Yes, great game. Glad to hear their success with the title. I hope a Witcher 3 comes soon.
Granted, though CD Projekt is private, right? They do not necessarily have to disclose that information.

I think they are privately owned and operated, though i'm not 100%. It's good to see them releasing this information, as it does a lot of advertising in and of itself.
Great now put that money into The Witcher 3 or They with built from the ground up DX11 graphics!!! Imagine tessellation on them sex scenes :P
That's pretty damn impressive. The Witcher has been a great series for them, and with little advertising has raked in a large amount of sales.
lundy86_4
That's the thing.
Not a single TV commercial and the overall marketing budget of essentially an indie title on a console and they sold 1 million copies in a month.
I'm very suprised by the low number of digital sales. I know the digital sales span is shorter, but still, only 20%?
Still, pretty good for ahardcore RPG.
The game it gets to compared most on the consoles is Demon Souls which only sold half that amount in a MUCH longer time scale. Hopefulyl nothign a TV commecrial can't take care of. Go CDProject!
No - since the end of previous year they are on Warsaw Stock Exchange and must publish info.Yes, great game. Glad to hear their success with the title. I hope a Witcher 3 comes soon.

absolutely pathetic sales for a game hyped so much, hopefully 360 version will make up for PC failure.

*360 version comes out*
Cd Projekt: Due to the lack of money being gained back for X360 development and marketing we had to cut people off and stick with being PC only so we can stay stable.
PC Gamers: Hahahha eat it 360 fanboys :D

Fantastic sales, considering the game had noto very little marketing. You should understand a market more before commenting. The hype here and in general gaming circles is not indicative of a buying trend within the general public

Troll much?
Demon Souls, a comparable hardcore RPG only sold 1/2 that.
It's an M rated, hardcore RPG from an indie dev with a near 0 marketing budget, man. What do you expect, 8 million sales? The hype it got here, in a forum baord full of hardcore gamers is NOT the hype it got out in the general market. And yet it still sold a million in a bout a month. That's how awesome Pc gmaing is.
Even on the xbox 360 it's not going to sell like COD. Only a handful of games, as in you can count them on your fingers, ever sell more than a million units on the xbox 360. AND they involve hudred million dollar marketing campaigns.
You really are ignorant of the business as a whole, aren't you?
Typical.

Also... Lol.
I was meant to ammend this to my last post, but I boo boo'd :(
The Witcher 1 sold since premiere in october 2007 about 1,9 mln copies (only on one platform - PC) - first game about unknown hero (in West Europe and USA) from unknown studio from Poland. The Witcher 2 sold half of this in about 1,5 month (only on PC too)... I name it pretty good success.absolutely pathetic sales for a game hyped so much, hopefully 360 version will make up for PC failure.

Really now? Then do show me the console games that sold 1M copies in less than two months with the level of TW2 advertising campaign.
A failure is a game like Alan Wake that had much bigger advertisement and with a ton of hype and TW2 practically sold almost as much as it in less than two months.
PS: Alsio,by now I´m pretty sure TW2 has most likely already outsold it.

Oh snap! Arach just made that **** sting lol.
:P Wich is sad, because AW is a good game and deserved to sell a lot better than what it did.[QUOTE="Harisemo"]

Ouch man! Instead of a torch you brought a flame thrower to this troll roast.
But yeah, quoted for truth, although I do agree with the sentiment that AW was a game that deserved more sales.
Question: Do console gamers really think all console games sell 8 million copies or somethings? Or is it just this particualr troll showing his ignorance?

"Aww..look at all those jaggies. Wait...THOSE ARENT JAGGIES--..."
good sales for a pc game.
Cranler
Good sales for a game on any system. Outliers are hardly any indication of how the vast majority of games will sell (i.e. Gears/Halo/GT5 etc). This was in 1.5-3 months. That's damn impressive.

The sales are neither impressive nor bad. They're basically pretty good. I'm not going to go in and rationalize the sales by talking about how low the advertising budget is; the numbers speak for themselves, and they're pretty much "good, not amazing".
I'm glad CD Projekt is going multiplatform. Not because I expect the 360 sales numbers to be any higher (I don't), but because as many people as possible should be playing their great games. I hope their sales numbers keep going up in the future.
As soon as I have a PC that can run the thing I'll buy it. For now i've bought the first game Platinum edition for $7 , new and sealed. Come on !! That's nothing . I'm having a blast with the game. It's the best thing I've played this year so far since Mass Effect 2 on my PS3.

I think it's the lack of advertising budget that advances the sales from "good" to "amazing". There are a number of ways to impact a games sales, and let's be honest, a massive advertising budget definitely helps (e.g. Battlefield/Call of Duty/ Gears of War etc).
I agree with your second point, CD Projekt Red has really proven themselves this gen.
Impressive...although I would have expected more from one of the most hyped pc exclusives in recent years! Just goes to show you how few pc exclusives nowadays break a million (although of course a million is not necessary for a game to be deemed successful..no where near)dom2000
Hype on a few internet forums or gaming specific sites isn't indicative of what will be a sales giant. We amount to a minimal part of the gaming market.
Not bad for a game, especially considering the fact that this is one of those games that did not have a lot of marketing as well as the fact that the game is one of those that will still sell, even years after its original launch (if the original Witcher is anything to go by).

well it was a big deal and the biggest pc exclusive of the year afaik. killzone 3 sold twice as fast.[QUOTE="dom2000"]Impressive...although I would have expected more from one of the most hyped pc exclusives in recent years! True however I think I would be right in saying, on pc, hype on gaming specific sites as well as youtube videos can actually have a massive impact on sales...much more so than on consoles. Look at minecraft and amnesia!Websites, especially youtube, had a massive part to play in the success of those 2 games. And how many pc games have substantial marketing? Very very few! The only real pc exclusive "sales giants" with big marketing budgets would be blizzard games[QUOTE="KungfuKitten"]
And DRM free...
lundy86_4
Which says a lot. Especially for the "PC is dying" naysayers.
Well DRM is pointless anyway, its at best a minor delay for the pirates! Witcher 2 was very heavily pirated though...i remember being awed by number of people pirating it when it first releasedwell it was a big deal and the biggest pc exclusive of the year afaik. killzone 3 sold twice as fast.

KIllzone 3 is still not even over 2M(1.7 I think and its the flagship FPS of the PS3,much more was expected with that kind of advertising, advertising TW2 did not have) though, and at some point Shogun 2 was outselling it,we had a thread about it a couple of months ago as well.
Besides, the first Witcher sold about 2M copies, this one will sell a lot more.
Also,FM 2011 is most likely already over 1M,like all other entries of the franchise do. It´s odd to see that two of the three best selling Sega franchises are PC only games.
