The thing is PS3 did very well. I don't understand what comeback PS4 made. People act like PS3 sold 50 mil or something. It's not far from PS1 numbers for crying out loud. Sonys home consoles always sell well.
Even with Sony completely shooting themselves in the foot last gen (600 bucks, giant enemy crabs, etc), PS3 still managed 2nd place. Pretty impressive. X1 will not be as close to PS4 as PS3 was to 360, and Sony by far dropped the ball more in 06 than MS did in 13. Just shows the power of the PS brand.

The PC isn't a company It can't be a market leader. Try getting out of system wars and into the real world.
Before MS's disaster of a reveal, no. I fully expected MS to come out with a superior machine and basically check anything Sony had, giving us at best a repeat of PS3 vs 360. But, MS utterly shocked me by being a total and complete disaster of epic proportions (to this day I'm still baffled at the ignorance and undeserved arrogance they displayed).
Didn't really care, saw the specs for both systems before I purchased one, friends telling me left right and center how crap those specs are (I knew this myself), bought one of the systems because consoles are more about fun, playing exclusive games and those games more suited to a console experience. I don;t care about a company winning, how much money they make, give me good game, a good experience with the system itself and I will be happy I spent my money.

It baffles me that there are still people that think the ps4 is so much better than the x1. Uncharted may be a good looking game but that's because the uncharted devs are so good at animation, they showed it in the previous uncharted games and in the last of us. But this sort of animation is just as good on the x1 , the game ryse is a good example of it.
The extra power in the ps4 is vastly overrated. Gddr5 gives more latency, the cpu is bottlenecking and the 50 percent more shader cores are very nice, but that gpu doesn't perform 50 percent better than the x1's gpu. The x1 had a very bad launch and their os and bios setup was ridiculous (reserving power for the kinect was one of the worst business decisions i saw in console history) and because of that sony's ps4 sells like hotcakes but the latest titles clearly show that in some cases the x1 even performs better because of the better cpu and it will only get better for xbox since they're unlocking a 7 th core for gaming (which was previously reserved for os).
Still for me sony had a lot more screw ups than microsoft, no being able to service multiplayer for months is unforgivable. With all the latest attacks on systems i wouldn't want to put all my faith in playstation, i never have actually. To me they're in the console business because they got lucky, and they keep on getting luck. , if that will keep on paying the bills, remains to be seen. There's no doubt they have excellent first party support, if you're into that kind of thing.
I use my pc for those adventure games, consoles are for fighting games and sports games in my book and for that I don't need a playstation at all.

