Why, why would MGS4 or GTA4 get 10s when none of their predecessors have? Steady incrememental improvements in sequals may up a games score, but they can never make it perfect.

Every game will inevitably have flaws, but to achieve a perfect score a game must have mind-shatteringly innovative and entertaining aspects which blow any flaws out of the water. I am not seeing any of that in MGS 4 or GTA 4. Both games are just marginially better than the games the previous games in their series.

i find it amusing how the appalling scenery textures in MGS4 are completely ignored (considering how cows go on about uncharteds textures constantly), it NEVER deserves a 10 in graphics, everything else maybe.

MGS4 will not get a 10 and the X360 version of GTA4 will score better than its lesser counterpartshadow8585

??? DLC will not count towards the score. I expect the games to score the same on both platforms.

don't forget that 10 doesn't necessarily mean a perfect game anymore, just near perfect

so technically, a game that would have previously gotten a 9.8 or 9.9 should have a rounded score of 10

i think the description's changed from 'perfect' to 'prime'

who knows these days with GS reviews, although I can see both games fairing well 10's are unlikely, 9.5's MAYBE

1.)Game videos don't look better. Motion can't hide the poor textures that the screenshots capture. I watched many gameplay videos and it really looks like a subpar GRAW 1.

"Amazing" was what i thought the first time i saw gears of war two years ago. this is not going to be amazing based on the videos and screenshots and for it to be that good they would have to redisgn the game engine and run it on a better system with more video memmory.

I know it's a longshot, but I really think that both GTA IV and MGS4 are both worthy of the AAAA hype, and may very well live up to it. Gamespot hasn't given out a 10 in quite some time, but these 2 games are looking as close to flawless as it gets. Given the track record of Rockstar North and Kojima Productions for delivering top notch gameplay with stories to match, I think it's very possible. What say you? :|

From a person who has never really played any of the game but watched a extensive amount of it by a friend playing it.. IS there really a game that compares to the play style of MGS? The closest thing I can think of would be Splinter cell and that game was dramatically different..

95% of games these days are doing nothing whatsoever new and fresh, and MGS4 is definetly doing things that have never been done before. 1 example Octocamo. I think this looks REALLY cool

Graphics don't need to be top of the line to get AAAA, look at some past AAAA some of them weren't bleeding edge of graphics. It needs good style and direction, doesn't need top of the line.

This thread proves how blind people can be to HYPE. Those are huge games and immesily hyped but LOL @ you thinking they have chance @ 10. By your logic..Ninja Gaiden 2 has chance @ 10 because quality wise..it's on the same level as both....just much less hyped.Kratos_OMEGA

Yes. Time will tell. Nevertheless, I'm aware of the enormity of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. It's going to prodigious. As a matter of fact, I wouldn't be astounded if it will be bigger than Gears of War 2. However, I'm trying to say that I don't think that it's going to be a marvelous video game that's going to feature a great deal of original ideas.

One last thing before I agree to disagree.

The fact that Gears is so linear and nowhere near as large as MGS4 allows it to be more likely for Gears to have better textures because there are less "things" like walls and such to make textures better on. If you understand what I mean

not really there are a few things here and there but nothing drastic, innovation in games these days is rare unfortunately
