Confirmed: Xbox360 is a shooter console

I'm on my lunch break so I'm eating, but no lemming has proving me wrong. You all in denial and acting like 360 is the "holy grail" of diversity. You all want to argue on a topic instead of the issue. "Mass Effect is an RPG". Did you really think I didn't know that? Seriously? "Those are not my top 3 games". That's find but I didn't mean 100% of the 360 fans. I meant Majority. Nitpick my arguement you like, but you all knew I meant that. "By you logic, MGS4 is a shooter too". Yes, I'll admit MGS4 is a shooter. That's not the point of the thread. It was to show the diversity of interest in the games PS3 fans looking forward to compared to the 360. Again all these are topics and not the issue. The issue is 360 is main focus are shooters, and not equally giving othere genres the lime light. Most 360 fans admit that 360 has alot of shooter, and then goes off on a rant. Those fans are proving my point. The reason there are so many shooters is because it's a popular genre.  The publishers know that they stand to make a pretty penny off of a shooter if it's good so there is little risk involved.  With the amount of money thrown at games, it's almost impossible to get anything out of the door if it isn't in a proven genre.  One of my favorite games of last year was Shadows of the Colosus, and that game was NOT the talk of the town, mainly people I worked with were playing it at work during lunch.  That's the only way I ever saw it.  But that game won't appeal to the mass audience because it just isn't for everyone. 

Now as a 360 owner, I am eagerly awaiting a chance to play Halo 3, I've never even heard of bioshock, and Mass effect is getting picked up on day one.  Mass Effect is the kind of RPG I've been waiting for where I have total control over my combat.  Yes, it's an RPG, the only difference between this and FF is that its in real time and there are guns in place of swords, both have magic.  What game god decidedd that all rpg's should be played with swords, elves and he/she's?  Fable may have been waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay ytoo short, but what i t did get right was " combat" and "magic customization).  I could creat a character over time that fought exactly how I would fight with the magic that was available.  I can't wait to play the sequal. 

My last point is: what's wrong with shooters?  The best game on the PS3 right now is a shooter, MGS is a shooter, and so is DMC4.  The most hyped game ever (killzone 2) is a shooter aimed at Halo, so what is your point?  Sure the PS3 has FF, but who cares?  Do you consider yourself more of a better than the rest of us because you use a sword in most of your games?  Look at the Wii right now with all it's "variety"  How many of those games are you just itching to play?  What's the problem if I really like to play shooters and other owners really like shooters and we meet up online to shoot the hell out of eachother?  Oh, and when I get my fill of a shooter, I'm probably going to play NBA 2K7, or maybe I'll play a little PGR3.

Just take a second and go back and look at the list of ALL of the games released on the 360.  The thing is, the list is FAR from being dominated by shooters.  The BIGGEST SELLERS on the 360 are shooters, but to say that the 360 is a shooter console is dumb.  There are so many games, game genres, etc. that aren't shooters, that to say that "the Xbox360 is a shooter console" is just coming from someone who looks at the top 360 games (Gears, Rainbow Six, GRAW) and says something like this. 

Seriously, go to the Xbox 360 section, click on Reviews, sort the list by release date and scroll down the list. Out of a block of 20 games, maybe 4 will be shooters.  You fail.  If you fail to realize this, then you are just being a blind fanboy and nothing that anyone says will make you admit you are wrong.

I made a list containing just a FEW of each game for every single major genre that could hit me. There are even more where the ones I came from are listed

I can disprove your point.  Ok so you're willing to speak for the majority of both 360 fans AND ps3 fans? What makes you think you're so insightful?  I would wager there are a lot of PS3 fans who would have a different 3 (but MGS4 would most likely be in the top 3 for all of em just like Halo 3 would be in the top 3 for all of em)

So that's 1 shooter that will be in everyone's top 3 respectively (Halo3 and MGS4).  That is a very safe assumption to make. SO that puts us at (majority wise) 1 ps3 shooter and 1 360 shooter.  Those are 2 safe bets for everyone's list

Mass Effect is also a very safe bet for 360 owners (like it or not it is).  That I will give you is a safe assumption.  However, it's been established Mass Effect is an RPG.  Not a shooter.  So that puts our list for commonly anticipated games at :

360= 1 shooter and 1 RPG
PS3= 1 shooter

That leaves 2 open slots for PS3 and 1 open slot on 360 open to debate on which is generally the most anticipated.  There's no other clear front runners like MGS4, or Halo 3 on PS3 to really speak for the majority of fans, just like there isn't a stand-out 3rd option for 360 fans.  However the fact that 1 of the generally accepted top 3 games for 360 is a RPG pretty much discounts your argument.  osusfaith

It looks to me like you looked up Bioshock instead of Mass Effect. :) I don't know about you, but I think anyone who is an actual fan of the xbox360 would have realized that Mass Effect is not from the creators of System Shock 2. That would be Bioshock. :)

It's a silly argument anyway, there are so many other games aside from shooters on the console. I currently own Gears of War, GRAW, Oblivion, Viva Pinata and PGR3. 3/5 of my games aren't remotely to do with shooting (unless you count shooting arrows in Oblivion as shooting, which you probably do as you put Mass Effect as a shooter) and the top two JRPGs this year are both coming to the 360! 

Picking shooters from the very diverse 360 library really doesn't count as proof.

You also count Mass Effect as a shooter, yet MGS4 and DMC4 aren't shooters? Those games both have guns in them, so if you're counting Mass Effect as a shooter then I'll count both of those as shooters.

I'm really finding it easy to pick huge holes in your stupid topic.

Not sure if this has already been posted (as I was not planning on reading all 10pgs) but from currently available games (no PSN/XBL arcade games included):

PS3 = 36 games --> 2 are shooters = 5.55%

X360 = 164 games --> 20 are shooters = 12.19%

IMHO 12% can't possibly qualify a console as a "shooter console"
