The only racist thing about Resident Evil 5, was Sheva's alternate outfit and ultimate weapon.. I see because she is black and African, she has to have a primitive bow an arrow.. As well as a tribal costume with face paint..

People are just too sensitive nowadays.

ActicEdge

Sadly, people tend to act more like that when it comes to black people, and like good old South Park once said, the true racists are the people who want to see racism over the one who didn't even notice.

Despite me really hating that is is true, is there not perhaps a "reason" for this?

If you´re refering to slavery, then I guess withe people have reason as well, because there were thousands of white slaves in the roman empire as well.

Some people in Africa still wear tribal clothing. There's nothing wrong with celebrating cultural aspects of Africa. I know know about RE5, but FFXIII's Vanille's outfit is desgined after a tribe in Africa. I think it's great to see things from the content glorified, rather than it being only associated with poverty, war, and AIDS.

That was pretty damn comical imo honestly. Clearly it was Capcom being stupid, I found amusing, Chris' DLC costume was awesome too, that rocker crap :P

100% complete honesty, if Capcom wants to celebrate African culture that was an absolutetly terrible way to do so. there are far better ways even though I think the outfit was pretty cool. There is way better african inspired clothing they could have used which wouuld have been way more positive. for reference I know this first hand because my heritage is 100% grounded in Africa and I own traditional african clothing (well its Ghana africa is the continent obviouslybut anyway)

Not exactly the same thing, I mean I'm not any sort of history major but when I think of seperating race I don't see "white" and "roman empire" as distinctively seperate. I also would not know for sure (enlighten me because I am curious) but slavery (American slavery) is a much more recent thing if I'm right and that has left some peopl bitter (regardless of whether or not its justified)

I was just talking about slavery in general, but I see your point. Although a long time has passed since those days(almost 150 years),you would expect that people would be over those things by now. That´s the way I see it anyway.

this is never even attempted to be elaborated upon.

People should be over it, its not an issue that I feel should be dwelled on. Especially in the context of RE5  but you know, there are always thos people who are sensitive to pretty much everything and they also happen to have big mouths. Unfortunate that no one will actually call out this crap (because you know none of these people actually played RE5) but that's the business world :(

Yes and some people in the US which Chris is from, are Amish and wear garb that was akin to 19th century attire.. And I would like to see what tribe thats from, because she was basically wearing a Jane custome from Tarzan with some face paint.. This was hardly a thing to celebrate African culture, furthermore that is a huge stereotype.. Africa is a continent, there are many different cultures..

basically your entire post is subjective.

you can't speak for others, and you can't accurately evaluate their mentality from what you've "heard".

so don't try to act as if you can see things from their perspective, because you know, you can't.

Its not something I actually found horrid in the context of playing the full game. It looks far worse when its singled out, but in a village in remote africa where somehow like 5 other races mixed into the population in equal portions it looked fine. stupid but fine.

Yeah, so before you like talk perhaps know who you are speaking to. My family heritage (all of my family heritage not this mixed idea) lies in Africa, I visit Africa, my family lives there I have the tradition clothing, eat the tradition food and lines of my family were sold into slavery and were held in slave castles. My homecountry has had its independence for just over 50 years. I think I'm qualified enough to know what and what I should not be bitter about. Wanna tell me your family tree?

People need to let it go because its not positive to be bitter over the past. To be bitter over freaking RE5, do you know how ridiculous that is?

yeah, but i'm just trying to state that the people calling the "l0l race card" claims are as ignorant (if not more) than those that label Capcom as racist.

obviously you aren't going to agree as you don't share a similar perspective, but that doesn't make your outlook on the subject matter any more superior.

Sure but as much as you wanna down play it its still not the same thing. It does not do any point justice to use a point elsewhere to justify why something is irrelevant. I am very aware that in the earlier times you were defined by regions (obviously we still do that) but the history behind that is from a much different time. 150 years ago is not a very long time, the line of thinking obviously would have evolved yet it still happened. While I'm not really up for a whole slavery debate, ancient civilization segregation is not the same thing as American slavery. And of course colour labeling is BS but sometimes its better to be sensiitive of peoples feelings than thinking tha old scars should just heal because its better now.

Your tone changed very quickly, I thought it would ;)

Obviously lol race is not a great answer but I would take lol race over racist anyday in a discussion of RE5. If you actually play RE5 itso clear that the dev team is not out to piss people off.

As for my outlook, its not superior to anyone's I never said it was, but I think I'm able to know that being bitter because Capcom like every other dev sucks at showing off a culture they aren't integrated in is silly is not a difficult. What do people get out of saying RE5 is racistbesides something as irrelevant as a video not made in America to vent over?

well duh, how many games star a black protagonist in Japan killing Japanese people? And how would that relate to history in any way?

All this sounds like your preferred "weapon set ups" and cosmetic outfits. Just you bringing up the fact that Sheva'soption to use a bow and arrow makes you racist. I had not problem using that layout and didn't think twice. Your being sensitive no?

