Here's the problem with most of your theories, your assuming that the 360 and PS3 are better than last gen systems.blingchu55And how is that a problem - I'd consider, and most would probably agree, that the Xbox 360 is a better console - overall - then the Gamecube and the original Xbox.

Well the 360 is by no doubt better than the original XBox, it would be difficult to prove it better than the gamecube or the PS2
edit: i am by no means calling the 360 bad, it's like saying the snes is better than the n64.

It would be difficult to prove that the Xbox 360is better than the Gamecube? I just counted up every single quality title the Gamecube received during it's lifetime on Gamerankings.com - it ended up being 213 titles. (Games which scored above 69.999)
The Xbox 360, from its launch till today has 228 titles which have scored above 69.999% - so, in conclusion, considering the Xbox 360 still has a ways to go - it's safe to say that the Xbox 360 is the better console when it comes to the library of games.
However, if you can name any other feature the Gamecube did better than the Xbox 360 - please, amuse me.

No worries fellow SW poster, I would never use the inaccurate and despicable SW animal names on anyone, and I'll keep my opinion that Gamecube is still better than 360 atm based on games I like.Hmm... I know this board isn't a fair representation of the entire "Gamer" market, but it's interesting that popular opinion has stated consistantly in the majority that the Wii isn't a satisfactory standalone.

Not that there is anything wrong with Casual gaming and only owning a Wii to play some things you like on it in your limited spare time.

The probelm with that is that you went as low as 69.999% percent, while when we go higher in the numbers to games taht could be considered good....
The gamecube has 17 above 90% while the 360 has 12
And if you wish to cry exclusives

not only this but gamecube has brought us some truly great games, while arguabhly the only thing the 360 has brought us is good online.

Pretty impressive numbers considering I don't like the 360 and all, impressive numbers.
Of course, you know as well as I do that it's possible to put a spin on those numbers, spin the definition of a 'quality title' to get other, more desirable numbers depending on which side of the spectrum you're on. For example, I could spin the definition of a 'quality title' to be a game with a minimum of 20 reviews scoring an average of 80.000% on GameRankings, resulting in 106 (Gamecube) to 90 (360). I'll admit it's on it's way, but it's not there yet. I could put another spin and say it has to be an exclusive as well and define an 'exclusive' as a game that wasn't available on other systems that generation. I could also pull the "GameSpot only" card.
You can see where this is going.
most opinion i've heard of this board from those who own both the wii and another console claim that the other console is the console of choice.

I'll note that the Wii makes a fun party system, if you like Mario Party, Wario Ware, Smash Bros, Boom Blox, Mario Kart, and everything else that they make for fun times. If you entertain your friends a lot, or have a family, the Wii is an excellent system to have around.
That seems to be its purpose, it's niche, as it were.
However, when it comes to single player, there's a whole lot more offered on other platforms. The PC is still an option if you have something against getting another console of course.

True, but what are the numbers when you look at 80% and above? thats the deal breaker for me.imo, if the 360 is even within 15 games then its arguably already better considering its been out less than 3 years with a few years to go.
Bottom line, the Wii is different and cannot be compared. But if you must, it's obvious that the 360/PS3 are better.
The Wii has few good games, but third party support is starting to pick up.
The Wii is graphically and technically inferior, but they know soccer moms don't give a crap.
The motion-sensing aspect is only fun in some games, otherwise you could use a regular controller (if it were compatible) and get the same results.

90 for the xbox and 106 Gamecube :D :D
Why are people still debating this? Not NO but HELL NO, the wii is not on the same level as the PS3/360. Anyone not blind can see that. Besides my opinion=fact. bubuuu the gamecube is better than the 360, give me a break, lets count games on a 2yr old system vs a 6 or 7 year system, huh which system do you think has more games???? Duhh.......... The old nin is gone face it.lolkie_81
You really haev to read the last page or two to get why were talking about the gamecube...

Obvious is an opinion

I don't see how that is against the wii...

