to find out their movie player is about to get blown out of the water as well. So the venom level goes through the roof. When Spiderman 3 comes out on HD-DVD you should see the end of cowdom as we know it. Most will take false names. Some will take their lives. Others will declare they were lemmings all along. It should be an event on par with the tearing down of the Berlin Wall. ;)
I don't know a single human with an HD-DVD player.DA_B0MB
The Chinese HD-DVD players will change that ;)Â

SNAP, I forgot to add one thing. Am I the only one who finds it funny that studios like Disney say they support Bluray yet have yet to produce a single Blu Ray Movie?????????? In reality is Disney sitting on the fence waiting for one to do well or has Disney actually put out a Blu Ray disc??? Maybe they have and I missed it?
If HD Dvd really takes off due to someone as walmart, the movie studios will follow. Especially if they have been sitting back waiting.
Right now I don't think many are buying stand alone players. The only reason Blu ray has been doing better is because several PS3 owners bought the sytem for that and the lack of game software for the system has meant a jump in movie media (PS3 owners need to justify the puchase somehow).
Just IMO
Blu-ray is a more advanced technology: 3 lasers (red, blue, infrared, each having their own functionality purpose). Blu-ray can be adapted depending on the power of the disk which will evolve with time. HD-DVD still uses the base ROM module and architechture of DVD, which has been phased out already... HD-DVD will own most of the market due to pricng, but because good movies are exclusive on both technologies, we're stuck getting both. So get a PlayStation 3 and an XBOX 360 and no more problems lol.iMacBot
honestly....Beta Max was a more advanced technology than VHS. not saying Blu-Ray is going to go that route, but rather to point out the obvious logical flaw in your argument. the "best" doesn't always win.Â
both formats hold a helluva lot of storage space...both formats do 1080p...both formats have important exclusives.
HD-DVD has the name advantage.Â
Blu-Ray has the support advantage.
Both advantages are subject to change. millions of HD-DVD players in homes forces the industry towards HD-DVD.
I don't know a single human with an HD-DVD player.DA_B0MB
then put me on your 360 friends list. I just got done watching Full Metal Jacket (HD-DVD). I'll be watching Smokin' Aces (HD-DVD) later tonight.
[QUOTE="peacebringer"][QUOTE="Bread_or_Decide"]hey guys Disney,Fox,Sony are not Supporting HD DVD. that means no Spiderman 3,Disney movies(wich cmon they sell themselves), or fox movies... um what does fox make? lol :)Somebody tell walmart that Disney, Fox, and Sony aren't supporting HD DVD. Thats alot of movies you can't get on HDDVD.

Â
Told them for you.Â
Thanks!!Â

you mean to say they're not supporting HD-DVD *right now*. If players start selling, those stances will change. those companies won't follow Blu-Ray into a bottomless pit; they'll go where the money is.
right now, there's no major reason for them to move or begin to support both...but as HD-DVD player sales increase, so will the pressure for them to support them.

BLUE LASER HD-DVD cores?!
This sounds suspiciously more like Blu-Ray. don't get me wrong, but a lot of people seem to be misinterpretting this news (which was originally translated from Chinese). it's like you think I had all these web links in front of me and I just selectively decided to post the HD-DVD ones. Quite honestly, that's disrespectful as hell.Â

wow this might be major selfownage for the TC, biggest since that other lemming said the barcode was for holding more data on dvds lol. why would they say "blue hddvd" instead of just saying hddvd, and why would they mention without cartridges the production would be easier now ? hddvd never had cartridges but bluray did ;). i highly doubt walmart bought a crapload of hddvd players cus bluray mmovies were outselling 9 to 2 and they cant get the hddvd 360 add on off the shelves so they cut the price of them almost in half. we shall see but this will be bumped for all eternity if it is bluray players...Jack-NapierThe TC is safe from ownage because they would have had to misquoted the price also, there is no way there will be a $299 Blu-Ray player out this year. The original article was about HD-DVD not Blu-Ray.
96% of all music cds are sold at walmart.....Only 2% of Walmarts sales are music CDs....If Walmart stop selling Music CDs well lets say the Music companies would not be happy....Just something to think aboutHarlockJChmm what does that have to do with movies ?
If it was talking about Blue-Ray and not HD-DVD dont you think Sony or at least someone from the Blue-Ray camp would have corrected this by now?. Face it PS3 users. You were forced into a blue-ray and now there is a chance Blue-ray might not win. Do not be mad at this thread or the TC or even Wal-Mart. You should be mad at Sony. MS does not look so dumb now since they give 360 owners a choice. No matter which drive wins 360 owners will be able to pop in a hard drive of the winner. i so love how fanboys contradict them selves on a daily basis. i love it how fanboys been saying their is a small percent of HDTV's owners and that HDTV's wont be selling well for next year or so. then all of sudden they are like Bam blu ray is going to be de throned by walmart and HD DVD. well fanboys since your logic states that hardly any one owns a HDTV, and are selling poorly. how and the hxx is cheap hd dvd players are going to de throne Blu ray?
There is a reason why i have not bought a hd dvd add on for my 360. that is because of ps3. ever since it hit hte market here in the US, the blu ray software sales have been giving a beat down on HD dvd software. no matter how you want ot spin it, blu ray is going ot keep out selling hd dvd software due to the ps3. and guess what , those movies companies that back up blu ray are going to continue making money, and blu ray format is going to continue out selling hd dvd on a monthly basis.
but like i said, i just love how fanboys contradict them selves on a daily basis.

it's not a contradiction. Here let me help you understand:
bluray's marketting advantage is 1080p... those tv are well over $1,000
hd dvd marketting advantage beside name branding and price is 720p. 720p sets are highly affordable and the reason for the upsurge in hdtv purchases.
congrats on your bluray movies sales, but at this stage the player sales are paramount.

Sony isn't the only company that touts 1080p as "trueHD". It's done by Samsung, Mitsubishi, and even Toshiba.  1080p HDTV's are getting cheaper all the time and are drastically cheaper then then were a year ago. They will only get cheaper. I love when people think that 1080p is somehow Sony's creation.
My Walmart had 360 things in display. I think they have a deal with Toshiba and MS.
They were promoting Zune more than iPods. Although Blu-Ray is endorsed by Best Buy. It is how companies deal.
[QUOTE="tango90101"][QUOTE="ramey70"][QUOTE="tango90101"][QUOTE="alfy13"]i so love how fanboys contradict them selves on a daily basis. i love it how fanboys been saying their is a small percent of HDTV's owners and that HDTV's wont be selling well for next year or so. then all of sudden they are like Bam blu ray is going to be de throned by walmart and HD DVD. well fanboys since your logic states that hardly any one owns a HDTV, and are selling poorly. how and the hxx is cheap hd dvd players are going to de throne Blu ray?

HD-DVD can do 1080p just as easily as Bluray. Bluray can do 720p just as easily as HD-DVD. Neither are advantages for either side.
re-read my post... i was speaking of marketting...
sony hyped bluray as "true hd" b/c of it's 1080p...
that is their angle... prob is; 1080p tv are priced outside of the masses..

Ken Kuturagi/Sony was THE one calling 1080p the only "true hd" while mocking the 360's 720p capabilities.
NO other company said that... just sony...
yes, 1080p sets are gtting cheaper and so are 720p sets...;)