The main factor may be exclusives to you but that's not for everyone and the xboxone has exclusives too. I for one play a lot of fifa ultimate team, and on fifa ultimate team you can have legendary players but they're only available on xbox. This might sound like a small thing to you, but there are legendary players in fifa that have a street value of 1500$ , in total you have 49 legendary players, not all have a value of 1500$ of course, but in total it's around 15000$. It's big business, so big that fifa makes the highest revenue of all games (2.2 billion last year)
So exclusives can be very personal and a lot of people don't care for playstation exclusives at all, there are numerous reasons but one of them is that they don't like that japanese touch.
The power is more relative than you think, in a cpu heavy game the ps4 is actually weaker, the unlocking of the 7th core on the x1 will make the difference a lot bigger. The gpu side is defenitely stronger though but as you can see in latest games, it's the difference between 900p and 1080p, however, when the cpu is bottlenecking, the ps4 needs that gpu do to cpu tasks, the more cpu intensive the more the ps4 will struggle because a cpu is still better at cpu tasks than a gpu.
So your more powerfull is a lot more relative than you think. Not only that, that powerfull console you're talking about is overpriced. 400$ is not a sharp price for the hardware you're getting and 400$ is cheap for a new console. When looking at the hardware prices, even in 2013, you're not getting your money worth. The whole point of buying a console is that you are getting your hardware cheap but the manufacturer makes profit on the games. Sony is making a lot of profit on selling that ps4's though, it's the same case with the x1.
Not only that, they pack weak hardware for this day and age. Consoles, at release, have always been as strong as possible (remember the bit wars). This mechanism was at its top last gen, only to fall very deep this gen. The x360 and ps3 had amazing tech under the hood for the price but with the ps4 (and x1) they sold you a turd.
For these reasons, the ps4, x1 and actually the wii u as well are, hardware wise, the worst consoles in history.
As for their luck, maybe you should take a look a console war history. The cd and fuckups of other console manufactures is what got sony in the game. The cd was a joint operation of sony and philips. Because of this tech they were able to get into the console manufacturing business. Nintendo and sega were unwilling to pay for it and it was a severe handicap in their consoles. Sega was even more stupid by not optimizing their system for 3d. The dreamcast was a good effort but it was too little too late.
The ps2 was so successfull because the ps1 was such a huge succes and the sega fans had it with sega. After releasing 2 consoles that were a failure, most people waited for the ps2 instead of buying the dreamcast. Nintendo got pushed into the corner because microsoft made a big entrance with the xbox, which was vastly superior than the ps2. The x360 that released a year sooner than the ps3 was so optimized that it even got sony in trouble. The fact that sony sold a way too expensive and unbalanced ps3 almost floored them but because nintendo didn't have the guts and funds to join this arms race sony was able to get back on their feet, again because of the succes of the ps2, that was mostly a success of the ps1. So yes, sony got lucky.
However sony were sitting ducks this time because they lost way to much money with the development and sales of the ps3. They sold enough ps3, but at release they did it with huge losses. Still, nor nintendo nor microsoft took a chance to conquer the market and finish sony off in the process.. Instead sony is conquering it again because nintendo and microsoft screwed up and now they're conquering the market with a turd. So yes sony got lucky.
Funny how things turn out. What I am curious about is when nintendo is going to release that new console they're working on. They can't afford to release another half assed console and they can score an open goal here, hardware prices are dirt cheap right now. At 400$ nintendo can sell a console that way stronger than the ps4 and x1, heck they can even ask 500$ for a superior system, people will buy it. At this time both ps4 and x1 are sitting ducks.

well at the start of gen i wasnt sure what sony were doing.
the wiiu looked like a complete catastrophe at its E3 reveal. it launched and it was obvious that nintendo had made a colossal error in judgement. so by E3 2013 i knew nintendo were out of the race.
when the news started coming out about the X1 with the DRm and kinect and so on i knew the advantage was going to sony.
the X1 was going to be complicated to explain (the same as the PS3). it was also going to cost more and be less powerful and the DRM looked hughly restrictive. so E3 2013 was basically an open goal for sony and the scored (it would take a very special kind of incompetent to mess that up). i mean sony managed to sneak in that online play would be behind the paywall for the PS4 and no one batted an eyelid...thats how bad MSs stance was at the time.
when MS backed down on the DRM stuff it still wasnt looking good.
a less powerful console that costs more money and with extra features that dont seem to be getting the markets attention. it screems the PS3 and the mistakes sony made with that console.
so by the time the PS4 and X1 launched i had a good feeling that the PS4 would be the sales winner this gen. MS are fighting back (DRM back to normal, kinectless version for the same price or less than a PS4 and so on) but they have a lot of momentum to claw back.
what i havent anticipated is MS catching up in the US. i thought it would be a blip around christmas due t deals but they seem to have sustained that momentum into 2015. so thats interesting.
but WW i dont see anyone catching up to sony in the console space this gen now unless someone finds gold dust in an exclusive game.
overall, assuming someone doesnt have any ties to live or anything like that, the PS4 still offers the best overall package.

