The original XBOX is stronger then the Wii, it's no surprise that the WiiU wont have a lot of power

It's a weak console just like the Wii was a weak console, it's a gimmick device that has very little traction with the demographic that buys the newest versions of consoles on a regular basis.

Nintendo has been losing money since 2008 and the way the 3DS failed it's looking like soon they will be just making software for other companies

$350/£299 and by the time 720/PS4 come out it will be $279/£229... it will sell like lemonade in a heat wave.

Stronger in what? PowerPC > gimped Pentium 3. It also has more RAM. I'll give the Xbox better shaders but there's nothing the Xbox could do that the Wii couldn't.

Wii was weak but it innovated the way games are played. For a so underpowered console it was a pure success.

Their success has nothing to do with "innovation"... MARKETING and price is what gave the Wii its sales.

Well yea, it was the first console to actually allow anyone to enjoy games.

You could include Mario Kart and New SMB sales.

I used those to show that the only "inovative" game the Wii has compared to other "games".

The biggest denial a Nintendo fanboy could ever have is the idea that Nintendo care about "hardcore" gamers... I'm looking forward to the Wii U and have played every Mario game and Zelda title excluding handhelds but I'm not for one minute going to trick myself in believing that...

  1. Nintendo are going to get third party exclusives worth talking about
  2. Nintendo will release more than 1-2 Nintendo franchises a year
  3. Nintendo to unveil a new IP
  4. Nintendo to have a online worth mentioning

What a rational person should expect...

  1. 1 Zelda for the whole generation... 2 if your lucky
  2. Mario Party Wii U
  3. Wii U Sports
  4. Third party support only when it comes to PORTS
  5. No exlcusives other than controller gimmicked ones with low budget development

If your getting the Wii U for anything more than HD mario and Zelda then you will be dissapointed.

Wii did get it's share of innovative games, they're just overlooked. Take a look at Mad World, Little King Story, De Blob, WarioWare: Smooth Moves, Boom Blox, ect.

The Wii U might turn out weak but we don't know how 3rd parties will respond. The DS was pretty weak too but it enjoyed great 3rd party support.

As it stands now, we know very little about the console (other than how it'll look like and what it's capabilities might be; they did mention new IPs tho).

Knew you were going to make this thread so I'll just say the same thing I've been talking about in the other one. Contradicts what others have said including the technical director of Virgil games. Should make e3 interesting to watch though.

E3 can't come soon enough. Last year's was a pure fail so they better impress with the Wii U.

The XBOX could do 720p/1080i, the Wii is only strong enough to push pixels at lower resolutions.

As far as the shaders that's huge

There's so many bottlenecks in the Wii it's insane, it's like the opposite of what devs had to deal with at Sony. Not only did you need to design your games differently but you also had to work within very small parameters. It's not the Cell that has all this power just waiting to be tapped, on the Wii it's the TEV system that didn't allow you to have the ability from last gen.

It's a weak console just like the Wii was a weak console, it's a gimmick device that has very little traction with the demographic that buys the newest versions of consoles on a regular basis.

Nintendo has been losing money since 2008 and the way the 3DS failed it's looking like soon they will be just making software for other companies

OP's agenda is really convoluted.

He think's that a) Wii U's controller doesn't have mass market appeal b) Wii U will be severely underpowered relative to expectations of an 8th gen console c) MS and Sony will use the same loss lead strategy as in the 7th gen in order to render Wii U incapable of receiving next gen multiplats.

This view is the most unlikely here because it requires 3 unrelated factors to align perfectly and it conflicts with what we know of the 8th gen: Nintendo's strategy is to recapture hardcore gamers, they openly say this but formulated differently.

I don't think you understand

For some reason you bring up Sony, do you know that Sony makes other things besides games? Sony is a large company that is heavily diversified along many different forms of business.

Nintendo makes games and that's it.

I'll make it even easier, if Sony does poorly with their game areas they have other areas to draw from to stay in business

If Nintendo does poorly in the game area they have nowhere else to turn, they just go away

In the last 4 years Nintendo has lost hundreds of millions of dollars, had to let employees go, had to downsize their R&D and overall business model, cancelled expansion of their satellite locations, downsized their employee benefits packages, and lost it's top seller rating for it's products worldwide.

