Darksiders II Director: Wii U hardware "on par" with current gen

xbox 360 plays FF11 and PSU which are basically both PS2 games...devs saying they will not upgrade it much is not anything special.

Also Darksider devs are terrible at taking advantage of superior hardware and anyone who has it for PC would probably say the same.

Yes they did. Not significantly powerful, like in the case with GC vs XBOX, but nonetheless slightly more powerful than Genesis, PS1 and PS2.

Sorry, but Sora is 2/3 right. Nintendo may have released more powerful consoles in the past, but they never compared to other more powerful systems (NEO GEO and XBOX) that released in their respective eras, save for N64 but that is one exception.

NEO GEO was never a respectable system for even a day, and GC being under powered compared to the Xbox is the only real argument you have but this only leads to a discussion of Nintendo being inconsistant about going after best graphics or not. Considerng there are not new consoles on the other end showing off superiority this really is a silly argument. PS4 and 720 could be released in 5 more years along side with the Wii screw U for all anyone knows at this point.

you know that they dont care s*** for the PC version rite? thats why it was a cheap port not because the dont know how to use it... a PC version of a game like Darksiders only pays off if they make it as cheap as possible... and the cheapest way is to make a bland port of the 360/PS3 version if they think theyll make some serious money with the Wii U version they will optimize it... if not they will just make a port with some touchscreen map functions or something so it looks like they optimized it...

Good. I doubt next PS or Xbox will be much more powerful and I'm sick of all the games having too big of budgets leading to developers taking less risks. It's almost only blockbuster or indie with no in between.

Too damn true. Innovation is dying thanks to high cost values, while I enjoy games that push hardware, I prefer more variety in my games and not playing a clon of a clon of a clon...

I like how people like you ignore countless other developers statements, single out the one negative statement from a developer that admittedly ported the game with 2 lines of code and completed the game 2 months after e3 2011, take that and run with it, just so it can support their overwhelming hatred for a company that make toys.

These two weren't ports, they were designed for the 360 and downscaled for Xbox. Altho this does show that the people who "couldn't see the difference" between Xbox and 360 when it came out were either blind or morons (or bad trolls).

It also shows that the Wii U graphics will look decent in any case. They just won't get rid of the "always a gen behind" thing. But hey, haters are gonna hate ;)

Sucks for the sheep who have to keep convincing themselves that better graphics mean absolutely nothing. But for those who don't lie to ourselves, we get very fun games with very deep gameplay and great (friend code-less) multiplayer and single player that also have great looking graphics.

What do you mean? Last year's Wii U tech demos are proof that it's graphics will be good and a big step from the Wii. Maybe it technically won't be much better from the current "HD" consoles but if there's anyone that can make pretty games on any hardware it's Nintendo. Skyward Sword and the Galaxy games are exactly what you're describing in your second sentence. And with Wii U's improved capabilites and controller they'll become even better.

I never read nintendo saying they were going to revolutionice graphics or performance but rather give a new experience. so their tablet controller is their thing not high graphics or performance. This doesn't surprise me at all :| The xbox360 and Ps3 are twins because they're literally the same besides a few games... why would anyone want a 3rd twin next gen. It's better if it's this way.

PS3 was actually a $800 console.

And Wii was a, let's say arbitrarily, $200, there was some profit margin but I don't know exactly how big it was.

The difference in price for a consumer was $350 but the actual difference was $600. I.e. you get almost twice more for what you pay if you get a PS3 than a Wii. That's why some people here are like "LOL". However the masses don't share this perception at all, for the console needs to be affordable, accessible and offer surprise. It's about the perceived value, not cost of the console. I felt that I got more enjoyment out of my $250 Wii than my $300 PS3 Slim and I value Wii more than PS3 because it offers new kinds of experiences. This concept is unfathomable to people here.

I think they mean that Darksiders 2 is on par with the current gen consoles. Other dev like Gearbox said that Aliens:Coloneil Marines for Wii U has higher texture resolution than the 360 and ps3.

The 360 came in a $300 model...7yrs. ago. If the WiiU is $300 for a 4650 and a juiced Xenon-type CPU, then it is nowhere near worth the cash. It probably won't even play DVDs or Blu-Rays.Those 50% more powerful than PS3 rumors were probably spot on.

However, Nintendo is in no danger after learning lessons from the 3DS launch. Their marketing will be spot on, their 1st-party releases perfectly timed. If they can come up with an addicting pack-in title like SMB+Duck Hunt or Wii Sports, then they will take the market by storm once again. Otherwise, MS will destroy them with Kinect.

They're aiming for a point beyond the current generation – they're just not leapfrogging it. One can certainly envision a future a couple years down the road where we have some significantly leapfrogged generation and then the Wii U again becomes a system that's not easily portable between the other platforms.
