At the end of they day you've got to buy the system that A) has the games you want to play and B) your friends have so you can play with them and trade/share games.
Brand loyalty is madness. Microsoft and Sony are not your friends or family. You don't have to defend them or help them. Sony fanboys have been buying a system with no games for a year now - that is loyalty to the extreme. Some will see it as an investment but there is no evidence yet that any system selling software/games are coming out yet.
WHY DO YOU CARE IF YOUR CONSOLE SOLD MORE THAN ITS RIVAL. As long as it has been profitable enough to keep going and not do a dreamcast it doesn't matter if PS3 sells half the amount of the 360 or double. The PS3 dieing is what I don't agree with. Sony have a track record of bringing out formats that cost lots and then just died like Betamax, MiniDisc, UMD - I thought blu-ray was going to be next but it looks like it's here to stay. I hope for the sake of the fan boys the PS3 survives too - which it should - but for it to do better than it's rivals will take either a massive price drop or some amazing games or both at the way things stand it is the inferior system.
If your on the fence the only safe bet is a PC as you know that pretty much all the top titles are going to be on that platform and you have near full backwards compatibility.
While xbox360 and PS3 attack eachother Wii will keep getting the most sales and PC will continue to have the most gamers.
