http://www.onpause.org/2011/01/ces-2010-sony-reveals-gt5-sold-55.html

At tonight's Sony Key Note to start of the 2010 Consumer Electronics Expo, the companies' gaming guru Kaz Hirai took the stage and revealed that Gran Turismo 5 has sold 5.5 Million units worldwide since launch.

Well, there you have it folks. Let the fanboy wars begin. It would appear that Gran Turismo, in fact, is STILL relevant.

Did you buy the game? Tell us what you think about the GT franchise and its future.

I have the game. It could be better but I enjoyed it. 8.0/10 IMO. Then again I'm not a sim fan, before playing GT I didn't even know that the brake button existed in race games :P

To be fair, 6mil wouldve bought it even if it scored a 6. GT name is very strong.

I had no doubts about that anyway, I always thought the people who said GT isn't that relevant anymore, & that shooters were now the only really big seller were pretty silly.

Yeah, I bought one of those copies. Keep an eye on your local Gamestop's shelves for a deluge of preowned GT5 copies from disappointed purchasers.

Its amazing how such a disappointing racer can sell that many copies on name alone. Just goes to show that sales have nothing to do with how good a game is.

But that "name" was built on quality, the GT series has always been known for being awesome. And it's not as if GT5 sucks. 8.0+ games dont suck.

It may have dissapointed, but it's still one of the best racing games on the PS3. IMO Hot Pursuit gets very boring and shallow.

There are alot of downfalls to GT5. Forza 3 is a much better racing game and the graphics are far better as well. After spending hours upon hours playing Forza, its hard to even play GT5.

They can make a few key standard cars into premium (Formula GT), but considering manpower constraints, how many are they really going to be able to convert? On top of that, there's the question of whether Poly can really sink enough time into it to catch up to Forza feature-wise before Sony expects them to start working on GT6. The lack of mechanical damage in A-spec is laughable, and even basic stuff like per-track saved tunings for cars are nowhere to be found.

Don't get me wrong, it's still a fun game, but I'm massively disappointed - there are flaws in this game that I wouldn't forgive in any racing sim, regardless of development time. If my Logitech steering wheels worked properly with Forza I'd dump GT without a second thought.

I think GT5 gets picked apart because it was so hyped and the franchise has been so successful. Not to say it doesnt deserve some fair criticism, but people act like the game is unplayable. It didnt do as well as the franchise has done in the past, but the game's reviews certainly werent terrible.

Well GT5 as a game is inferior to F3 but the support of Logitech driving wheels on GT5 make it a better game than F3 at least for me the only thing I' disappointed about in GT5 is the standard cars and the stupid damage system which I still don't know how it works though I'm about to hit Level 30.

Thats one thing i love about GT5 is the logitech wheel support. I have a play seat and the G27 wheel. I think im level 28 on both A-spec and B-spec. The damage is at lvl 30 or 40?

Bought it yesterday, so my copy isn't counted in that I imagine. All in all, a great game with a ton of depth, and the handling seems improved over Prologue, which is good.

I'd say a 9/10. If they fix the few small issues it has, it'll go to a 9.5-10 easy.

I agree. I bought it and a GT Force wheel to fully experience it. I love everything about the game except: User interface blows at times. I created a driver for B-spec and turned him to online. And went to race and it said I didn't have a spec driver. 30 mins wasted trying to understand why. Had to google it, only to find out when I set him online so friends could see him made it so I couldn't use him. LAME!!!!! You can't edit your cars tuning in your garage. So say I have street tires and I want to race on a dirt or snow? Well if I try to click on the race I can't enter. BUT HOW Do I switch tires now????? But once you get racing it's a blast.

I only buy games for the menu's and gt5 clearly isn't the best menu simulator, how dare the Japanese not design their menu's for westerners. Now they are claiming people bought 5 million copies?

I know your being sarcastic, but GT5's menu's transition and alerts suck. How come all it told me was as I didn't have a driver for b-spec. A little extra programming would be nice to say. "you have all available drivers set to online, please set to offline in order to race in b-spec. Boom done. Something tells me thy had a small bug testing group. But this isn't a bug. It's a flaw.

The set to online feature for drivers and cars isn't very well thought out at all and it's certainly poorly explained (if it all). I had to google it to find out what it did then decided it wasn't anything I'd like to use, not a gamebreaker though.

You can choose tires in the same menu as the driving aids one in the pre-race interface. It's called driving options or something. The big grip I have is how there is about a second of lag between everything you do in the menu. Tuning your car is much more of a chore than it should be.

Seeing how GT5 is the best in the franchise by far, I'd say that it just shows how the series was overrated back when there was no competition.
