Doom Hype Thread

My friend, i never expect this game to recieve 10s because i know jounralist are joke nowadays. just look at how polygon suck at playing it because it has no aim down the sight. they complain about multiplayer. Steam reviews are what that matter its its 93% positive. its Old school hardcore shooter and ciritics are used to of Modern warfare. If Cancelled Doom 4 released now i bet it would recieve more higher score because that game resemble COD with mulitple NPC and follow orders.

I dont play scores but games. so Doom is indeed better than MGS5, witcher 3, UC4 or any other 10 rated GS game.

You don't need more than 72 hours to review a 12 hour SP game with tacked on MP, anything more is being lazy.

Everyone just needs to buy the game with the pre notion that it's a lot of action with enemies in arenas.....no fuss with too much story. Strictly balls to the wall action pick up and play game.

If that's not your thing don't get it.

But don't rely on the reviews.

The point is that sometimes critics opinions on a game do not line up with users/players. While DOOM is doing ok with critics, it's being praised massively by users around the internet.

I finally use a Redbox machine and some reason I picked DOOM as my 1st ever rental. So far, the Campaign is exactly what you're describing.

The MP beta was OK and now the retail copy with more modes I had some fun.

88 on PC Gamer, which was the last hold-out in my professional reviews checklist. Still holding strong at 92% on Steam reviews. Ars Technica, who tend to be harsh as hell, also like it.

lots of times critics opinions don't line up with the general audience, it's because it's their critics. It's not an injustice, albeit sure 1 or 2 of the reviews come off as a basic misunderstanding of how anything works in that game. More importantly, it's not even getting mediocre reviews, it's batting an 80. That's hardly a low score.

I'd think so, save for the 7.1 at IGN, who always tend to be a bit eccentric, and I've always considered them to be a "second tier" reviewer in my checklist.

I found one negative thing about the game, they want us to find secrets which may need backtracking...just that parts of some maps you cant go back to so you need restart whole level...

Loving the Game, Graphics are not exactly stellar but the gameplay rocks, it's nice to be playing a decent twitch shooter again.

Aiming down the Sights is for Noobs, Circle Strafing is where it's at.

Downloaded and installed, then played a few minutes to make sure it works.

Died instantly.

Gah. The game threw me into a fight without giving me a chance to adjust my mouse sensitivity properly. After I jacked it up to 5.5, however, I started to do things I learned in my years playing Unreal Tournament 2004; jump-strafing, dodging projectiles, pulling off reflex shots, etc.

The game runs buttery smooth on High on my Z77 system with a GTX 970, though it's still early days. I'm quite tempted to switch to Ultra, but I fear I don't have enough system RAM. The glory kills are already getting old on me, but at least they're good for conserving ammo.

Then I picked up my first Doomguy figurine. As it started playing a version of the old E1M1 track at me, I felt like I'm going to like this game in the end.

But first, time to sleep.

So, finally got done with my Ultra-Violent playthrough, really added some padding to this game. Just the right difficulty to give me a challenge but not go pulling all my hair out over. I highly recommend. Downside is I'm looking at my library of action games right now and everything just seems so.... well, dull. I think the worst thing about Doom is it might have ruined everything else for me, for the time being.

some people are gluttons for punishment, nightmare is the mode that awaits me next but ultra nightmare you have to beat it in one go without dying, there's certain challenges like that I just don't bother with, so props to those that not only try but also succeed

The guy is crazy for actually doing it on the hardest difficulty.

In the first minute you can see like a half dozen grave markers of places he died in previous playthroughs, LOL, in just the first and easiest section. Keep watching you see more. Basically if you don't know when you play Ultra Nightmare it will mark any place you've died along your journey, and the more I watch I keep seeing those spots. I kind of feel like watching more of this just to see where else he died because the farther in I can just imagine each new marker I see was like a raging failure moment, especially the farther in they are.

Bringing this back to say, I'm about 90% through the campaign on Ulta-Violent and this game is stupendous. The levels, the sound (even though I've had two occasionans where the music cut out and I had to close and reopen the game to get the music back) the feel of destruction at your hands after you get to Hell the first time.

Just the feeling of joy and pride after you wipe an entire room clean of Knights, Barons, Revenants, Imps having used five or six different weapons depending on the occasion. Having run around the entire area you are fighting in to pick up health, armor and more ammo -- or not having to because you get everything you need from Glory Killing the demons.

I am completely blown away by this game. Beautiful, violent, unrellenting, difficult (without being punishing, which is very rare), loud...Id did an amazIng job with the Doom campaign.

I'm 16 hours in and just got to the Lazarus Labs. Why? Because I recently wiped out half of my progress and restarted Act 2 in Dragon Age II all because I forgot to buy one ring. I'm a perfectionist, and I must have all the secrets, all the collectibles, all the challenges and all the upgrades. I... ...just... ...must.

So far, it's the most fun I've had playing an FPS since Far Cry 3, and that was a different kind of fun. Taking a break to play something slower so I don't burn myself out, but will play more later.

Finished my first playthrough on Ultra-Violence with a total of 14 hours logged. id definitely made an amazing video game here, one of hte best FPSs I've played in a while...probably since BioShock Infinite.

The game reminds me of Hardcore Henry. It's a lot of fun. I played 2 multiplayer matches... It's ok, but with Overwatch coming out in 1 day I am not even going to try to get into it.

^ Ultra-Violence first play through took me 14 hours, too. Missed one argent container and a handful of other stuff but I can't be arsed to go back to find them. Had some random CTD's that were a little annoying. Haven't had that in a PC game for like 5 years now, was a little surprised.
