3DS has been out for a year, the best games of note are;

Resident Evil Revalations

Mario Kart 7

Super Mario 3D Land

Star Fox 64 3D

Nano Assualt

Street Fighter

Dead or Alive

Metal Gear Solid Snake Eater

TLoZ: Ocarina

Tekken 3D

and some nice E-Store games like Sakura Samurai, Pushmo, Zen Pinball

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now Vita with its day 1 launch games:

Wipeout 2048

Lumines Electric Symphony

Rayman origins

Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom

Uncharted: Golden Abyss

Blaze Blue Continum Shift

Virtua Tennis 4

Hot Shots Golf

Fifa Soccer

Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus

and some fine PS Store content like Mutant Blobs from Space, Escape plan and Super Star Dust Delta.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So please tell me how the 3DS game library, which has had a year to develop, crushes the Vita day one LAUNCH line-up ?

I don't see why that's crappy. I really feel like Rayman feels more "right" on a handheld than a console. So I'd encourage 3DS owners to check the game out when it arrives for their system, if they lack a Vita. (whereas RE Revelations feels so wrong on a handheld, at least one that needs a sold separately attachment to work well)

By that logic... Star Fox 64 3D, and LoZ: OOT 3D are just "ports" and do not count. Mario 3D Land is an "inferior console game" and doesn't count. (which it isn't of course, it was my GOTY 2011) Tales of the Abyss doesn't count, because it's also "just a port", by your logic, as opposed to the best version of a stellar JRPG. I don't think I like your logic. If I applied it, I wouldn't have any 3DS games at all.

Why are you including games like Uncharted, hots shots golf and Wipeout in the Vita list but not including games like Nintendogs + Cats, Ridge Racer, Tales of the Abyss and Shinobi on the 3DS list?

SMT Devil Survivor Overclocked, Nano Assualt and Ace Combat all deserve a mention on any 3DS game list, despite gamespot not reviewing them.

There is no question that the 3DS has a greater library. It has been out for almost a year, afterall. Who would expect anything less?

I didn't even know 3DS had an Ace Combat game. O_o The game shelves for 3DS at most retailers is... lacking. I haven't seen a copy of DOA: Dimensions or devil Survivor Overclocked in months.

Are'nt Lumines and UC:GA both exclusives? I had a 3DS at launch and the only 2 games that intrigued me were SSF4 and Pilotwings. SSF4 soon became obscelete because of arcade edition though sadly :(

Anyway, yea the Vita lineup is pretty sick. This is the first time I bought more than 2 titles for a launch...I think EVER? Overall the 3DS has a better lineup RIGHT NOW as it stands but they also have had a year to get those. Once E3 rolls around I am sure we will see a bunch of Vita titles announced and everyone will be skippity about it.

Platformer is a platformer, they were originally console games before the PS1 and N64 came out and shiit that up. Handhelds are best when they are offering games to balance console experiences, not just being consoles themselves especially a game like rayman where the multiplayer is easier to put together on a console.

I agree with Randolph that Rayman would be better on handheld. It suits the demographics much more, and doesn't feel as simplistic as it would on consoles. Online would be no problem for MP

Because I would take 3DL over all PSV games combined.

Don't really care for a 10 hour b-team uncharted, that in addition is identical in game design to all previous UC games. I haven't even played UC3 yet!

I have tried Wipeout on PS3, couldn't get past the awful controls.

I don't play fighters or sports games.

There, I told you.

Yeah, that's what comes of a good launch lineup vs. a middling one. It took the 3DS a while to get to that point, whereas the Vita got a head start.

No guarantee that the Vita will have a steady stream of good games to build on its launch, so I would wait another year before making any proclamations.

Vita is the definition of reprehensible corporate garbage, any title I can play on the Vita is found similarly on consoles. Same problem the Playstation PORTable POS had, too many ports and remakes.

The Vita's launch line-up sh*tstomps the 3DS's. But the year headstart argument isn't going to work any better for the Vita than it did the PS3.

It will need to continue to get high quality titles.

As for the silly "ports" and "console games" argument, these are some of GS's highest rated retail 3DS games:

  • Resident Evil: Revelations
  • Super Street Fighter IV 3D
  • The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D
  • Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D
  • Mario Kart 7
  • Super Mario 3DLand
  • Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars

...

