This Bastard wants to take away your precious paper manuals too....

"On Monday, Ubisoft announced that they will be removing paper manuals from their PC, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 game packages starting this holiday season. Instead, the manual will be handled digitally in-game.

One popular game designer has already shown support for the move by Ubisoft. In a recent message onhis personal Twitter, Epic Games' Cliff Bleszinski stated that he "fully support losing paper manuals."

Epic Games next internally-developed title will be Gears of War 3. It should be interesting to see if the high-anticipated sequel will come with a paper manual packed in the DVD case."

Some of these people trip me out.

1. You already kill us on the price of a game, $60.

2. You bring out games half done with content locked on it until you buy a key to unlock it and say it's new.

3. You bring out garbage collectors editions almost all the time.

4. Now you wanna take away the most reliable part of the game, A Physical Manual.

I tell you what, just make games that's all! Stop trying to give us less and less and charge us more and more it's getting pretty ridiculous by now.

Never really cared for manuals. Why read about how the game plays when I can play the game firsthand?

I welcome this. A digital manual could be a lot more useful that a paper one. Paper manuals are pretty crappy these days anyways. Any basic questions I might have are explained in the in-game tutorial that practically every game has and any advanced questions I have aren't answered in the manual. [QUOTE="Blazerdt47"]

You seem awfully butt hurt over a dev saying he agrees with what another dev is doing.

No, I just don't like him. :)

I don't undertand why people are so upset about this. Saves paper and its not like its a downgrade, all the information is just presented in a different and honestly, more efficent way.

They probably would, but I think the issue here is trying to not increase the price while lowing production/development costs. It's probably the reason people run to DD services on PC since there's alot less costs to distribute their game. All of this is just a product or rising dev costs, I hope this gen lasts pretty long because if the PS3/360 get even more expensive to develop for, prepare for a rise in game prices and even more cut costing methods.

Honestly people. Very very few of us even use the manuals at all anymore, and if they add a deeper ingame tutorial for those who want and the option to turn it off for the others along with the fact that you can look up almost anything game related on the internetzzt it makes the manual a waste of time, space and tree's. I say: Yay to proposition nr 43 the removal of game manuals

They haven't taken anything from you when future games simply won't have game manuals in physical form. I don't know where it says a game must have a game manual or that it is required to be a physical manual.

I have no problem with this. Other than the occasional RPG, I don't really remember the last time I had to look at a manual for anything other than a CD-key.

I support digital manuals

When you weigh in the positives and negatives the digital copy just makes so much more sense. Not to mention, that manuals in general hardly provides any information outside the realm of basic controls and setup.

Valve hasn't been including physical manuals in their PC games since 2004. What's the fuss about? It's a great idea, less paper and other materials are wasted on printing knowledge that hardly deviates from the normal. It's the same stuff over and over again, generic controls which are again re-iterated in the actual game. Get with the times.

Not going to happen. However, if they're taking the PDF-ish route, they better make GREAT MANUALS. As in, something some of us would be tempted to print and bind.

Trees make oxygen. People need oxygen or they suffocate. Manuals are made from trees. Thus people who put murdered trees in their game packaging choke people to death.

Gah Its a given that a video game comes with a manual, next you'll say games shouldn't have to come in boxes. Its tradition and some manuals are actually great little reads. I don't want Ubi to get this ball rolling with anyone other publisher. It is also a way to get gamers to shell out for an official game guide.

To all those who want the price of games to be lowered because of the removal of manuals, how much of a price drop do you think this actually warrants? $1, $2? Honestly, would seeing $57.99 make you that much happier?

No one is making you buy their games. If you don't support their business then don't be apart of it. No one is making you buy Gears of War.

Also, getting rid of manuals is better for the enviorment. It seems to me that this is a step forward in the future of what gaming will be, Digital Distribution.

There is one problem with digital manuals: So far (at least on the PSP Go), you can't look at it while playing the game. I'm sure the Xbox/PS3 will patch an option in-game to look at it, but so far when it comes to game manuals, some games on the Go simply don't even have them. I can foresee this being a problem with future console games.

Gamers still like owning solid copies, for example I'm not a collector but I love owning my games.
