Perhaps we're talking about console-only kiddies?
You'd think most reasonable folks understand that a cutting-edge PC that has 2011 tech and cost anywhere from 3-10 times the amount of a console would outperform $300 2005 tech.
Did somebody important say the PS3 version is better than the PC version, or something?
I believe we're mainly talking about your average human being having no reason to doubt fx a 360 game when it says 1080p on the back of the box.
To non enthusiasts, a term like "native resolution" might as well be derived from an alien language.
In the case of die hard hard fans, there's a lot of denial involved of course, but for most consumers it's just the plain old combo of lacking in depth knowledge and clever use of feature advertising. Technical half-truths are extremely effective when directed at users of a device, the main feature of which is being accessable, afterall.
