[QUOTE="HuusAsking"][QUOTE="glez13"]I've always been under the impression that you place the mouse in your strong hand since it has better fine motor control (put it this way, if you can write better with one hand, you can mouse better with that hand) which is necessary to make the small but precise movements needed to properly aim in an FPS and pick the unit in an RTS. Mousing with the right hand while claiming to be lefty makes me wonder if the person is actually ambidextrous. It is because all of the years of going to school using their PCs along with my own. Do you think people are going to switch the mouse and stuff just for a lefty? :PIf they want to avoid a federal lawsuit for discrimination, then yes. That's why mouse programs have lefty settings and the ability to swap buttons. That's why a lot of mice are symmetric. The only thing missing is an appropriate set of keyboard controls for those keyboarding with the right hand (and thus likely using an IJKL configuration rather than a WASD one). Are there lefties that use the mouse in the left hand? I have never seen such a thing. I'm a leftie too and I use it like anyone else, with the right hand.

i was always saying that a mouse is better, but after playing Halo 3 and COD 2 on the 360, i saw that the controller (at least the 360s) is much more responsive but it takes time to master headshots
besides the mouse isn't very confortable after en extended period of time
PS3 controller i prefer rather than the 360 any day. Strategy games like WIC and other RTS games KB&mouse is great.i was always saying that a mouse is better, but after playing Halo 3 and COD 2 on the 360, i saw that the controller (at least the 360s) is much more responsive but it takes time to master headshots

Here's the thing about a mouse. What kind of skill does it take to literally put your finger where you want to shoot? That's like walking up to a target and shooting the gun instead of shooting it from afar. Bread_or_DecideI thought you would know better than this... thats not how it works and you know it.
Wait what.... more responsive? how on earth? ... Halo is one of the most "noob friendly" controlled games out there, the pace is slow, there is heavy aim assist, hell even the melee attacks in multiplayer have aim/lundge assist... the games characters move at a shokingly slow rate and there is barely any recoil on the weapons... infact the default weapon is hard to miss with its just like holding down a button and winning. Halo is a terrible example, infact its an example of how bad controlers are for FPS if it takes that much dumbing down to make a "smooth" shooter expriance on the consoles.i was always saying that a mouse is better, but after playing Halo 3 and COD 2 on the 360, i saw that the controller (at least the 360s) is much more responsive but it takes time to master headshots

i have never understood why they bother to put aim assist in games. i play a lot of cod4 and every once in a while u will notice it track an enemy for like .5 seconds if they run in front of you. but it doesnt help anyone shoot at all. they barely put it in because obviously that would ruin the game. i just wonder why its there at all.cliff122316Because anologs are terrible and watching consolites playing shooters is the funny thing ive ever seen, hell that includesmyself. Feels like your a robot on railes you have to glide with your feet and slow slowly aim along with your movement to resemble any kind of decent aiming... feels so tacky.

But hey, at least it's "smooth" and takes a lot more "skill" than aiming with a mouse.

Like I said earlier, it's more distracting than anything.

The default weapon on Halo, right, I mayaswell go to the arcade and a plush toy from the claw machine ... Up LEft, hold that button down. KILL!You're implying that it takes skill to use a gamepad for shooter solely because it an inferior tool in comparison to the mouse? I don't think that's fair to imply that. The challenge should not lie in the controls but in the content of the game. Well in a FPS it certainly feels too easy.[QUOTE="Bread_or_Decide"]Here's the thing about a mouse. At least the wiimote aims more like a real gun. Again requiring some actual real world-esque skill.

What you mean slightly moveming my rist a a frontal clock-like interace to a sensor bar above a tele is any different from a face down circle interface thats alot more responsive... somehow i doubt in real life your aim *lags*The only thing I prefer controllers for are sports games. Even racing games I don't prefer a controller, I prefer a wheel. KB/M for everything else.
The aiming is more direct, not more fun.'aiming was a nightmare'?
you probably had the sensitivity way too high or way too low
the aiming is far superior with M&KB than a controller

KB/M for everything else? What about hardcore action games like Ninja Gaiden and Devil May Cry 3? I can imagine playing those games with a M&K.:cry:The only thing I prefer controllers for are sports games. Even racing games I don't prefer a controller, I prefer a wheel. KB/M for everything else.

