[QUOTE="tenaka2"]

[QUOTE="sts106mat"] i have never heard that before. oh and i didn't suggest you should pay more, perhaps you think PC games should be free?

sts106mat

Don't be such a troll. PC games are cheaper because the development costs are tiny versus console development. Plus a high percentage of the console game cost goes to Sony/Microsoft.

As far as the devs are concerned the used game market is as damaging to them, they see no money from the sale, only the game retailers do.

Piracy will be just as bad if not worse on consoles before long.

i am not trolling, i genuinely have not heard that devs have to MS and sony. i have had a quick search and cant find any evidence of this either. as for the "pc gaming is for free" comment that was a joke. perhaps you should calm down a bit before you accuse people of trolling.

Well publishers have to pay a license fee or royalties for having a game on a system, plus each game released must be okayed by MS, Sony or Nintendo.

you think ms and sony just give away dev kits? they just let any old person put a game on their system without license fees?

I use to work on both console and pc titles, MS and Sony take a cut of every game sold. They are involved in game development from the start. No developer can make a game for console and just sell it.

The royalty fee is 10$, so it makes sense that PC titles are 10$ cheaper. Why do you think they are cheaper?

Now, this is what ticks me off. From a console sale, the publisher gets around 30% of the money.

The rest goes to shipping, packaging, retailer cut, ect...

But from a Digtal PC sale, they get 70% of the money, because steam/other services only takes 30%.

And now EA instead of making digital titles cheaper, they are making them 10$ more expensive. They get double the profit but they are making them more expensive...

Maximum milking and infinite greed.

I don't see any reason why a publisher should make more money out of single pc copy sold than from console one, especially when for plenty of multiplats pc version is often broken (like no DLC releases)

Actualy they are huge. 20+ mln dollars is pretty much standard for modern big profile game and that's not including marketing costs which often add another 20+ mln

Yeah because piracy doesnt exist on consoles. Its funny then how Bulletstorm was available to download and play a week BEFORE the PC version and a week before the game was even released officially for any platform...

May aswell stop supporting the console too then!

No offense but that's a really bad comparison. As the number of PCs and PS3s out there are hardly the same amount. I bet Crysis has been pirated more times than the total sales of Crysis and Killzone combined.

Ok, let's analyze this whole article... What caused this infinite rage and hate towards PC gamers?

The Crysis 2 beta leak. Whose fault is that it was leaked?

-The Crytek/EA guy that leaked it.

Did many people download the leaked beta?

http://torrentfreak.com/crysis-2-leak-fails-to-result-in-massive-download-fest-110213/

No...

Was Killzone 3 and Bulletstorm PS3/360 also leaked?

-Yep..

Destructioid is a waste of internet.

There are more PC than PS3 (obviously) but at the time of release how many PC capable of running Crysis were? In 2007 I don't remember any of my friends who could play it. This was not a problem Killzone had.

Alan Wake flopped miserably and was pirated more than it sold. Remedy may never recover from it. Crytek made good money from Crysis.

THe difficulty of developing for a platform is these days only a small fraction of overall costs. Where does this money go? To creating a lot of very high quality assets and doing it in short time. ie...the money is spent mostly on salaries. A 100+ peoples team is considered a norm these days, now multiply that by 24-30 months the usual dev cycle takes. And that's conservative. Teams with 200+ or even 300+ peoples aren;t that rare today. Add all the other costs this much people generate for emplyeer and you will get your answer

Metroid Prime 3 was awesome with the Wiimote, but unfortantely, most publishers are after a quick buck. I lol'd when I saw that Dr. Kawashima Kinect commericial. Microsoft are pathetic. :x

People pirate console games, too.

Destructoid: Bawww.

Developers don't inherently hate PC gamers, there's just a larger console audience now. And even with piracy rates on every platform, it still makes sense to port games to them as long as expected sales make up for the cost of porting/development.

Piracy shouldn't factor in there at all, because there's no way to accurately estimate how much money has been lost because of it. Actual revenue can be determined, so companies (and blogs) should stop moaning about it and focus their energy where it's useful.

That doesn't mean economists can't make some pretty accurate estimates.

They could, but they don't, because publishers always take the total number of pirated games and multiply that by the retail price of the game, assuming that everyone who pirates would have bought it if piracy were not an option. Which is just as ridiculous as saying that no one who pirated the game would have bought it.

Piracy is pathetic, but do devs need to pull support of PC gaming altogether for it. Console games have their fair share of piracy issues too, along with used games. It doesn't surpise me at all who wrote this, either.

Upparoom

The thing with used games is at least the game was bought legit once, so companies still got a profit from it and they still get a profit from the stores who sell used games cause if you like it or not places like gamestop sell games a lot more than your local walmart or target. With pirating they get the game once from a friend or rent it.....bam next thing it's on the net ready to be copied by anyone.

As for used games.....do you think Ford and all the other car/truck companies get butt hurt when people get a used car from a used car dealer? (answer is no).

True. Or books, or movies, or CDs, or pretty much any consumer product. It's kind of precious how videogame publishers believe their industry is special.

[QUOTE="exiledsnake"] And now in 2011? Even laptops now can play it on(at least) low settings. exiledsnake

and now it sold. This is a strength of PC. Games keep on selling even after 10 years. Let's face it, 3.5 million copies is more than fine for an exclusive fps which lacked a good multiplayer.

And if there was no piracy it could have sold almost double that amount which might have made Crysis 2 a PC exclusive.

And used games change hands 4 to 5 times, it it were outlawed the console devs would sell five times as many units.

Sounds like something a pirate would say...

ImaPirate0202

"He's not hellbent so it's mandatory he's a pirate"?

Sounds like something an ignorant would say. There's a thing called "spectrum", very few things in the world are either black or white. And this isn't one of them.
