Can we finally admit the Wii U is last generation now?

Since my words don't hold weight, the specs of the PS4 obviously trumping those of the Wii U should be evidence of this. If these aren't proof enough, how about quotes from people in the industry?

Referring to the Wii U the CEO of EA had this to say -

"Ours is an industry where a lot of devices come in and represent themselves as the next generation, or the next generation after that. In many ways we would argue that the what were describing as gen 4 is yet to come. Its that that were excited about, and thats what were investing in. And frankly, weve been quite consistent with that for some time, while recognizing the frustration our inability to articulate precisely why causes for you"

Michael Pachter had this to say -

"The Wii U is a pretty ambitious undertaking," Pachter told Industry Gamers. "It's a new console, with new controls and architecture, but it's not quite 'next' generation."

Capcom had this to say -

" Although Nintendo will release the new game console Wii U and the market will be continue to be invigorated by the increase of DLC, time is required before the next generation console cycle begins in earnest"

Michel Ancel (Creator of Rayman and BG+E) had this to say -

Asked if the Wii U is a next-generation machine, Ancel replied: "Not really. I think Wii U is next-gen in terms of interface."

I honestly don't think I have to prove my point further. People were calling me a playstation fanboy and what not, but I was bringing a legitimate case to the table.

What's your point? Better visuals aren't going to make the games worse either, we could have easily stayed in the PS3 generation by this logic and never upgrade hardware. Also we will have limitations on what 3rd party games they Wii U might be getting and also limitations on what developers can do with the system compared to others.

It matters more for multiplatform games that will be released as true next gen games . That means WII U will always get the inferior version of the four platforms ( Playstation 4 / Xbox 720/PC/Wii U.    So unless all you care for is nintendo specific games, The WII U is a terrible purchase even if its considered next gen by nintendo standards.

Most games people play for playstation and xbox are multiplat titles, not exclusives..     So no matter what WII U is a terrible investment for next gen.

Minecraft is a more modern game than BF3 because it's more innovative. That's a legitimate stance. Hence your definiton completely falls apart.

The real reason why they are categorized in gens regardless of power is because those are the consoles that will be competing with each other.

The Wii U is obviously going to be weaker graphically than it's competition, but that has nothing to do with "generations."

WiiU battles current PS3 and Xbox 360 hardware specs. It comes no where near PS4 and Xbox 720 (We know MS will also pack a punch).

Yes WiiU at best is Current Gen. So don't you ever say its Next Gen because its not. Power proves its not.

Nintendo Land is more innovative and "modern" imo than Killzone 4 because of asymmetric gameplay which isn't possible to recreate on PS3.

Killzone 4 is a standard fare FPS that uses the same gameplay structure and dual analog controls since the PS2 days. 

In my world KZ4 would be a two generation old game and Nintendo Land a modern, current gen title.

So don't you ever say its Next Gen because its not.

What does innovation have to do with anything? This is only talking about technical specs, also we really can't be using the human definition of generations because they are set in stone unlike console generations.

For the people, saying WiiU is next Gen that's like saying the OUYA (Indie game console coming out in June) is next gen also.

So as you can see Next gen is determined by power. PS4 is leaps above PS3 and Xbox 360 (Hint, Hint Next Gen)

WiiU is about the same as PS3 aand Xbox 360 graphically maybe a tad better (Hint, Hint Current Gen)

At least the Wii brought in a new (retarded but whatever) way to play. All you get with the Wii U is a dumb tablet controller and last gen ports of 7 years old consoles and still not managing 1080p. 

I'll go with what the industry leaders and publishers/developers who make my games say.

If you want to focus purely on the hardware, well I can just use the controller argument. Wii U's gamepad is current gen and dualshock 4 is a rehashed controller from the 90s. PS4 is this old gen and Wii U modern.

Exactly and the people bringing up PC are making no sense, the 690GTX is out and yet game developers didn't consider it to be the next-generation. The next generation is determined by consoles, PC need not apply here.

Yes. Also in the SW 'Please Read' sticky thread it says that for SW purposes, the PC gens begin and end when the console's do.
