"**** you, this game is set in Africa! What do you expect?" - Me if I was head of Capcom USA. :xSparkyProtocolTheir skin would peel off so they would be ... PINK!
[QUOTE="SparkyProtocol"]"**** you, this game is set in Africa! What do you expect?" - Me if I was head of Capcom USA. :xlocopathoThis just means less games set in Africa I'd say. Or more Far Cry 2/Resi 5 compromises with loads of white enemies too! But I want more games in Africa. :( I'm more disappointed in Capcom folding to the idiots. (unless the tribal part in the campaign was racist?)

Yeah same here, I really enjoyed the setting of Far Cry 2 if not the game. Hitting a Zebra in my jeep was fun :P

Removing africa from games seems the best choice.
If they were stereotypical white red necks and you were fighting a trailer park, then yeah I have a feeling someone might say something.Lionheart08
Redneck Rampage 1 & 2. Granted, they are comedic games well aware of their own stereotypes, but I still think noone would've cared if they were more serious games.
Now that I think of it, Crysis also lets you shoot Koreans with Hollywood accents. RE5 probably just got unlucky as this type of thing happens in a lot of games with exotic settings. But most of it just comes forth out of a limited knowledge of that culture rather than racist intentions, which I can fully imagine with a Japanese game set in Africa. I mean, you can even see from the way Europeans are depicted in Japanese (popular) culture that they often just don't know a great deal about what goes on beyond their borders.
All I can say is that I hope that Capcom will try portraying the culture of its games' locales more realistically instead of forcing itself to make certain locales multiracial when it's not at all realistic.

Oh yeah, I completely agree with that.
What got me worked up over the situation is the general opinion that nobody has the right of being the slightest offended over the imagery or that people are just being "sensitive." To me, that comes off as close-minded. :|
[QUOTE="Lionheart08"][QUOTE="ActicEdge"]
It changed AFTER people complained. To me Capcom shouldn't have listened, it looks stupid with mixed races. Go all out or don't bother. And white people don't care becausethey are literally 50 percent of the main characters in video games and the other 50 is Japanese lol. You can't get offended by it when it is basically every game and its programmed exactly by that majority. I hate the direction of this thread.

That and people are once again ignoring what exactly caused the outcry in the first place. If it was simply White guy killing Black people it wouldn't have been made a big deal It was black people be protrayed as mindless, savaged, stereotypical african tribes that caused the stir. I mean seriously, if you read the concept of RE5 out loud to someone chances are their eyebrows are going to be raised.
Ofcouse there mindless. THERE INFECTED ZOMBIE MONSTER THING AMIJIGAS. And yes there were some fictional tribe lvs however I dont remember raccon city being really either.Yeah, and to people who play the games, it'd be natural for them to understand. Too people who don't know about the series, the imagery comes off offensive. It's not exactly rocket science and it's pretty close-minded to say people are just sensitive when something offends them.

Pretty much everything is offensive to someone tho.[QUOTE="ShishcabobShig"]
I dont get what the problem was there whhere nothin but Spaniards in resi 4 and they didnt complain about it. As soon as its a bunch of black people the whole world gets the racist card pulled. Its stupid get over it it was based in Africa an you mainly see black people there get over it. I bought the game to have fun idc what color the person is i just wanna shoot some s*** lol.
SupraGT
It's simple because Spaniards are closer to being white obviously.
sorry it made me chuckle a bit XD .I agree but it was kinda funny.oh.im half spaniard myself-the other half is secret.I agree with the position Captain. When you travel a lot, you notice theres a slint of racism in many places, US as well*depending on area*. It might be elegantly subtle but is there.[QUOTE="Lionheart08"][QUOTE="EdenProxy"] Ofcouse there mindless. THERE INFECTED ZOMBIE MONSTER THING AMIJIGAS. Pretty much everything is offensive to someone tho.True enough. And yeah, I'm not going to deny the outcry got out of hand, but I find the claims in this thread that people are "Just sensitive" equally as close minded as people who simply wrote the game off as racist.
One thing I did find racist was the alternate costume of the sidekick. Seriously? A tribal bikini?
I've seen a lot of racism coming out of Japan over the years, they are not really a racially sensitive nation, much of it is aimed at the west too.

yeah Japan def isnt a racially sensitive nation while America is well is the capital of the world for racism i guess. I know many people wouldnt understand but things like RE5 do hit people hard especially in America where racism is very much still rampant. Me im black and all of my back friends have all had to deal with this crap and it does exists in all aspects of life. This particular instance is about how we are portrayed in the media. Its very rare you have positive black leads in anything especially video games. How many Black nathan drake's are there or how many black versions of Marcus fenix are there? next to none if you ask me. Only prominent black lead think of is GTA's CJ and that's a shame if you ask me.
Now i personally enjoyed RE5 but i think what really makes people mad is that fact that they would probably never make a game with a black lead in a European nation shooting zombies. Were supposed to be equals but at many times in my life it just hasn't felt liken it. Ive seen terrible things done before and i can see how this could have offended people. I think its a good thing that capcom is trying to be more aware of the worlds situation.

You are deluded if you think the U.S.A is the most racist country in the world. Seriously, I don't mean to be rude, and it was once so unacceptable as to be something worth rioting over at one point but today, your country is not so bad compared to many across the globe.
I can absolutely see a game designer putting a black lead in a game shooting white people. You will find examples of racist games but you'll also find games like crackdown, where the default character was black. Most of the games in the west are moving towards allowing you full customisation of your character so race isn't as much an issue but you've cited Carl Johnson and I have to say that is one of the biggest franchises in the gaming world and the two previous characters have been a poor russian and a black gangster. Hardly the stereotype of all american goodness there used to be.
Yes, if Africa was infected with a zombie virus, the resulting zombies would be... wait for it... AFRICAN.
Good Lord. People are either too stupid or too sensitive, or both.
