[QUOTE="dylanagibson"][QUOTE="kipknots"][QUOTE="dylanagibson"] [QUOTE="OhSnapitzRap"] is like poetry.. It's people speaking from their heart about their current living situation, Stories, and or world events. If you speak about rap (as a whole..) being about "flash" than you know nothing of the art. And the fact that you define Fresh Prince as "good" old school rap already sums up your knowlege of the genre. KRS 1 is old school, Leaders of the New is old school, Tribe called Quest is Old school, De La Soul is old school, LL Cool J is old school.. And you speak about current rap.. Have you listened to Lupe Fiasco? Common? Do you even know who they are? kipknots
Music is poetry poetry put to sound, imo. Or, atleast it should be. That doesn't necessarily mean rhyming through the whole song. IMO forcing a song to rhym and limiting yourself to certain words takes away the meaning and value of a song.
I perfer more crazed song structures and writes who sing or even speak or shout in free verse (i.e. mewithoutYou, Circle Takes the Square) compared to those that rhym and it gets repetitive.
It probably sounds like I'm a hater, but I actually do enjoy more of the better old school rap, but I perfer more of Hip-Hop styling than anything.
IMO, computers are for pr0n and consoles are for gaming and listening to the kid on the other end of the headset screaming and cussing his guts out, haha.
I completely disagree with your definition of music. Or would you say that this is not music? I'd say that music is simply a structured collection of sounds. It doesn't need to have a meaning nor does it need to be beautiful. I do think that it has to influence your mind though (directly through the sounds, and not the meaning of lyrics).
Btw, I'd take Hip Hop and quite a lot of Techno over Rock, but Jazz and Soul as well. What does that say about me?
Yeah, I should have put songs instead. My fault.
Also, why would you listen to music that isn't beautiful? Now, I can understand you might be meaning agressive and dark music over happy and cheerful music. When I read beautiful I think of generally a good song, and ugly a horrible boring song.
I don't know what that last statement is reffering to in my post, but it just means you perfer one kind of music over another.
Heh, that last statement was meant for the topic creator. I was just a bit annoyed by his elitist attitude.
And what I meant with beautiful is mainly that you don't have to like it for it to be music. A song can be horrible and literally everyone in the world could hate it, but that would not stop it from being music.
Is that a reference to the Jonas Brothers?
