  • DirectX 12 reduces CPU overhead significantly compared to DirectX 11, offering up to 50% CPU and 20% GPU performance gains on existing PC hardware.
  • Star Wars: Battlefront is the first DirectX 12 title on Xbox One

Already cancelled my pre-order. lol!! DICE and EA can't program a decent game on Next-Gen consoles even after almost 2 years of programming on it. The fact that they didn't even try to use the Cloud Tech or DX12 with this online only game, just shows us that they really don't care, as long as the Star Wars brand sells millions of copies for them. What a disaster this game turned out to be. Definitely not worth the $60. Gamers who buy the PS4 bundle are going to be in for a rude surprise. I smell another FLOP coming.

@lamprey263 said:

the game rolls out about the same time the big Xbox One update takes place, part of me wonders if the reason it got a 720p beta is because the demo is made to run on the current OS which can't use DX12,and the system update that allows for DX12 utilization doesn't even come into the picture until next month with the system overhaul, if that is indeed the case then it makes sense they'd not bother optimizing the game more just for the Xbox One beta, and instead use the 720p build to address game functionality

@blackace said:

Go back and read the article again. lol!! The latest SDK update includes Win 10 and the full version of DX12. Microsoft said they would be sending out the updates to devs near the end of July. Don't take this as confirmation. We'll just wait and hear from the other 25-30 developers after they get their SDK updates. El Tormo will be doing a LOT of damage control in this thread. lol!! DX12 does nothing!!! LMAO!!

@ronvalencia

It is confirmed now by MS SWBF is the first true DX12 game on xbox one, which mean last holiday DX12 was already on xbox one, which mean both PS4 and XBO were using better multithreading, which mean both were under equal footing.

The PS4 code not only was faster but also had higher resolution to,so at the end of the day after all the cries of DX12 will change things and after seeing Ronvalencia make a fool on him self defending MS weak hardware and Blackace actually claiming that Dice didn't know how to code a game and that they didn't use DX12 is good to once and for all put this to rest also to @StormyJoe which for years claimed DX12 would help the xbox one,in the end it didn't the gap is here to stay and will never go away the PS4 will be faster than the xbox one even when DX12 is use and even when the PS4 also has a resolution advantage.

I don't see anything that says it's currently DirectX 12, most games are getting a post release update until real development actually begins in the API. The very act of saying "Star Wars: Battlefront is the first DirectX 12 title on Xbox One" doesn't mean it's using the API currently, it could very well be DirectX 11 just like it is on PC.

There's no games on Xbox One currently using DirectX 12, Battlefront getting an update would still make it the first DirectX 12 game on Xbox One.

With the gap already getting smaller, it is of no surprise that DX12 will continue that trend of reducing the gap. This is great news for all gamers.

So where is the link stating that it will be by patch.?

Because the one i posted clearly say it is a DX12 game not it will be patch for DX12.

Not it means that it will be DX12 4 years from now right.?

It's a vague single line that will need to be clarified, but it currently being DirectX 12 doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Why is the PC version DirectX 11 first and foremost but the Xbox One version is DirectX 12 for some odd reason? That in and of itself doesn't make a lick of sense, not to mention they can say "is the first" if they know it's going to be the first title on the device using DirectX 12.

To add to that further, Battlefront released on the 17th of November, the Xbox One Windows 10 update which houses the DirectX 12 API was not made mandatory until the 23rd of the month, 6 days later, this doesn't add up.

Phil Spencer already stated this a long time ago that DX12 won't change nor improve Xbox One. This is hardly new news here.

All DX12 on Xbox One will do is support their Unified Platform. It won't improve game performance enough to be noticeable.

It doesn't make sense because it didn't produce the results they expected. They seem to believe that DX12 will somehow make the Xbox perform better than its hardware allows.

I'll address you both in this post and that will be the end of it.

It doesn't make sense because everything points to it not being the case currently, performance increases or the lack thereof isn't even a talking point here for me. PC is the flagship for Frostbite, all of their technology is developed around and for it, why would the Xbox One version of the game be DirectX 12 yet not the PC version? Also like was already clearly stated, the API wasn't even forced to be on the console until 6 days after the game came out yet people were playing it..

If Battlefront got a post release update it would still be the first Xbox One game with DirectX 12, there's nothing else currently. Look at it this way, say there's 5 games coming to the Xbox One that will be DirectX 12 enabled in the next 6 months, one is already released with DirectX 11 support and the other four will release at staggered dates months after. If that released game is planned to get a DirectX 12 update before the other four DirectX 12 games release, wouldn't that make it the first DirectX 12 game on Xbox One even though it doesn't have it yet?

The answer is an absolute yes, it's unarguably yes, meaning you can't argue that point so don't even bother trying.

That line in the slide doesn't mean it currently has it, it just means it's the first DirectX 12 game on Xbox One, as there's nothing else with DirectX 12 on Xbox One it's to be seen what that line actually means, is it current or an update, they need to specify. Until then it's a bunch of speculation on both sides and I'm not going to sit here and argue with you cows with a lack of information available.