When looking at the hardware prices, even in 2013, you're not getting your money worth. The whole point of buying a console is that you are getting your hardware cheap but the manufacturer makes profit on the games. Sony is making a lot of profit on selling that ps4's though, it's the same case with the x1.
Not only that, they pack weak hardware for this day and age. Consoles, at release, have always been as strong as possible (remember the bit wars). This mechanism was at its top last gen, only to fall very deep this gen. The x360 and ps3 had amazing tech under the hood for the price but with the ps4 (and x1) they sold you a turd.
For these reasons, the ps4, x1 and actually the wii u as well are, hardware wise, the worst consoles in history.
As for their luck, maybe you should take a look a console war history. The cd and fuckups of other console manufactures is what got sony in the game. The cd was a joint operation of sony and philips. Because of this tech they were able to get into the console manufacturing business. Nintendo and sega were unwilling to pay for it and it was a severe handicap in their consoles. Sega was even more stupid by not optimizing their system for 3d. The dreamcast was a good effort but it was too little too late.
The ps2 was so successfull because the ps1 was such a huge succes and the sega fans had it with sega. After releasing 2 consoles that were a failure, most people waited for the ps2 instead of buying the dreamcast. Nintendo got pushed into the corner because microsoft made a big entrance with the xbox, which was vastly superior than the ps2. The x360 that released a year sooner than the ps3 was so optimized that it even got sony in trouble. The fact that sony sold a way too expensive and unbalanced ps3 almost floored them but because nintendo didn't have the guts and funds to join this arms race sony was able to get back on their feet, again because of the succes of the ps2, that was mostly a success of the ps1. So yes, sony got lucky.
However sony were sitting ducks this time because they lost way to much money with the development and sales of the ps3. They sold enough ps3, but at release they did it with huge losses. Still, nor nintendo nor microsoft took a chance to conquer the market and finish sony off in the process.. Instead sony is conquering it again because nintendo and microsoft screwed up and now they're conquering the market with a turd. So yes sony got lucky.
Funny how things turn out. What I am curious about is when nintendo is going to release that new console they're working on. They can't afford to release another half assed console and they can score an open goal here, hardware prices are dirt cheap right now. At 400$ nintendo can sell a console that way stronger than the ps4 and x1, heck they can even ask 500$ for a superior system, people will buy it. At this time both ps4 and x1 are sitting ducks.

The main factor for consoles in order to sale , except a single fluke which was Wii which again it had some solid exclusives , are exclusives. Period.
If personally you dont like PS exclusives , majority does. So if you speaking for yourself you are more than welcome , we are all different. But if you speak as a general rule i dont agree at all. Since PS1 , Playstation had and still having the most diverse and big library when it comes to exlcusives/time exclusives ever. If you multiply that x 3 generations there you have it. So i dont get what is so difficult to understand there but as i said , if your personal preference is otherwise is very well respected. Personally i dont understand all the fuss about Nintendo games like Kart/Smash etc but i cant tell blantly , they are bad games or noone likes them because i dont like em when they selling like crazy... As for if current consoles are worth their money or not compared to old consoles is irrelevant. Has PS4 the exclusives i like ? Is the PS4 the best hardware out of all 3 ? Is price decent ? Does it play most of multis better ? Do i know that ill get exclusives even few months before PS5 gets a release ? Will i have a really diverse library to choose awesome games to play from ?
Those are the questions a gamer should ask ... Not if older consoles were better hardwares etc because even if its so , PS4 its still the better deal.... So again we differ alot how we are thinking things.

Nintendo let Wii die out of nowhere with thousands of gamers , Wii fans themselfs , being upset about it while calling Wii a dust collector. X360 started to get slow on exclusives. PS3 went as hard as possible even few months before PS4 release with massive exclusives like TLOU. Noone could finish off Sony like you saying simply because they were keep delivering exclusives after exclusives while the others were dead or in life support. So thats not luck ... How the heck you calling this luck ? Thats one of the most respected things a company can do when is in a multibillion loss for 7-8 years constantly. Why the companies you calling they had profits , and huge ones ( Wii ) , let their systems dead ? Something is off isnt ?
Also X360 with such a momentum to end up on par with PS3 and call that a success is .... tearful.

That is a bold faced lie. I own SNE ADRs. Stock closed at 27.51 Friday. In March 2011, 4 years ago, SNE was at 35. 68. So no it hasn't hit a five year high.

If you mean come-back from the initial PS3 disaster - absolutely. I knew in 2009 the PS3 became the far better value. With the strength of it's games, it's amazing the PS3 didn't completely dominate the end of last gen in terms of sales.
Now the PS4 thing is different. PS3 had gained some solid momentum for Sony that probably was going to carry over into the following gen regardless, but I think MS really helped them out a ton. MS dropping the ball probably handed Sony most of their current edge, otherwise it might have been 50/50 split.