Hah. Resident Evil 5 was like multicultural zombie party; clearly a true representation of its setting. Capcom, you have no guts, balls - however you want to put it.

On what? That while Chris gets his own STARS uniform, and a mini gun.. They thought it a great idea to give Sheva wearing skimpy tribal clothing and giving her a tribal bow and arrow.. I didn't think the game was racist at all EXCEPT that part, I mean they couldn't think of anything better or cooler to give her? Like Claire's jump suit, and a 21st century high tech bow and arrow? ..

All this sounds like your preferred "weapon set ups" and cosmetic outfits. Just you bringing up the fact that Sheva'soption to use a bow and arrow makes you racist. I had not problem using that layout and didn't think twice. Your being sensitive no?

And this is why this topic is not SW appropriate. You can't simply make a statemet like "your racist" when RE5 was specifically under fire for questionable content. You don't think people were watching when they were playing?

They should've just made RE5 about some black dude killing nothing but white people in some crappy little town instead.

Everyone knows that only white people can be rascist.

Oh and all white people are evil as well so a town full of white people = Resident Evil!

Edit: i'm sure everyone is aware of how a white guy killing nothing but black people (ok, black people infected with monsters) can be perceived as rascism but it's just that noone would bat an if the tables were turned...

Does Black Music Awards exist? Do you think I'd get away with my very own White Music awards?

I'm glad you have the hand book on "Comment's only appropriate for System Wars". Also did you even understand my reason for possibly claiming his comment AS RACIST? Yea RE5 was heavily under fire for it use of races but then again....what isnt?

I'm a 22 year old white male with many multi cultural friends. I was brought up to not judge by color. These are not of black problems, asian problems, or white problems here......

These are of PEOPLE PROBLEMS.

So if Sheva was white with a primitive bow and paint its ok?

Edited:

I apologize, I meant to say his comment came off racist in itself. I did not mean to call him DIRECTLY so.

Hah. Resident Evil 5 was like multicultural zombie party; clearly a true representation of its setting. Capcom, you have no guts, balls - however you want to put it.skrat_01
Um they released a game with visionary voice acting, and truly redefined gaming and ENTERTAINMENT when they released this game-LINK

Capcom released a game that was transcendent of any game and absolutely obliterated the best movies, television, and music had to offer in terms of pure artistic genius. You bite thy tongue heathen :|

"you are racist" is not an appropriate comment for SW and for the most part not appropriate in most situations. that you would use it in such a gross generalization is exactly why this shouldn't even be discussed here. You don't throw that around whether or not you are trying to make a point. RE5 was a unique case because it was the first big game to be under fie for race, that's what seperates it. Its SW not general discussion after all.

Great, you have told me of your background, mine is also in the thread (its irrelevant either way,I posted mine to shut up someone acting like I was not qualified to comment) its not important. Obviously you are to judge people by what they show you and not what they look but hey, completely irrelevant too. The fact is these people problems you state aren't simply people problems, you and most of this thread have clearly demonstrated that if this was any other race it wouldn't bea big deal. So what the hell exactly are you trying to say people problems? Its clearly not "people" its clearly "black" to which no one wants to say it.

If sheva was white and primitive she would have no relation to past history so no one is going to care. this is so obvious I don't see why I have to say it. Its not that how it is now is not fine, its that how it is now is bound to set people off because it reminds people of past history. Past NNEGATIVE history. that's the point everyone seems to be missing. RE5 is not racist but its not as simplified as everyone wants it to be.

Yes. She'd be interpreted as an independant and sexually confident woman (who just so happens to love showing off skin, which they always do it seems).

It's been ok, in the movie industry for ages and it's also ok in games as long as we remember that sluts are white.

Here's Lara in her field suit, obviously made for function over fashion. I mean who would'nt wear that in rough terrain? This game also sparked a techological revolution with Lara's ability to become dirty!

Good thing this little tart is white as well.

Well, this one speaks for itself.. Somebody should be sued!! Actually, someone probably did.

When you are reminded of a bad past, you could be happy that it isn't so anymore.
But those people still live in the past. There is no hope for them.

I was responding to the notion that inspiration from more "primitive" socities was somehow wrong. I disagree, although at the same time I don't doubt that Sheva's outfit was probably just a shameless attempt to show more skin.

Edit: Animal print bikini top? Ugh, ...

Let's complain about super street fighter 4 too

Look at how ugly dee jay and balrog are. Definitely not in the cool looking range as the japanese and white characters :P

They should have brought back sean even though he touted a basketball.

What? How are we going to forget the past when a lot of things from the past are still alive today?

It's not too easy to forget.

Hmm. We shouldn't forget it at all. At least not the important bits. If it is still alive today, then it's not really the past. Then we shouldn't worry about a game that reminds us of reality, we should worry about reality.