It's obviously not DX12 yet. EA & DICE would have said something a long time ago if it was. Most likely it's going to be patch. If it is using DX12, it's not using the full version. Doesn't make any sense that out of the blue SWB is all of a sudden DX12, but the PC version isn't. That's just dumb. Like someone else said, more clarification will be needed on this. The first DX12 game on XB1 was Fable Legends. That was on XB1 before SWB was released. El Tormo still having meltdowns I see. lmao!! You're going to have a heart attack worrying about what others say this forum.

I was actually more interested in this little paragraph on Microsoft's presentation.

  • UWP app support will be implemented on Xbox One in summer 2016. Developers that are writing an UWP app on Windows 10 today can be confident that it will run on Xbox One. The vast majority of the code is directly portable across devices, leaving developers time to optimize the code for the unique capabilities and control schemes of each device.

Any PC apps or game using UWP has a chance to come to the XB1. It's going to be YYHHUUUGGEE!!

Back to the point I made above. DX12 is not used to provide better performance on Xbox One, but to make it compatible with their new unified platform. The game could have also been DX12 feature flagged, which would have enabled it to use DX12 when it became available. I believe DX12 was partially present on the Xbox One before as well, though I could be wrong about that.

Dude, go cry to Phil Spencer. MS clearly stated publicly PUBLICLY at GDC, not in some caffe bar, but at GDC that Battlefront is a FIRST DX12 game on Xbone. And also Xbone also has DX12 features almost 2 years now.

Lems are unbeliavable. Phil Spencer said that DX12 won't bring any improvements to Xbone, no, Phil Spencer is wrong, lems disagree. MS said that Battlefront is FIRST DX12 game on Xbone, no, MS is wrong, lems disagree. Lems are hilarious as ****.

You don't say...

DX12 is equally good for Ps4 as it is for Xbone since a lot of developers weren't coding "to the metal" on Ps4 and their games were pretty much PC ports.

Weren't most of dx12 features already on the xbone? The potential gains being bigger on PC

No not most only a few features , major features that X1's API DX11.X was missing was full async/ACE support and true multithreading communication from cpu to gpu. Which is the biggest additions, there are other resources saving features in DX12 that DX 11.X does not have. Once games are produced from the ground up for DX12 X1 will see performance boost over DX11.X but at the same time PS4 will see the advantages from DX12 in multiplats as well.

I own both systems so I don't give a $h1t! Lemmings need lives as they are all still gripping over "_____ will close the gap" trash 2 years later!! Grow up and get a job so that you can buy both consoles!!

There are cheaper paperweights than a redundant $400 XBone.

...like this one:

Also FTFY.

Is a simple line because it needs no clarification,it clearly say the first DX12 game was SWBF3,in no place it say it will be by patch or that latter on it will be patched,so basically and as always you are grasping.

So either link me or stop your DC.

BF4 used async shaders on PS4 before the PC version did, which was latter patch for mantle on PC,so it means nothing.

The problem is that like i have being saying the whole windows 10 crap was only symbolic async shader were expose on xbox one since summer 2014,the fact that no game use it mean shit, the PS4 support async shaders since day 1,and 99% of its games don't use async shaders.

There's no gap. PS4 is also a 900p console lol. A shit tone of games are 900p or like Uncharted 4 MP which looks like Uncharted 3 MP.

PS4 power is used for nothing cuz theres no gap unless u want ugly ass games that PS4 has like Firewatch/ No mans sky/ Tearaway (flop) knack/ Until Boredom ( No gameplay) GOW3 & Uncharted Lazy Port ( Looks like PS3 versions) Gravity Rush (Awwe no one bought it lol) SF5 (cell shaded looks like a Telltale Games games lol) Anime garbage etc etc all look like ass on PS4. Bu..bu power? Bu...bu 900p is only on XB1 lol. PS4 is 900p Lower your standards

SWBF3 is 720p on xbox one so yeah there is a gap...

LINK as simple as that mine very clear say SWBF3 is the first DX12 games, that game was release already and there is nothing about a patch, you and your other account NyaDC are the ones claiming this without a single source.

Meltdown.? Did you even read my quote of you in the OP.? You claimed Dice didn't know how to code.. hahaha

Hahaha all because the xbox one can't match the PS4 on a game, funny thing is Dice is like the first developer to actually code to mantle which is DX12 but from AMD..lol

UWP has nothing to do with SWBF being a DX12 game dude nice spin...lol

So you posting something that Phil has said quite a few times in the past, good job.

Oh look another of those who made fun of my DX12 arguments..hahahaaa

I'll address you both in this post and that will be the end of it.

, why would the Xbox One version of the game be DirectX 12 yet not the PC version? Also like was already clearly stated, the API wasn't even forced to be on the console until 6 days after the game came out yet people were playing it..

The answer is an absolute yes, it's unarguably yes, meaning you can't argue that point so don't even bother trying.

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=760268

Mantle release for BF4 on January 2014,on PS4 it was since day 1 when the game release on 2013,so how could that be if PC is the flagship for Frostbite.? The PS4 got async shader before PC how is that possible.?

No is not you want to make it look that way,so link or GTFO..lol
