Crackdown 3 Delayed to Spring 2018

Microsoft is delaying the release of Crackdown 3 from Nov. 7, 2017 to spring 2018, the company confirmed to Polygon today.

Shannon Loftis, Microsoft Studios Publishing general manager, said the company is delaying the Xbox One and Windows PC game to give development teams Reagent Games, Sumo Digital and Cloudgine extra time to ensure a quality experience.

“We’re very excited about Crackdown 3, and so are many fans, and so it’s a difficult call to move the release date,” Loftis said in an email interview with Polygon. “However, we want to make sure to deliver the right game, with the right quality, and at the right time. Crackdown 3 is a hugely ambitious game and we want to ensure we deliver the right experiences all the way through every part of the game, whether that’s campaign, co-op multiplayer or our competitive multiplayer mode, Wrecking Zone. Getting the balance right between the three modes is important, and we are going to take the extra development time to ensure that. Gamers can expect Crackdown 3 in Spring of 2018.”

Crackdown 3 was originally announced at E3 2014 and was, at one point, targeting a release in the second half of 2016. It’s clearly a complex project, one that has evolved since its unveiling, and Crackdown fans have learned to be patient waiting for it to come out.

“Crackdown 3 is an incredibly ambitious project that pushes the technological envelope with immersive true 4K gameplay, cloud-computing competitive multiplayer and a sprawling and futuristic open world,” Loftis said when asked about the challenges the development teams have faced over the years. “The team has been working extremely hard to deliver a great experience for fans and this extra time will help us do just that.”

Same thing PS4 Pro did, the entire games catalogue. Its not a new gen launch and neither was the Pro. All my games will play on it.

That said, I'm not surprised. All the flak people gave over it, figures they want to put more work into it. Its a disappointment but I've dealt with delays all my life. I wanted to get laid when I was 13, it got delayed until I was 17 for the first time. It happens.

@charizard1605: I don't understand why the X1X would need to launch with games when the entire X1 library will be available on it from day 1. Same with the PS Pro, it didn't need launch games. And no, it wasn't getting shit on either.

How could Sony? By the time they got vocal about the Pro, the Scorpio and early specs which were better were announced. How much can you hype your upgrade when you know the competition's shits on it?

They do know this isn't an Xbox One X exclusive right? what about the version that will actually sell way more units as in the One S? Most likely a reaction to the inept E3 showing and the obvious downgrade that took place.

@cainetao11: Sony has never let inferior specs stop them from outmarketkng the competition before (see also, PS1, PS2). They just literally didn't mean for the Pro to become anything more than it is, you can see that in the specs and in their policies on parity

I don't hold these mid gen upgrades to the standards of normal generation consoles. Sony flat out lied about PS2's Emotion engine capabilities graphically so that's a fail, dude.

I guess your problem is with MS being way behind in sales of units, actually trying to hype and sell something? Do you think the advertising department gets cut a check for doing nothing? Good or bad, they need to make an effort sometimes, ya know?

Look I get it, Sony = good, Uncharted 4 delayed = no problem; MS= bad, Crackdown gets shit on so it gets delayed and that still = bad. Its like I say, nothing MSFT does will be good enough to people. They are the en vogue one to hate.

@charizard1605: Ok? And for the second time why does it need launch games? Learn to answer people's questions. Forza 7 is already a graphic showcase for the system. And it's coming out before the damn thing releases. If it was a fresh gen, then yeah, it would need launch games, but it's not.

Xbox fans can't seem to catch a break this year. Go easy on them. This is probably the worst year the Xbox division has ever had for 1st party games. It's a barren wasteland for Xbox exclusives.

@charizard1605: lets be real here no one is looking forward to dropping $60 on Crackdown 3, especially in November.

We literally have, Destiny 2, AC, Wolfinstein, COD, and Battlefront. Releasing within weeks of each other. Plus you got Super Mario Oddessy dropping late October with those other games. Crackdown can't compete with that, only way that games successful is as a pack in or goes out for sale in a week month with nothing big around it.

Surprised they are leaving Super Luckys tail out there to launch amongst that line up to. That must be the pack in game ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ .

Game Developer is: Studio MDHR. I don't even remember if Cuphead was published by MS at all or am I'm missing something?

Objectively speaking, Halo, Gears (never played it) and Forza are solid franchises BUT your bread and butter does not need nor should be an improved racing game from the previous installment which tends to feel like 12 months or so between releases. When I saw the latest installment being pushed for the X1X I felt someone just popped a balloon and fart gas escaped.
