Does Gamespot posses the strength to give GoW Halo:R FF13 a score below AAA...?

THIS IS NOT A GAMESPOT BASH THREAD!!!! not by a long shot. Im actually sympathizing with them. At this point we all know that FF13 wont be the mega life changing hit its hype machine wanted us to believe it would be... Its Metacritic score is below 90 and Im sure its a great game. My question is wether big review outlets like Gamespot and IGN will feel the pressure to give the game AAA status so as not to alienate a massive fanbase that may not agree with the score and thus stop visiting the website.

Personally I believe Gamespot has the stones to review it straight up. They got honest with the zelda fanbase a few years ago, right? It will be interesting to see how the review shakes out. IGN will buckle.

Oh and since im editing... it is highly possible and likely in some respect that the games are actually AAA. Final Fantasy is only mentioned because it currantly is not AAA.

IGN only hands out a score lower then 9, when they have no choice. Gamespot is a wildcard.

What if they actually like the game enough to give it AAA status? That isn't an impossibility you know.

If they do give it AAA, is Gamespot just falling into the hype or doing it for the masses or could it possibly be that they enjoy the title?

This game wouldnt be getting 7/10 scores if it wasnt a FF game. If it were a new IP or something people would judge it differently and would give it a 9/10 or even more. Drakes_Fortune

if its a crappy story then yeah. I dont understand why FF is considered the greatest RPG series to this day. I've played some better RPGs with better story and are far beyond cliche stories and horrible "I love you" dialogues

i think they don't, because there is no way that gta 4 would have been AAAA, it was just too repetitive for that

They did it to Twilight Princess. Anything is possible. I personally predict a 8.5/10 for GoWIII, 8.0-8.5 for FFXIII (given how poorly JRPG's have been recieved here recently) and 8.5/10 for Halo: Reach (depending on how much it changes the series).

I don't know why, but I get the feeling that only FF13 will score only below AAA (8.5 out of 10). Both Halo and GoWIII will be AAA, probably 9.0 out of 10.

Final Fantasy might not be AAA in the critics eyes, but it can be AAA to you, just play games and enjoy.

tbh, IGN does have fare scores, like the score for Mass Effect which scored only 8.5 but at IGN scored 9.6 i think Wings_008

Gamespot flopped Twilight Princess, Mass Effect, Fable 2, MGS3, they docked the PS3 version of Fallout 3 by .5, they gave out three different scores for Dragon Age, and they slapped the PS3 Bayonetta with a full 1.0 difference from the 360 version... I would say they have the balls to flop anything. If those games don't deserve AAA scores, they won't get them. However, I don't think it's very likely that any of those three games will be less than AAA quality in their respective genres. Hahadouken

You can't judge Reach or GoW tho. The other games in their series(besides maybe ODST) were easily AAA games.

GS can do whatever they like to all those games except Halo, they can't underrate bungie, ODST got a 9, A FREAKING 9!!! Reach will not get lower than 9.5 even if the disc in the copy they received was replaced with someone's feaces.

Perhaps in an alternative reality, but speaking in relative terms? No.

Promoting Fable 3, Halo: Reach, or Alan Wake (the only 3 exclusives being released for the Xbox 360 this year) to anything below an AAA status is essentially suicidal.

If there is one game on that t that Gamespot might give a score below an 8.5 it's Final Fantasy XIII because it is not a hotly anticipated exclusive. GoW3 and Halo: Reach will definitely get 9.0's or higher, though.

Are those real predictions, or your possible flop predictions? I would be shocked if a single one of those scores was correct. More likely, imo, God of War 3 9.0, FFXIII 9.5 and Halo Reach a 9.0... but who knows. Hahadouken

Ever since GS adopted their new scoring system the span gets overexaggerated by we fanboys. Games that score 9.0 today would have scored anywhere from 8.7-9.4. I prefer using Metacritic to determine an all-around score since takes the best and the worst interviews and slams them together to create a numerical consensus on a game's performance. If GS does hand out a AA to one of those franchises, I would anticipate it being FF13 or possibly Halo:Reach, but seeing that they still gave ODST AAA status probably indicates it's not very likely. Still, I hate judging on pretenses that the game before was good which means the next game will be better, hell look at what DMC2 turned into from DMC. Doesn't always happen.

They'll give each game the rating it deserves. If their opinion agrees with the majority of users hereis yet to be seen.

FF13, the game will probably be one of the best RPG and one of the most ambitious games of this gen. I think you meant the anti-hype machine. The negative feedback from certain fanboys who consider SE a traitor have shifted overall opinion for the game and unsurprisingly enough, it may not get AAA because certain websites appear to want to appease the most fanbo... I mean gamers.
