Cranler

BC 2 came with 10 maps, each map is about 3x the size of a COD map.

I thought it came with 8 maps, 4 playable in each mode. That code unlocked maps for the other mode, bringing the total to 8 maps, until those last 2 maps came out. Now it has 10 glitchy, unpolished maps after all this time. Good stuff.

They are larger, but they are still the same maps, and the objective locations are the same everytime, so it's not like you are even using the whole thing.

DICE, the saviors of gaming, the shooter genre, and multi-player! :P

---

Really, though, that's just lame... And it's likely EA's decision. After the way the VIP thing was handled in Bad Company 2, I expected a bit better.

Episode_Eve

It was definitely EA's decision. Read below.

Link to comment.

There's probably no chance that anyone is going to see this comment but I'll leave it anyway. I have a very good relationship with a person at DICE, who I don't want to out, who came to me when the physical warfare pack was announced to get me to look through forums to find negative feedback about the pack that he could give to his superiors at EA. He was pissed that they had announced it without the go ahead of DICE and wanted to show EA the reactions of the community. He said they now have to do similar packs in other country's in order to keep the balance.

So yes, the exclusives suck but it was EA marketing that did this and DICE knew nothing about it.halo73

I'm confused, TC. Where does it say in your link that this content was cut from the game?

RurouniSaiyajin

This content was supposed to be in the game instead it's being offered as pre-order retail exclusive = cut from the game; simple inference.

Eh EA's no better than Activision it seems. Who knows maybe BF3 will topple MW3 and in 4-5 years we'll be ready for the next FPS king to take its place.

EA is not just the publisher though. EA owns Dice, they make the decisions. This is not Crysis with Crytek being an indipendent developer studio.

Yeah, like Guerrilla Games is a part of Sony.

So, it was Crytek's fault that Crysis 2 was a consolized disaster, all along? :P I wanted to blame EA!

What source do you want? This is content that is missing from the game. Dlc is suposed to be content created after the game is shipped. If that content is already made there is no reson why it shouldn't be in the game already.

Yeah, like Guerrilla Games is a part of Sony. But still, the overloards generally make some decisions that the devs otherwise wouldn't have, right?

That was all Crytek.

Bioware is owned by EA too and we have DA2 with crapload of first day dlc.

Defending EA's initial PR and support for BC2 is pretty appalling. The BC2 PR, launch and support was categorically ****ed up.

It shipped with five maps per mode. After one month a map on the disc got unlocked, because EA was so very generous with the free maps given to you at no cost through the VIP pass (which is free). It then took like six more months for them to fill in the gaps of what was an incomplete game with (free!) Conquest/Rush treatments of maps that were already done.

I want a source because personally, I prefer to make my opinions based on facts to avoid inaccuracies. And there is a possible reason why DLC made before the game is released shouldn't be in the game: Because the content is being made specifically for the limited edition to begin with. Hence, why I'm interested in a source.

Haha. It's because people hate Acti and COD so much. EA and DICE are saviors to them. It's funny, because all along EA is a bigger offender of pre-order / DLC / online pass stuff, from my knowledge.

And about stat tracking: COD Elite offers everything the Battlefield tracking will, for free. In addition, there's stuff Elite will likely offer that 'whatever BF's service is called' won't (for free).

This practice is appalling and it is hurting gaming.

There is a thread on this over at Reddit and it is top of the subforum (with 540,000 viewers).

I contacted EA Support telling them about the outrage this is causing in their loyal community and how it will negatively impact their sales to market this way. The woman I spoke to is forwarding the link and my message to their senior management and I should be hearing from them in the next couple days.

Sounds odd, but I'm sure this will be unlockable in the game like BC2, I mean, the Type 88 LMG is one of the main LMGs in these games.

Where are BF fanboys hiding? I see a few defending the move by EA but where are the rest? If this was Cod it would be hell on earth. At least in Cod no ones gets an advantage over me (Guns, equipment) just because they pre ordered from a store like BC2 and BF3. A map pack is fine since you don't have to buy and you can keep playing with people without the maps.

There are some Battlefield fans in here who expressed their disgust (one dude taking action; something commendable, that all gamers should do!), but I see your overall point. If this were Modern Warfare 3, my goodness, hell on earth (or System Wars).

So...just preorder and be done with it.

That's what it looks like, if you pre-order no Content left out.

A Pretty interesting way to get Pre-Orders.

(Besides, the Costumes from Mortal Kombat that you get when you preordered the game are now avalible as DLC so you shouldn't expect anything less from this.)

Unfortunately that is not the case.