Yeah. Sorry, but that's a stupid argument.

They're handheld consoles. That's the point.

I actually think the Vita has one of the best launch lineups I have seen in awhile outside of the Dreamcast. I couldn't stand the 360 and PS3 launch lineup and the 3DS launch was pretty weak.

As others stated Uncharted is exclusive and while it isn't as good as Uncharted 2/3, I think I like it better than the first one. The fact that it is running a game like Uncharted with comparable graphics to Drakes Fortune (which Cows used for awhile to try to counter Crysis) on a portable AT LAUNCH..is impressive.

The Vita is superceding my expectations of a handheld and if it can sell well, I think the possibilities are great and it has the hardware to be viable for the entire generation it is around. Outside of a weak battery life and no memory included; it is one sexy piece of technology with good games to boot on day 1.

The 3DS though now has some amazing games. And per your title, I would give the edge to the 3DS given it's head start. However IF the Vita sells well, I see the games being much better on Vita. The pica200 can only do so much.

Always gonna disagree here, console games are games designed with consoles in mind. Some console games translate well to handhelds like Zelda and Street fighter, some honestly just don't though. RE:R was designed to be a handheld game and uses that style with the episodic style layout. Nothing wrong with wanting console games on a handheld but its not why I persnally get them and that;s why the Vita (even 3DS to some extent) aren't very appealing to me.

Handheld games are designed within the confines of a handheld's limitations, true.

The limitations of a handheld in the past, however, in no way reflect the limitations of a handheld today.

IMO:

The only thing that makes it a handheld game is that it's on a handheld.

The only thing that makes it a good handheld game is that it's a good game.

TC forgot Tales of the Abyss. Despite being a PS2 game it's really awesome on the 3DS.

Comparing is just ridiculous because it all comes down to personal preference. Scores and popular opinion mean nothing on an individual level.

Then it should be a good game by console standards.

All things considered, a (however slightly) downgraded version of the same exact game you can play on a console is not good.

You haven't played 3D Land if you think it's a home console experience.

It's a proper 3D handheld Mario and imo the best portable video game ever. You can see this in game design and level design. 3DL has very short levels that focus on pure platforming and are small in scope, while Galaxy is more big scale with lots of exploration elements (experimenting with gravity effects, secret areas, more open areas).

For example the comet coins are usually hidden in Galaxy 2 and are more about finding them whereas the ones in 3DL are easy to spot but harder to get.

They're very different games.

All things considered, a (however slightly) downgraded version of the same exact game you can play on a console is not good.

But they meet different needs, unless I can play ps3 anywhere there is no need to compare them

Not everyone cares about portability. I for one have no interest in taking handhelds outside the house on a regular basis. I have my iPod for that. If all handhelds can do is approximate consoles in a portable form, their place in the market is going to disappear very soon.

On the flipside, God of War PSP, Uncharted Vita, Resistance, they have identical approach to game design. Not just handheld/console, all three console UC's and such play out identically.

While Revelations is arguably a home console experience, it still has a different direction in gameplay than its console counterparts, it's a mix between action and survival horror vs cinematic action in RE4/5/6.

That's the key difference. Different directions is just as important as portable-friendly, which Revelations is too, due to how the game is segmented to allow for short bursts play.

When it comes to sports games, fighters, kart games, that will always be the case. I mean a fighter is a fighter.

But what is important is to differentiate Mario Kart 7 from Mario Kart U. For example the kites should be MK7 exclusive, and MKU should have bikes or something new.

Sony fails at doing this. Not just handheld/console as I said, but also on the console iterations, they are all pretty much identical to each other :/ That's why I haven't turned on my PS3 for over a year.

Which Resistance? The PSP one plays very differently, and it's a little hard to judge Resistance Vita when virtually nothing about it is known.

Just trying to paint a general picture don't get hung up on details.

Resistance 1 2 3

Killzone 1 2 3

I haven't played Resistance PSP for myself admittedly. How is it unique?

Lol, please stop trying to make it sound as if resident evil rev, is anything more than a console game with shorter levels and more checkpoints. Capcom's approach was the same as sony bends with uncharted vita.