Im so torn on this console.

I havent had a Nintendo console since the N64, and if i get the Wii U i will have the entire Wii and Wii U library.

But these gimmicks scare me to death, im afraid i will buy the console, play it for a couple of hours, but have the game crippled by motion and never play it again.

Dont understand why they couldnt have the option of turning off the motion controls, it cant be THAT hard.

im not suprised by this consoles are about a cheaper alternative to major hardware so why would they make a extremely powerful console if there previous one was the highest seller and that didn't need the highest specs. in their eyes it would be wasting money for no reason.

LastRambo341

Indeed, like in actual gamers eyes will be wasting money for a terrible hardware and zero 3rd party support a 2ond time after Wii

Wii has games, WiiU will have em

what i meant is gaming is about the profit for companies these days, it has to be to keep up with the competition. the wii sold more than 360 & ps3 so they're not exactly going to spend more money and reduce their profit if they don't need to.

Well you wouldn't have a problem with Wii U sure it has motion controls but it I'm not sure how many games will use it and it is just a normal controller with a touch-screen that could or couldn't be used for gaming. The screen in the controller could be used if someone wants to watch the tv you can switch the game to the controller and still play the game while they are doing something else on the TV.

So, bland and enigmatic statments from a developer of a game hardly no one knows or cares about are the word of God now? Well at least it's fodder for the trolls on System Wars.

Wii could easily do 720p if it wasn't locked to 480p. Besides, how many Xbox games actually supported 720p? Two?

Xbox's shaders' main advantage is that they're fully programmable. Otherwise the TEV pipeline in Wii/GameCube is flexible enough to produce any effect the Xbox can. Possibly even more given that the dev writes new effects from scratch.

I agree with what you mean, but that was badly worded.

It's not about having cutting edge tech, it's about finding that perfect balance of having enough power in order to run multiplatform games.

That's the key, to be able to run multiplats, and to get 3rd parties on board. It's not about the power or resolution itself, it's about how it compares to the other consoles. You don't know what Xbox 3 has in it.

Jaysonguy

riiiiiiight....so the number 1 seller this generation in both console and handheld is just gonna magically give up making hardware because of a few fincancial hits???

well if that's the case sony would've dropped out of the hardware race when the PS2 launched....and the PSP.......and the PS3....oh and let's not forget the Vita

In the last 4 years Nintendo has lost hundreds of millions of dollars, had to let employees go, had to downsize their R&D and overall business model, cancelled expansion of their satellite locations, downsized their employee benefits packages, and lost it's top seller rating for it's products worldwide.

how exactly does that work? I mean...from what ive understood...the wii has been killing it sales wise hardware and software along with the ds and both being much cheaper than 360/ps3/psp...so how do they lose money? legitimate question

You're right, I don't. What I do know is that if this turns out to be true, Nintendo's gonna have a very hard time accomplishing that goal.

If PS4 and Xbox 3 are powerhouses that can output 1080p native, what stops devs from putting downscaled next gen engines, running at 720p on Wii U ??

so if this is on par with my ps3 and 360, what would be my reasoning to go out and buy a wii u?

fanboys will remain in denial until launch, not even E3 will convince them that the tech is current level, they will deny it even then and say that its still early.

the WiiU will be a 360 that plays Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Kirby and Donkey Kong in HD.... nothing more and nothing less.

sheep should be greatful for that at least.

honestly i'm not that in love with mario, zelda and donkey kong to go out and buy a platform just to play those titles. I have a ps3, 360 and a very very nice pc, so if the wii-u isn't really pushing the envelope tech wise (the controller thing doesn't interest me) then i'm going to pass. The wii was a big hit buy none of my friends touch their wii's and it collects dust unless we play brawl every now and then. I shall pass nintendo

No! Because these old rumours align perfectly with his myopic fanboyism and half-baked trolling strategies!

If you want fanboys in denial, look no further than sales related PSV threads.