So your idea of fun is fighting the controls to aim as opposed to simply aiming at your own speed?

Maybe for you, I don't mind myself. You know there are actually people that prefer gamepads for FPS, why can't there be people like me that prefer KB/M for games like DMC3.
I find using a KB and a Mouse so much easier when playing a FPS title. Also there are a lot of RPGs that wouldn't work well using a controller (THe Witcher and PlaneScape Tormentare good examples)
Just hit whatever it is to lay down and then spray em to death. Worked for me on cod 2 online, i might get an m&k just for that because it's too slow to lay down on cod 4 with a controller.I'm pretty sure anybody half-decent at video games can destroy the best FPS player in the world with a mouse/keyboard combo against controller.

Not sure I see the point of the whole "controller takes more skill" argument. I don't know about anyone else, but that's not why I choose a gamepad. It's not because it takes more skill, it's not because I can't use a mouse, it's not because I think it's a more precise input device - it's because I want to game on a couch and it's a ****ton easier to do so with a gamepad than with a keyboard and mouse.
It's a perfectly valid reason - why try to retroactively justify it with an argument about skill?

[QUOTE="skrat_01"]Are you kidding me?
No, just no, and you are incorrect about Halo and Gears of War.
'If you have ever studied game physchology' well considering I'm studying as a designer, I know that a control function is more 'enjoyable', when a games design caters specifically for it, or has been designed around it.
That chunk of text is an assumption, not 'scientific'.
Hats off the most ridiculous things I have read in ages, source or no source.

There's no direct link to these studies because they're not publically published. You can request a copy from absolute quality, or emsense , but unless you've got a serious academic study, or work for a company that has used their service I really doubt you'll get any info. Also it's not like you'd be able to understand it once you got it.
Well by the said logic of this 'study', Its not likely the study explains why I am enjoying using a Mouse and Keyboard more than a gamepad for certain genres and games.I'm not sure I understand what you're trying to say, but the study uses biometrics to study heart rate, brainwaves, adrenaline, perspiration, and eye dilation and movement.
Unless you participated in the study it's not going to tell you anything about your personal gaming habits, but it will tell you about a large demographic of gamers, and it's even got some responses from non-gamers. From the study it's repeatedly proven that the highest levels of engagement, and enjoyment were during close combat sequences.
It really depends on the type of game you're playing.. for fPS i find the kb/m to be way better for aiming, everything just feels more natural to me, maybe you feel it so weird cause you're not used to it yet but believe me, once you get the hang of it you wont like to play a fps on a pad again... There're some fps on consoles that are above average on controls like halo, but in general i'd rather play them on my pc.. For other genres the pad is better like in GTA or other action games...
I prefer using a controller.DarknessLion
Same here. I only use a mouse & keyboard for certain games, like WOW (World Of Warcraft), but other than that, not very much.
[QUOTE="Rougehunter"]Same here :? Me tooI'm left handed and use my right hand without any problems

[QUOTE="HuusAsking"][QUOTE="SgtMoreless"]But then you remember the guy's a southpaw. WASD fits naturally for righties, but lefties keyboard with the right hand...which naturally falls towards the arrow keys. Not true(atleast for me) I am a lefty and using arrows would be a nightmare.Hey everyone! This guy does not play with WASD he plays with the arrow keys! BAWAHAHAHAH!!!11!!!!11!!111!
There is no sarcasm in this post. That was actually my first reaction.

I am left handed. I write with my left hand and thats pretty much it. I do everything else with my right. (throw balls ect.) I use my right hand on the mouse and left on the KB.
I really think it depends on the genre. Action games are WAY better with a controller, but RTS and MMOs(basically games with a tons of buttons) are impossible without a keyboard and mouse. For shooters, I think it depends on your mouse and you have to set the settings so its just right for you (sensitivity). I'm really half and half on shooters.
I got my first gaming PC a few weeks ago. I spent a lot of money on it but something is stopping me from enjoying PC gaming. It's the damn M&KB. Playing games with it is horrible. I honestly can't understand why most people say it's better. Playing Crysis and Stalker Clear Sky with the mouse was so frustrating. Aiming was a nightmare. Maybe me being left handed makes it harder? IDK. I know I don't like it though. Anyone else prefer the controller?x-2tha-zWell at least crysis is coming to 360.