TOKYO (Reuters) - Japanese stocks rose to a 15-year high on Thursday morning, helped by gains in financial and shipping companies, and as Sony Corp jumped on a well-received business plan.
The Nikkei share average gained 0.5 percent to 18,283.73 at the midday break after earlier rising to 18,322.50, its highest level since May 2000.
At midday, the value of trade on the Topix stood at 1.2 trillion yen, suggesting that daily value is heading for 3 trillion yen.
Market players said that a combination of factors have helped to underpin demand for Japanese stocks among foreign investors. These include news state-owned Japan Post Holdings Co's ditching of its conservative approach to investments with its $5.1 billion takeover of Australia's Toll Holdings, and the Nikkei breaking new ground on its dollar-based value.
"U.S. long-only (investors), who look at things on a dollar basis, say that the Nikkei is finally going into new ground," said a senior trader at a foreign brokerage. "Finally, we are broken out of a range we've been trading last year. The highest recently was $152.2, right now it's $154.2, so it's made that nice break out."
Japan Post also said on Wednesday it would review its banking unit's $1.7 trillion asset portfolio, signalling a major shift in investment strategy at one of the world's biggest institutional investors.
Sony soared as much as 4.0 percent to 3,300 yen, the highest since April 2010 after saying that it aims to boost operating profit 25-fold within three years by growing its camera sensors and PlayStation units.
Banking shares were higher, with Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group rising 2.5 percent and Mizuho Financial Group up 2.7 percent.
Shippers were also in demand. Mitsui OSK Lines added 0.9 percent and Kawasaki Kisen gained 2.5 percent.
Some analysts noted overbought technical signals in the market suggest near-term profit-taking could be possible.
The toraku ratio, or up-down ration, rose to 136.58 as of Wednesday. A level above 120 signals an overbought market. The ratio is calculated by dividing the 25-day moving average of stocks on the Tokyo Stock Exchange's first section that gained by the 25-day average of those that fell.
The broader Topix rose 0.6 percent to 1,491.51, and
the JPX-Nikkei Index 400 gained 0.6 percent to 13,530.62.
Clearly states Sony rose on statements by the company, not actual financials, smegmite.

Can you link me to this information on TV, music please. Because I am not trying to insult you but I have been involved in the markets since I was a series 7 registered broker in 1993, and I have sources I look to and your word on SW isn't one of them.

Yes, M$ screwed up really really badly with some of their negative features being mentioned, and nintendo continuing to casualize set Sony up to succeed.

How one could be a sony fan and NOT know they would outsell the struggling WiiU and a competitor that at their best is a US and UK console. Xbox has NEVER outsold PS world wide. This total romanticizing of an underdog is complete bullshit. Needless to say I don't believe you @SolidGame_basic
they were certainly the underdog last gen, the x360 released a year sooner, was cheaper and achieved the same quality. Sony's ps3 was unbalanced and costed way too much. They promised extra power that they couldn't deliver while they had to ask 600$ (200$ more than the xbox) and it had less features (no party chat). It did have a blueray and free online play, but an xbox was too a lot of people a more interesting buy. This all while the ps3's manufacturing cost was way higher than the x360's. They are still in debt because of that operation.
They were able to tap in that extra power later in the gen though, uncharted series proved that and especially the last of us. Because of that the playstation gained a lot of trust again from gamers. Still the network outage for months was not good for business at all.
The screwup of microsoft by pushing the kinect, always online, drm, using a weaker gpu, the esram that didn't work at release, and os and bios choices that made the system even weaker resulted in release games that were in 720p and 30 fps while the ps4 achieved 60 fps and 1080p. This time the extra power was delivered from the get go and at a cheaper price. That and nintendo's wii u was godsend for sony.
The fact that it was highly possbile that the ps4 wasn't actually 50 percent more powerfull than the x1 was simply buried, even after the x1 overclocked the cpu. The results were there, and if esram was actually going to be able to improve performance was far from sure for the customer.
But now things are different the graphics power in the x1 is still weaker, but the esram defenitely made the power gap smaller.. That cpu overlock from ms did show its worth as well and the fact that they going to unlock a 7th core makes the system more interesting again. Sony will be needing that extra gpu power, in certain games, to do cpu tasks. Ac unity is a good example of it. The decision of selling the xbox without a kinect at a much cheaper price, even cheaper than the ps4 makes the x1 a very interesting system again.
But sony has gained momentum and more than ever they're back in the game but 2006-2010 were hard years for sony and at certain times in that period they were definitely an underdog, especially when they had to shutdown multiplayer services for months.
