It's a well written post for sure and you are right about the PS3 catching up with the 360 because it's true it has not been selling that well and after the Halo 3 surges and the holiday season this year the PS3 will make up a lot of ground on the 360. But a lot of your post is just speculation on just how well it will do in the future. To suggest having the best console graphics, which it will btw, will be the main reason one will purchase it is a bit of a leap I think. If consumers are driven mainly by the best graphics then they will just get a top notch gaming pc that will blow the doors off of the PS3. Basically it says that xbox sales are for units shipped, not sold, while ps3 sales are for actualy sales. Basically, when you take away the spin of Microsoft's PR, the reality is that the PS3 is actually outselling the xbox 360. Furthermore, the xbox 360 has consistently failed to meet shipment targets.

At least according to this blog post.

Note however that even with just sales, the xbox will have more than twice as many console in homes as the Ps3 does. That means a strong incentive for developers to spend more time with the xobx than the PS3.

And a wrong one. All three release shipped estimates. Remember kids, to a console maker, "sold" is "sold to retailer". They have no real way to gauge stock levels or sales throughput of all their points of sale.

Not to mention, none of the three "provide" data to NPD or VGChartz. NPD polls sales across retailers, giving a rather good estimate of sales, and VGChartz pretty much pulls them out of their... there, and adjusts to what NPD says.

Just a note, I believe at TGS they actually stated they were over 5 million sold. I think the numbers are approximately even for hte consoles.

Of course, the xbox STILL has had that extra year to sell twice as many consoles, which means that it is a bigger market for games and devs will spend more time making games for it.

I have to disagree with this part. The author of the article makes it seem like there has been no good games on the 360 for the year and a half before Halo 3 and that is the main reason why it hasn't sold very well. This is completely false and if the good games for the 360 hasn't propelled it past the Wii then it's not going to happen.

Also, the author is making too much of the 5 percent drop in sales for the Wii. This comes two months after the Wii sales jumped from 250k to 400k consoles sold. In fact, if you compare the sales of the Wii to the 360 from last month, the Wii sold about one and half times more. Furthermore, he states that software spurs hardware sales, but he neglects to look at the Wii software coming up ni the next few months and there are some quality titles there.

ps3 has yet to get any of it's big titles. ps3 cost more then 360 twice its price in europe. 360 has been on the market for two christmas ps3 one. so yeah those numbers are a bit pathetic considering the following.

And yes, Halo 3 is a good game. The 360 is a good system. But I truly believe that the PS3 is the console of the future. The 360 had crap games for the first year of it's existence. People dubbed it Xbox 1.5...remember? But then Gears of War hit, and that is when the 360 truly became a next-gen console. I'm sure Sony will experience a similar console cycle.

Xbox360 didnt have crap titles first year- PGR3,COD2, PDZ, Condemned, Oblivion, GRAW, DOA4 & Kameo. & since most of those games were at launch all-in-all thats actually a very good lineup of games. so dont talk rubbish.

FFXIII will sell a lot once it comes out because it's an exclusive and demanding franchise. this is something that a lot of veterans and new comers will end up buying. next year 08 will be a big year for the ps3. Drakes Fortune and UTIII / haze coming out November of this year. nothing to complain about. Hopefully FFXIII comes out in 08 along with no delays of KZ2, Home, LittleBig Planet,and MGS4. On top of that there'll be some morenew exclusive IP's and multiplats.All these great games coming out in the same year will make the ps3 look very appealing. History may even repeat itself. Funny stuff. Nintendo, MS and Sony all go by shipped numbers. The problem with Sony's number though is the fact they count made consoles as shipped consoles, while Nintendo and MS go by sold to retail, meaning they are in transaction from warehouses to the retailer or they are already at the store. Sony's numbers are pretty screwy because of this.

Oh and sold to retail is the best, most accurate numbers you can get which is why MS and Nintendo use them in their quarter and yearly reports. If retail is buying your item, then it must be selling. Retail doesn't buy what it doesn't need or sell and that is just a fact. Whether the fanboys want to spin that truth, then so be it.

By the way, those shipped to retail numbers are 3 months old. The 11.6 million for the 360 was announced back in July for end of June. By now the 360 has probably shipped over 13 million, meaning it has at least sold between 11 and 12 million units to customers.Also go bring up first year NPD numbers for the 360 and compare them to the PS3 first year.It isn't even close. Hell I believe the 360 didn't drop below 200K for any month during its first year, while the PS3 dropped below 100K a few times and can't even get up to 200K per month.PS3 selling faster than the 360 my butt.