Saying the wii has better graphics than teh 360/ps3 would eb a lie, but the tech can be debated. The wii remote has high tec motion snesy stuff and what not, but consider this. Is it easier to make twice the power of a gamecube in half the space or 10x the power of a ps2 in 10x the space? It's teh difference between adding another motor and making a better one.
The motion-sensing aspect is only fun in some games, otherwise you could use a regular controller (if it were compatible) and get the same results.
The wii remote enhances the controls to a degree that would be really big if expressed in numbers for alot of games. Motion Zelda contorls are 10X better than old controls, MoHH2 and MP3 have some of the best controls ever, and it basically opens a new demension for innovation, while better graphics open a new demenision for making a slightly better version of the same old thing

Wow, this is the most false statement in the entire thread. The others have more solid single player experiences? Really? Are you talking about Halo 3's incredible 10 hour single player mode? Are you talking about generic FPS game that can be finished in 10 hours or less? What great single player experiences are there?
This is not to say that there are none since GTAIV and MGS4 are there, but the Wii has some great single player experiences as well. In fact, you can say that the Wii has the best single player experience out of the 3 consoles. You have SMG, MP3, Super Paper Mario, No More Heroes, etc.

I want to disagree with you on the fact that so many more games on the 360 and PS3 are higher rated. But I own more Wii games than 360 or PS3. Then again I will always own all the systems due to the fact I could not be without Nintendo first party games.
My post wasn't entirely against the Wii, but discussing some of the main issues (i.e technology, motion sensing "gimmick", games/lack thereof etc.)
And I didn't think I had to put IMO every single time I made a statement to avoid being a fanboy.
Indeed, and of course a spin could be put on anything to make any thing or one look rather inferior or such. Lol. That's always the excuse isn't it? "The purpose of the game is to have fun and be entertained."
Sire, that's the primary objective of every single software in the entertainment business. People need to learn to recognize and acknoledge the true art of game desighn. You cant expect a dev team to spend millions of money and years developing a game to be in good shape and quality, and then have some shallow "pathetic excuse for Next-gen" game come in an take the crown, with the excuse of fun and innovation as boost." Oh sure the games sell a lot. Oh WOW. Who gives a crap? We get it; the wii outsells everything. Now, where are the cool games?
MP3 is the only game on the wii I respect; the rest....
Honestly, sometimes I think we gamers have too much control over whether a game is successfull or not. It's not fair to the devs who spend lots and lots of money and time, creating these softwares.
You have SMG, MP3, Super Paper Mario, No More Heroes, etc.
Zhengi
That pretty much sums it up right there, which is the problem; especially if you feel worn out on the Mario and Metroid series from previous generations.
No More Heroes is something else entirally, and it's a something that I loathe.
One of the main issues with the Wii, is that if you're going to make a traditional game, one that would not benifit in the least from Motion controls, it's far better to put it on a platform that will let you make the game look and feel the way you want it to. The Wii is far from State-of-the-art, and MGS4 wouldn't be as impactful, nor would Bioshock, nor would Resident Evil 5 I would venture to say, because atmosphere and detail are some of the great parts of those games.
Resident Evil 5 is potentially a great improvement on RE4 simply because it can present itself more the way the developers imagined it, with fewer restrictions because of Hardware. The Resident Evil director even mentioned that they can finally depict Chris Redfield's age properly, whereas before the hardware capabilities forced him to look younger than he was.
You also have to look at whether the Wiimote couldn't be equally served by a mouse. Zack and Wiki presented a lot of potential, but a lot of the core game could have been point and click with something we've had since the 1980s. That said, I for one would be estatic if they remade Monkey Island or the Quest for Glory series on the Wii.
Because of hardware limitations, the only reason to justify putting something on the Wii from a PURELY artistic standpoint is if you have a game design that needed the Wii controls. Although there have been a few examples of things that couldn't be done better on some other console, a lot of the current games merely use them as a gimmick.
Oh, and looking at the motion sensor as just another button, like say, with swinging Leon's knife in RE4, the PS3's sixaxis has filled that role on several occasions, one example off the top of my head would be Folklore. Although admitedly from an immersion perspective if you were to try this with RE4 (Barring the point and shoot thing), swinging the bulky Sixaxis controller around is less than swinging something that at least remotely resembles a knife.
As a developer, the only reason I would put a traditional game on the Wii would simply be to throw the Wii owners a bone. As an artist with a vision, I would care less if the yapping Wii owners got thier meal or not.
That's not to say I can't come up with several game designs off the top of my head that would work well on the Wii, and only on the Wii. The Wii has a lot of untapped potential, it would just take someone with imagination to pull it off. Maybe someday we'll see a true epic on the Wii, but for now, it has Mario Galaxy.
