I think they'll hurt it more than do good.
Pushing advertisements.
Shoddy hardware quality and refusing free repairs.
First party peripherals with inflated pricing.
Pay to play online leads to most expensive console, suddenly no big deal?
Heavy influence on american media.
Delaying content of competitors instead of doing something creative with their time.
Transferred all risks of game development to developer.

If it wasn't for MS I wouldn't be doing very much gaming, as far as games I want to play Sony really dropped the ball with the PS3. My original fat upgraded 20 GB PS3 is still waiting.

Yah, Like MS aren't matching them $4$. If the rumoured specs leak recently, rings true, those consoles will retail near $900. I also wouldn't be supprised if either claim extra costs in game dev & try to make you pay $120 a game.

Do we need Microsoft in the video game industry in order for the industry to advance and not become stagnant?

Personally, i feel Sony and Nintendo are enough.

What do you think?

Well, that depends. Would you have wanted a PS3 with no RSX? Because if it wasn't for Microsoft, Sony would've simply used an additional Cell processor as a GPU, and PS3 games wouldn't have looked much better than Wii games.. In other words, competition drives innovation, and pushes companies to make their systems more powerful. So anyone that wants Sony or Microsoft out of the console market is an idiot, especially since Nintendo has completely given up on trying to make decently powerful consoles...

I'm assuming that you meant Sony right there>? Because people who got the RROD got free replacements from Microsoft. No receipt required, no questions asked, no hassle whatsoever. Even people with modded or opened 360's got free replacements. MS overnighted me a box to send my console back in, and I received a new console before weeks end.. Most people who got the YLOD had to buy new PS3's. And almost all launch PS3's did eventually get the YLOD btw...

they sell overpriced proprietary accessoriesEddie-Vedder
You mean like Sony with the $99 move bundle? The $30 navigation controller? The Move wands for $50? With 4 required for some two player games? Didn't they cause everybody else to start charging $60 for games?

It cost $100 for a repair. It happened to me in 2011. The PS1 and PS2 had high failure rates yet Sony charged for repairs. Yet somehow that's never mentioned......

Only people who can't appreciate good art speedrun journey but you're a Lem so you probably suffer from ADHD and your brain is unable to appreciate finest things like that game. So you focus on mindless shooting. Halol lasts 4 hours. $60 / 4 = $15 that means you paid $15 for each hour of an inferior game to journey which means it's less value for your money. Lol lems and their low standards.kuraimen

So I'm a lem with ADHD because I don't think Journey is TEH BEZT GAMERZZ EVAR and I don't want to ride Sony's d!ck like you do even though you don't own any of their systems or any of their products. Let's also not forget that Journey has forced co-op as well, resulting into me being rushed with the game and ending it in 79 minutes. The only way the game can last any longer is if your co-op partner that you're forced to pair up with wants to find the easter eggs in the game. The only way to not get co-op is to disconnect your PS3 from the internet manually. I should know this because unlike you, I have a PS3 and I have played Journey multiple times.
