Today EA and Crytek announced Crysis 2 for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC. The next instalment of Crysis will be the first game built on Crytek's CryENGINE 3 and will be released for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC. EA will publish the game. "The development of Crysis 2 marks a major stepping stone for our studio," said Cevat Yerli, CEO and President of Crytek. "This is not only the next game in the Crysis franchise, it's the first title we are developing for consoles and the first title being built on CryENGINE 3. Hopefully it will be at the show later. I can see why PC owners would be upset at this news, but if there is one game they 're not going to dumb down on PC is Crysis, I wouldn't worry to much. Yet.

At GDC, they explained CE3 can transfer the PC build to consoles in a matter of minutes. Most likely it transforms the full level into a cell-based build.
Unless the graphics are absolutely something special or I get some new hardware that I'd like to test out...I'll be passing. Good for those console only players though I guess, if they really want it.

We havent heard what Crytek have in mind and yet people are already.. crying?! What about we waited for some more info about this announcement and maybe, just maybe Crytek will make the PC version superior compared to the Xbox/PS3 version. I doubt Crytek will *ruin* the game for all the graphic whores.
Also, this gives console users who bash Crysis saying "All graphics, no gameplay" to see how much of a great FPS it is after all. I'm hoping (as other users have said) that it's built on PC and ported to consoles.
Great news. Maybe the game will sell like it should this time around. You consoel only guys will get the chance to experience a true FPS.

I didn't know the sales for Crysis and Warhead were that bad. Are there any numbers floating around ? Not bad sold like 2 mil. But it deserves to sell 10+ mil imo. Best FPS this gen.

Even if its a refined crysis we have nothing to complain about. It will still be graphics king. This is good news for everyone. More sales will just mean better games later on.
Glad to hear console gamers'll have a chance to experience Crysis, but I'm partly sad because of it because dumbing-down the PC version will definitely be imminent.

I don't understand how this is bad news at all. Now concole gamers get to experience the game as well if they don't have a great gaming PC. I see no reason why the PC version should suffer because of this.

This. My expectations have dropped; i can see it being enjoyable with the 'feel/look' of Crysis, but it won't be Crysis. I'm going to be bashed here, but Crysis wasn't all about the graphics although it played a large part in one's enjoyment of the game.

If crysis is linear what isn't? It's linear in that you are going from point A to B, but how you get there and how you complete your objectives as you go, are completely up to you.

Although I am stumped on how Crytek will pull this off consoles seriously lack RAM if this game will be like Far Cry 2 (respawning enemies and enviroment damage repaired) then it would suck. And this is wierd Crysis 2 but not the original? Hmm maybe Crytek will bundle the original and Warhead along with this.
