Apparently there will be NO modding tools for BF3
Its not something I've worked with, but this could be a turn off for a lot of users.

Don't blame consoles. Blame EA and DICE and, to some point, Activision. If it wasn't for DLC and map packs, mod tools would be in here.

Lol I like your style. But seriously, before PC gamers go ape**** just take a look at the documentation on why BC2 didn't have mod tools.

Frostbite is simply not made for modding. It is way too complex and runs on uncompressed data located on servers around the world.
BF3 would only get harder to cater for, since it is a more advanced version of FB.
consoles are to blame SAGE_OF_FIREGreed is to blame. Why give the community mod tools when you can sell them map packs? The engine is to blame, like Frostbite 1.5 from BC2, it simply isn't plausible to try to make a mod editor for it.

It's heartbreaking to see PC gamers being so ignorant and blaming consoles for every little problem that occurs.
Dice..you just made a big mistakelawlessx
I agree. Even consolized games like Skyrim and Rage are getting mod tools, some even day 1. Yet they can't give us mod tools for this game? Way to go DICE, there goes your 10 from me.
The only game that i want mod tools is Duke Nukem Forever.
markko84
The community is already working on that. They've been working on unpackers, ect before it was even released. Gearbox has been mute on word of mod tools.

PC version better be damm near prefect at launch or they may never hear the end of it.
Dice..you just made a big mistakeChubbyGuy40

You think making mod tools is easy peesy? You think that ontop of that, if they release internal tools that there will even be a mod community? Don't make me laugh. Read up on the subject and don't be so uninformed. http://kotaku.com/5485700/bad-company-2-devs-have-nothing-but-love-for-the-modding-community

Dice..you just made a big mistakelawlessx

Didn't think that, never stated it. When you think about it, DICE does not love them that much unless it makes them money. Desert Combat was a mod and they hired that team to help create Battlefield 2, and dumped them before the game was released so they didn't get credit for it.
With the crowd Battlefield draws, yes there would be a modding community. It's absolutely stupid to think otherwise. FFS there are games that never got mod tools and still had a modding community.
Maybe in the future? I still believe in Dice. BF2 was amazingCoolSkAGuy
As long as they can sell DLC, mod tools ain't happening. This is EA.

Well technically the consoles are to blame. Frostbite is a console engine. While 2.0 seems like a significant revision, it is still plagued by the same problems that made frostbite 1.0 and 1.5 unable to have mod tools. Mainly due to middleware licencing and system stability issues outside of a developer environment.
Though in saying that, it's more fault of the developers for whatever poor design and architecture choices they made when making the engine.

I read it, but Frostbite 2 is a new engine. BC1 ran off FB1 and BC2 ran off Fb1.5. Why did they not fix the structure to support mod tools?

Well...that doesn't quite make sense because of Crysis 2.
I'm not blaming consoles here. While I agree that many well known PC exclusive series are now going to consoles and not showing the true potential of the pc hardware, it is really Dice and EA to be blamed. Even Crytek released modding tools for their Cryengine 3 and that engine was on consoles too.

I don't think the Crysis 2 DLC sold very well on PC. For a game like Battlefield, they have to expect any DLC to sell millions and giving players the ability to remake map packs for everyone is the worst business idea they could think of.
Damn you, consoles, damn you.
BF3 on PS3 for me
mrmusicman247Joke? PC is still superior ya know? Anyway, to those people who say consoles are to blame is correct. DLC on consoles sell like hot cakes and not so much on PC. So... it makes sense why they made that decision. Blame consoles and greed, it's the combination of both not just one.

Wow...some of the pc gamers here...so it's suddenly DICE's fault? Do you know how hard it is to make modding tools especially with the Frostbite 2 engine and how it streams data quickly in order for it to work? It's way too complex because if they create modding tools, they must also incorporate destruction, and all of the other features that the engine has. This isn't your run-of-the-mill easy mod kind of thing. This game is turning out fantastic, there's no need to complain about modding tools. I thought it was clear that this game wasn't going to have the modding tools, but no. Now the pc gamers are going to start boycotts and complaining because they don't get to sit on the royal crown and be treated as king. There are no modding tools, and the game is fantastic. Get over it.
P.S. I'm not talking about those of you who are joking saying "it's consoles fault" :P I'm talking about the pc gamers who suddenly perceive this to be DICE's fault, call them lazy, claim that they're not gonna like it, not gonna buy the game, etc. etc.
