[QUOTE="viper-kid"][QUOTE="McStrongfast"]So how do you suggest people express their dissent in the hopes of betterment?

edidili

Anything against BF3 is seen as crying and moaning but if this was Cod they would be riding along. This forum sees Dice as angels and now they are doing things that even activision, the devil on these forums, doesn't do but yet its fine.

Are you reading the same thread I'm reading? No one here thinks it's fine.

Except for the person who said we are 'crying' and the other saying 'ya thats not what u get mad about, you get mad that its for UK only'.

Blame the gamers, not EA nor Dice nor any company for doing this.sethman410
But as soon we try to challenge this strategies we are regarded as crying and moaning so this has be accepted by the fans and is the future of gaming. Not talking about BF only by other games too.

Bu but... Only if gamers didn't buy DLC in the first place, it would be over by now.

There's a million reasons why this is wrong, so I'm just gonna say no. EA/Dice made the choice themselves to pull this garbage, "gamers" didn't force them under duress to do a damn thing.

Yes, I blame them, because they buy a ton of this crap, while I buy little DLC for MP.

I haven't brought DLC for over 20 games for that matter, less than that even.

This is a shame. I hate store specific DLC pre order bonuses

It's annoying but like I said EA will release it to buy later on.

Pretty much and you can chose not to buy an DLC anyways. As long as none of it gives a advantage in MP, I'm fine with it.

Depends on their power/rank.

Still, I don't see a reason for this unless its meant to generate more preorders or something.

I think that is the point. Make something valuable a pre order item and watch as people pre order which equals guaranteed sales.

Depends on what type of gun and the damage it can do. For the most part in any military FPS I stick with a M4 with the M203 attachment, which will be available to everyone, no matter what. I doubt this other light machine gun is going to be some OP gun that's going to dominate. It will be heavy and should decrease your mobility. The Flash suppressor isn't needed unless there are night time maps and even then you'll still see the shots. Now the Flechette ammo could be very devastating, but I imagine each side will have artillery, so I"m not sure how that would effect the game.

McStrongfast

Well the mass boycott/preorder cancel method hasn't really ever proved effective(see L4D2 and MW2).

Honestly, I'd rather just wait and see how this all plays out, knowing EA will likely ignore everybody. We don't even know how these "bonus" weapons will fare competetively, and we have no info on what the US's deal is yet. There's the chance that "omg that kid has a T88 and a flash stealthed SVS he's owning everybody" will actually be "omg that kid is still using those worthless weapons hur hur hur."

Then again, that doesn't address the problem of any future weapon packs. I tend not to buy DLC period, so I won't be supporting them if so.

There we go with the assumptions what stops the type 88 from being op as m60 was in bc2?

This is awful. I laughed when MW3 decided to have a subscription; I never thought anything like that (meaning ridiculous extra payments beyond map packs) would happen to Battlefield franchise.

It intrinsically affects the balance of the game. These are items which will only be available to people who pre-order the game at specific retailers. I assumed EA would release this as premium DLC later on, but reportedly that is not the plan for some reason. Not that either situation would be preferable. It's exclusive multiplayer abilities. And that kind of **** has no business being outside of a F2P game. Should be abjectly objected.

Hypocrites used to rant and joke about Activision charging for bullets in the future. Well here we are with EA proposing the idea that special ammunition shouldn't be part of the core package. According to EA it is additional value.

With that said I believe the Karkand pack is a legitimate expansion that was conceptualized to be a separate add-on after the core maps had already been locked down. The release date is some time after the game's launch. So as far as I can tell it's effectively free access to the first DLC pack. It being a pre-order bonus to drive early sales sounds fair enough to me. As long as the core game itself is not lacking in content.

Yep, but unless the game's terribly designed or the weapons are overpowered, it will be largely unnoticed.

The T88 could be a different model with the same stats as another LMG, could be worse, could be the new M60. We don't know.

Night time has been confirmed. They could incorporate a day/night cycle, all maps could have TOD server settings, or there will be specific night maps.

A game like BF3 is based on the idea that there is a counter to everything. If you deprive people from the option of using a flash suppressor with a sniper rifle, that means you can't be as effective and are at a disadvantage during certain situations. In previous Battlefields you could always adapt to the situation by changing class and loadout. The idea of exclusive (non-cosmetic) multiplayer content breaks that formula and balance.

