Although the implication is that the BioWare MMORPG is an original IP, Riccitiello and his associates steered clear of saying so specifically. He did say that the deal will make EA the owner of the Mass Effect, Jade Empire, Mercenaries, Full Spectrum Warrior, and Saboteur properties. The executive also said that EA "expect[s] to bring 10 franchises to market in the next few years; six of which are wholly owned." No mention was made of Dragon Age, BioWare's little-seen fantasy title.

As much as I don't like the xbox 360 I honestly feel bummed out for you guys.EA turns everything really really butted if you know what I mean. The good thing though is that they won't officially own it till january and the game comes out this year unless EA decides to delay it or something but I highly doubt that.

But can EA publish a PS3 version ? Thats the question.

Yes, they will own the rights to the game. Also, any contractual obligations may be voided once EA acquires Bioware in January.

I can't help but feel bummed, I hate EA, why Bioware? Why not some other dev, but Bioware? They had so much talent.

RIP Bioware, we barely new ye.

Maybe I'm going overboard, but still, EA blows.

That's what happens, a good company puts out some heavy hitters, then EA comes flying in on their magical unicorn with bags of money and Scooby-Doo themed Push-Up's and steals them away.

Ive taken a few business classes and for a few weeks we studied contracts and things like that and yes you are right EA bought the company and all the contracts that came with it. the only way they can get out of the contratcs is by paying MSFT off and that wont happen.

I'm guessing you're not a lawyer, because that's one of the dumbest things I've ever heard. Just because a company transfers ownership doesn't mean that any existing contracts with other parties are null and void. If you thought about your statement a little bit you'd realize what a legal nightmare that would be. Cerberus, after buying Chrysler, could say to all of its labor union employees, "oh sorry, but you know that contract that your union had with us, well we're going to void that contract."

So, as you can see, you don't know what you're talking about.

For one, they were never publishing the game in the first place, microsoft was, but now that EA owns them, technically we could see a Mass Effect game for the PS3 or PC, that is, considering the limitations to the contract of course.

The deal is closing in January and Mass Effect is coming out this November. Nothing is changing with the Xbox 360 launch of the title, but there is a possibility of it coming to another console in the future. After January, it's EA's call.

Also I like how Cows seem to think that Bioware will churn out a PS3 version of Mass Effect by January! You guys are acting like you won a contest here or something. If EA wants to publish a PS3 version of Mass Effect, it will be atleast 6 months before Bioware can port it over to the PS3 atleast. You do remember that the PS3 chip set is totally different from the 360's. So it wont be just like slapping Mass Effect onto a PS3 disc!!! So by the time that PS3 owners get their hands on Mass Effect, 360 owners will have finished it atleast twice and will have probably moved on!!! So congrats PS3 owners on getting the 360's sloppy seconds!
