Plot/Story:

Disgaea 4 takes place in a Netherworld, common in Disgaea titles, and follows the story of Valvatorez, a former tyrant and vampire who gave up on his powers and atrocities after promising never to drink blood again until he manages to instill fear into a girl he met 400 years ago, Astina, who died before he could do so. Due to the decline of his powers he was reduced to being the warden and Prinny Caretaker of the prison in the Netherworld. Displeased and angered at the corruption of the Netherworld's rotten government, he rises up and seeks to overthrow it in order to take place as its Overlord.

During his conquest he receives the aid of his loyal servant Fenrich, a fellow caretaker of the Prinny prison, and a young girl named Fuka, a middle-schooler who was killed by an artificial demon created by her father, Death Z, and was meant to turn into a Prinny, but was simply given a hat due to the lack of Prinny skin. Along the way they also recruit Emizel, the netherworld president Hagos' son, Desco, the prototype of Death Z and a man-made demon created by humans to be the ultimate weapon who was abandoned in the prison, and Vulcanus, the "angel of avarice", an angel who is stealing money from everyone in the netherworld. After they defeat the president it is revealed that the netherworld's decline is due to how it is actually being controlled by the secret ruler of the human world, a man who calls himself Nemo..more

Features for Disgaea 4

Disgaea 3 to Disgaea 4 Connectivity:

• players who have a Disgaea 3 save file will unlock an "Evil Symbol" item. Said symbol allows for the free confiscation of items from the Netherworld Assembly. However, this symbol is also unlockable through normal gameplay means, so anyone who hasn't played Disgaea 3 won't be missing out.

New Graphical engine for the PS3:

• For the first time in the series disgaea 4 has updated graphics never seen on any other Disgaea game using HD sprites for the PS3 as well as many other new features

Magichange System

A new feature that was introduced in Disgaea 3 makes its return in Disgaea 4 as well. But unlike Disgaea 3, NIS plans on making multiple uses with the system as well. Such uses include:

• Monster + monster = mega monster
• Mega monster + human = mega weapon
• Mega Monster + Human with Mega Weapon = Human with two Mega Weapons

Punishment System:

• By capturing an enemy unit (by throwing them into the base panel) you can use the coaching ****oom to punish and torture them into become allies. This can be done on both humanoid ****s and monsters.

Online Mode:

• There is an online mode in the game in which you can create a custom pirate ship and send characters into the internet to barge into other player's games. There's also an automatic level arrangement system. For example, when you go online to fight a random person and your characters are around level 2,000 then you will fight someone at around that same level instead of someone at level 9,999. Also you can apparently call for help during an online match. You will be helped by a random person or maybe a friend. But this is Disgaea, people probably won't help you for free, but they will probably want something in exchange.

Map Creation:

• You can create your own custom maps in the game. You can also put the map you created online for other people to play and rate. You create maps by placing tiles, characters and Geo Blocks in a grid like area. Once completed you can name the map and give it a description. However, this feature will be slightly altered in North America and Europe due to differences in regional regulations.

I enjoyed Disgaea 3 very much apart from it's silly story and inane humor.

The concept of reversed morality was fine by me, but my memory is forever tainted by the resident black sheep. Delinquent badass because you're a dedicated student with high morals? Not at all amusing and downright cringeworthy when you keep rubbing it in.

Impossible to hate Prinnies of course ;)

it really does look awesome, nothnig less than what id expect from a disgaea title :P ill be hardcore enough for it with a price cut or after i finish the third :lol:, they should sticky this thread or somethin' for awhile though alotta work put into it

I have no idea what the hell Disgaea is, I hear it's some kind of strategy game which sounds cool. But the way it looks turns me off....

Fisrt off it looks like one of those bad Japanese cartoons that is intended for little kids. Also the graphics look like they could have been made on PS1.

I also don't like the charecter designs, especially on the girls. Only some lonely loser would draw half naked cartoon girls, and what's even worse is that some of the girls look like kids! Seriously isn't that illegal or something? Why would anyone buy this?

By the way, gamestop potentially leaked some information about RF ToD not so long ago. They say it's going to be $50 for the PS3, $40 for Wii and the release date is September 27.

If true Natsume doesn't have much time to actually advertise the game, haha.

I like stratege games and everything like that, like I really enjoyed the Final Fantasy tactics games and I heard Disgaea is similar so I thought I would check it out to see if I would like it or not. But no sorry, it looks just down right wierd and messed up, also I heard some of the voices in a cutscene on Youtube and theywere freakin' annoying as hell.

I went in with an open mind and hoping for something cool, but disgaea isn't anything like that. I don't know what the game is even about in the first place...

Yes, some games have impossible trophies like the ones on FFXIII or WKC heck disgaea had one of the hardest ever. not only did it take me so long to beat it, it took me ages to reach that high and i still cant reach the 1billion hit trophy.

I know this isn't helpful, but everything about Disgaea makes me want to punch someone. This feeling increases with each new installment.

wow man you need to relax seriously. and you need to do lots of search on this series, disgaea is one of the most famous tactical series out there and is very famous among RPG and tactical fans. the game is known for being funny to the max, for once you wont use guns or see huge aliens. plus i dont see any half naked girls :roll:. its a game! relax i would say try it out. this series is one of the best selling for the company and is extremely addictive. I will buy this game along side thousands of other gamers. not to mention unlike other games this series is always cheap

I wasn't angry, seriously...

If the game is similar to FF tactics in gameplay than I'm sure it's fun. But I've seen some of the charecters on youtube and I have no idea what they were thinking, like a priest who has huge cleavage? And the girl with the penguins is wearing some skirt and she looks like shes 5. WTF!

Hm, your going to import RF4? Do you have a NTSC-J 3DS or are you talking about importing it from the US? Anyways I'm going to try to get the PS3 version.. But sadly my PS3 died a few days ago so I'm going to have to save up some money. If I don't get to play RF ToD at launch I'm going to raggggeee.

But yeah RF4 looks great too, I'm really confused on how they're going to do the farming.

It seems like they don't have 3x3 squares for farming anymore. Everything is uneven, and as you can see there's some onion thing the size of a square. Besides that the whole "Prince System" seems real nice too.

Demon's Souls = Favourite RPG of all time.

Oblivion = Favourite WRPG of all time.

Disgaea 3 = Favourite SRPG of all time.

Dark Souls + Skyrim + Disgaea 4 = RPG heaven.

Not likely I'm much more interested in other things out of japan *namely xenoblade..etc* and I've played disgaea 1 and 2 dont really need to play the same exact scenarios, gameplay and such.

Sjrpg are one genre that sorely needs to evolve.

I don't think so, I believe it's going to be the games feature thats unique from every other RF game. Here's a news article about it, from that article it doesn't sound like it stops.