[QUOTE="McStrongfast"]It intrinsically affects the balance of the game.IronBass

This is DICE.

But even if these items turn out to be overwhelmingly useless there's still the principle. All items should be available to all players by doing the unlock thing. Then it would definitely go by unnoticed.

That's very interesting and all, but I wasn't talking about principles, but about actual, practical scenarios.

In which case, let's be practical.

Scenario #1:
Boycott fails. Exclusive weapons are OP. Late-comers are screwed. Competitive is screwed because everyone's nitpicky.

Scenario #2:
Boycott fails. Exclusive weapons are not OP. Late-comers are slightly less versatile, but not screwed. Competitive is screwed because everyone's nitpicky.

Scenario #3:
Boycott successful. Exclusive weapons are now early unlocks. Late-comers are only at a disadvantage early in the game. Competitive gets one less thing to be nitpicky about.

Scenario #4:
No boycott at all. Exclusive weapons are OP. Late-comers blame others when they should blame themselves for not defending principles.

-----

I'd very much like to avoid Scenario #4.

I don't think being worried about people nitpicking is being practical.

If the game's well designed (which is supposed to be),competitive play will be fine, regardless of scenario.

I think it's of importance that we raise our concerns as early as possible in order to prevent the possibility of those actual, practical scenarios.

You seem to disagree with the notion that these items should be unlockable and that strikes me as odd since it would resolve all the qualms and potential issues. You claim that what you want is for these items to have no noticeable effect on the balance, but you would have the possibility present?

If we talk aboutpossibilities, there are tens (if not hundreds) of "possible" things that may or may not affect a game's quality, none of them actually measurable until the game's out.

EA is actually worse than Activision with the VIP codes and the holding back content for pre orders at least COD is the same for everyone.

But Activision, on the other hand, has ridiculously overpriced map packs and bs premium content. They're both equally unlikeable from a gamer's point of view.

Had this been BF3, I'd just shrugged it off and said "I'll just not buy the game then"...but SINCE it's BF3 and I actually want a complete experience I feel somewhat forced to buy the pre-order edition. I never would have expected that DLC were to become the biggest curse this entire generation, except for paying for multiplayer.

[QUOTE="McStrongfast"]I think it's of importance that we raise our concerns as early as possible in order to prevent the possibility of those actual, practical scenarios.IronBass

Yep, I haven't said the contrary.

But you're proponing inactivity?

[QUOTE="McStrongfast"]You seem to disagree with the notion that these items should be unlockable and that strikes me as odd since it would resolve all the qualms and potential issues. You claim that what you want is for these items to have no noticeable effect on the balance, but you would have the possibility present?IronBass

If we talk aboutpossibilities, there are tens (if not hundreds) of "possible" things that may or may not affect a game's quality, none of them actually measurable until the game's out.

And I'm arguing for the removal of the possibility in the first place. Everyone's happy. Dunno whatchu friction's all about here my main man.

 Where have I done that? It's not my business what other people do. If other people want to "boycott" BF3, more power to them. I simply said I see no reason to do so. But what other people do, it's their problem, not mine.

 Friction? My position in this thread is the opposite of that (that I don't see an issue here). Sure, if we lived in a perfect world publishers would remove any possibility of the game having flaws, but we don't. Talking about principles won't change that. And I'm perfectly fine with that, as long as the game is good.

I really don't see the point of all the anger, it's like 1 weapon, and it's not really giving anyone an advantage so I don't care. Not a big deal in my book.

It is an advantage, but not a gamebreaking one. People are making a big deal over something so little.

[QUOTE="Pug-Nasty"]

BC2 had so little content this doesn't really surprise me. What's worse is the content BC2 had was lacking in polish, which is ridiculous. I don't think DICE has what it takes to put out a quality product, at least not under EA.

millerlight89

Actually all their BF games, excluding the first console game on 360, are quality. BF3 will be no different. This is how gaming is now people. You can either get over it and continue to game, or quit.

No. When bad company 2 came out it was terrible... It had virtually no content and even some of that was VIP only.

Something so little?

Next time it'll be two weapons, then three, then four, then half the game.

...nevermind, I just remembered you were the same guy who said developers shouldn't release single player games on PC, there's no point arguing with you.