Silver_Rook:question.... these pre order bonuses? are they available to everyone once they rank up? or are some TRUE exclusive? Demize99: The Physical Warfare Pack is fully exclusive. There's no other way to get those 4 items.

Source - Note: Demize99 is BF3's Senior Game Designer, Alan Kertz

It's sort of implied that when there is a pre-order bonus, there will be more to follow. Game and Gamestation aren't the only retailers in the UK. So we likely have that to look forward to.

EA will release the preorder content in a few months time as premium DLC. That's what they did with BC2.

CwlHeddwyn

BC2 stuff was all content that unlocked as you played the game and leveled up. You were not forced to pay for it or pre-order from a specific retailer.

[QUOTE="edidili"]

[QUOTE="RurouniSaiyajin"]

There will never be reliable sources confirming such things. It being impossible to tell for sure either way is a boon for publishers as it allows them to cut content should they so wish. And why wouldn't they? The only thing stopping them would be their ethics ( ).

Either way, this would remain a dick move for other reasons.

I see what you're saying, but not everybody can or is willing to pre-order. Sure, the fans will pre-order whether this deal existed or not, but it's about principle!

I'm not a fan of pre-order exclusives that are game changers, like weapons / abilities, but costumes are fine.

Edit: I see you read the article wrong. :P

So its it for people to pre order. Thats how it works you need something valuable, but not too valuable to anger the fans, so that people actually consider pre ordering the game.

Why is everyone getting their panties in a bunch over this? I see this in a lot of games, and it's not like these few things are going to break the game. Plus this content will probably be available for dlc at some point.

Actually all their BF games, excluding the first console game on 360, are quality. BF3 will be no different. This is how gaming is now people. You can either get over it and continue to game, or quit.

No, no, no, my friend, this is not how gaming is. EA is among the few who relish in cutting back content to ensure a player's purchase. Plenty of game publishers don't, in fact. Even CoD -the vermin so many think it is- doesn't even do this.

Things change, gaming is a thing... Deal with it. What is more annoying is the rising cost of developing and the fine line between success and failure, which is contributing to publishers having to resort to these measures to squeeze out the profits that they desire, if profits are low then release a map pack, if inflation has reduced the profits then give out preorder bonuses that directly affect gameplay, if all of this fails then cut out chunks of the game and sell it as exclusive content to make people think they are getting more than others when infact they aren't. Its business and EA CEo doesn't care what you think as long as his wallet stays extremely fat.

Why the hell is this a practice in video games? So damn annoying. Bad Company 2 did this as well, it's annoying. enterawesome

The 1st bfbc which was on consoles only did this, reserving select weapons only to a feew and the communtiy responded negatively which forced DICE to release it for everyone. hopefully if we whine enough the same will happen. knowing SW this shouldnt require too much effort

I'm really sick of this. Why couldn't Battlefield 1943 be the preorder bonus? Pre-order bonuses shouldn't ever affect the multiplayer gameplay wise, especially if they want it to be a competitive game.

As a programmer with both expereince in software development and making games as well as a person whose had plenty of expereince in QAing games, there's actually lots of very good reasons why you should always make DLC as DLC to begin with and never as part of the core game. But that's irrelevant. I wasn't expecting a real source to begin with but I wanted to be sure there wasn't one since the TC gave a source. Well, I'll leave you all to your discussion since I have my answers.

I don't care what game it is, this method is wrong and only annoys customers.

I have no problem with "early access" stuff or "golden weapons", or old maps being remade as exclusive pre order content but it really just annoys me when they actually cut content from the game in order to have exclusivity. Flechette ammo, Type-88 LMG, and a Flash Suppressor are all exclusively part of the Physical Warfare map which can be made by pre ordering Battlefield 3 from certain sites.

Why DICE? WHY? This isn't Battlefield 3 specifically, I'm talking about games in general too. Why strip down the overall value of the game and only give it to some people as a pre order bonus. These sites are from the UK, so basically there's no way of obtaining the Physical Warfare pack for many, many gamers. We lost a gun, and two weapon attachments for basically nothing. Horray :( And I know, it's always like this :-/ but it shouldn't be actual weapons! They could have at least also made them available to Battlefield Veterans a week after the release of the game!

Ok, these bonuses are getting out of hand. I remember when it was just a simple skin or something for a character or gun, but entire levels? Entire expansions? Weapons?

Too much.

Indeed, when will we say enough is enough? The time is now.

First they came for the Jews and I did not speak out because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for the Communists and I did not speak out because I was not a Communist.
Then they came for the trade unionists and I did not speak out because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for me and there was no one left to speak out for me.
