I think it is, slightly... I recently beat the game, and I was surprised to say the least. While the last boss did give me some trouble, it didn't take long for me to find out a suitable pattern.  The bosses beforehand were also surprisingly easy... Of the four "story" bosses you need to fight at the end of the game, two of them gave me trouble, and even then, I thought that, compared to some earlier fights, they weren't as tough as I anticipated.

That being said, it's still a tough game... But I think people tend to exaggerate quite a bit.

What says SW?

You might change your mind shortly after firing it up.

I'm not saying the game's not difficult... That's just foolish. Just that many people say that it's borderline impossible, when, inr eality, I played in offline mode and I was still able to beat it.

No not really. The game doesn't really hold your hand like the majority of games do now a days. There isn't much BS in the game either (so long you stick to yourself). It is an unfortunate fresh of new breath.

It might be exaggerated when compared to hard games but when you see that 97.642422% of mainstream games are dumbed down, hand holder, plain out easy, or has bull**** difficulty, it isn't.

I didn't play a huge part of Demon's Souls, but it wasn't as hard as it was frustrating with its checkpoints.

The game is all about information and learning. If you learn from your mistakes the game isn't hard at all... plus there are countless tools and customizations to help you advance through the game in a easy maner. Not only that there is the online option where other people would help you out! only difficult fights on your own are The Four Kings and the Dragon Slayer and Smough. The last boss of the game would have been challenging if you couldn't parry him.

So are there really that many people who would apparently jsut charge on ahead even after dying ten times on an area?

greatly exaggerated. All you need is patience to beat Demon's and Dark Souls but to beat Ninja Gaiden Sigma on master ninja difficulty you need the help of god.

Its hard when you first start off. Once you get used to how to play, it is still pretty challenging but less frustrating. Only a couple bosses are REALLY hard imo, but once you get through like the 60% mark, everything is pretty much smooth sailing from there.

I more or less agree with what you said, although jsut knowing what to do with a boss doesn't always guarantee victory... Still need some skill to get through, adn you need to be very careful.

Yes, while it can be difficult at times it's nowhere near as bad as so many people says. It punish carelessness and manage to give a feeling of satisfaction after overcoming a difficult obstacle.

I think people just suck at it. Some of the boss fights are pretty difficult but summoning people is part of the game.

I am a having a bit of trouble now that it seems to have opened up more.  Last time I played (awhile ago) I ended up walking down a foggy forested path that was throwing massive waterballs (fireball like) at me, to reach the end and realize it was a MASSIVE Hyrdra in a lake, which then devoured me.  yeah....lol.  I also tried going one way earlier on and skeletons keep reviving over and over

Yes to both.  For the skeletons, you need to modify a weapon so that it's holy.  That'll keep them down for good.  For the Hydra, getting closer to it by dodging its attacks on the way there is a good idea.  It eventually starts using physical attacks with its heads, and you can usually find a "sweet spot" where you can stand and attack withouth worrying about getting hit... It's a surprisingly easy enemy when you finally figure out its pattern... But yeah that thing gave me a ton of grief for a while.

They have decent challenge to them but I think they can be a bit exaggerated as far as difficulty.  I found that leveling up enough to a certain point makes it much easier.  Find a farming area, and collect souls, makes game easier.

Definitely. Although the games offer a good amount of challenge and you can't just run up to everything poke it until it dies like other mainstream RPG's, saying it's one of the hardest games ever is pretty exaggerated. That said, I think its difficulty is superbly balanced.

Apparently playing online is easier since players will typically leave markers on sweet spot areas.  I played offline so it was just a ton of trial and error.

You gotta either get a weapon with a holy modifier. (There's one by the undead dragon in the valley of drakes) or kill the necromancers in the same catacomb.

Playing it now, the game isn't too difficult as long as you know where you're supposed to go. As the game doesn't direct you to any specific location, you can find yourself in places you aren't supposed to be in yet, making it seem much more difficult than it actually is.

Can I ask? When you say not hard do you mean you didn't die at all? Or didn't lose that much health? Or could it simply be that you have a higher tolerance for retrying than other people? Often I find that those who say things aren't hard in games struggle as much as those that claim something is hard, the only difference being in expectation and endurance rather than skill.

Just that many people claimed the game is nearly impossible, and I didn't find it to be so.  Once I learned an area, it became much easier.  Granted, I am NOT saying the game isn't hard... It definitey is, just not as hard as some would lead you to believe.

Yes, Hydra is easy to kill. Just come up to her, dodging all its projectiles, stay with Ur shield up and cut its heads when it goes melee. And uh... if someone needs help, pm. Difficulty is exaggerated, game is fair enough, no matter what NG+ cycle U are on. Skeletons die forever if You kill their overlord pyromant somewhere in the area OR if You kill them with Divine Weapon, which is made by Undead Parish Smith (Andre) after U give him divine ember. Divine Weapons kill skeletons instantly.

I think the game itself revolves around it's difficulty, as satisfying as a kill is.

ITT: Everyone has huge testicles.

Goddamn I'm at the point where I can 1 shot the bosses each time because I know exactly what to do, but that doesn't mean I'm calling it an easy fvcking game. It requires a lot of focus and care to successfully play, and if you stop paying attention for even a moment you can get crushed. And that's not even including things like lengthy runs when you come back from death, or players invading your game, or the fact that the game gives you no hints on how to progress or succeed.

What do you mean, nope? He's absolutely right. Losing has become almost non-existent in today's game design. The industry is so big that they want you to buy, finish, and move on to the next game as quickly as possible.

Prince of Persia 2008 was the one where you couldn't die.RyanShazam
Yep, and it came out before The Forgotten Sands, which came out in 2010.[QUOTE="Heirren"] What do you mean, nope? He's absolutely right. Losing has become almost non-existent in today's game design. The industry is so big that they want you to buy, finish, and move on to the next game as quickly as possible.

Once again, nope. Plenty of other games are challenging and difficult in their own ways. Short games doesn't mean a game is easy, and even if they are getting easier, there are plenty of games that are difficult outside of the Souls games that are also AAA blockbusters.

I haven't played Dark but Demons Souls wasn't nearly as hard as everyone made it out to be, actually it wasn't hard at all once you know what every new enemy would do, once you figured out their pattern it was easy.

The only thing exaggerated about the series is how good they are.
