Actually, no it won't."Unreal Tournament 3, the sequel to PC shooter favourite, will not have connectivity between PC and PS3.
Mark Rein, VP of Epic games, confirmed that, initially, their will be no cross platform multiplayer. The reason? According to Mr Rein; "The biggest challenge in doing cross platform play is [synchronizing] the builds such that the build on the PC is 100% compatible with the build on the PS3".
This is due somewhat to the 'certification' process when making something for a console, i.e., Sony would have to sign off on any patches and updates etc, where as on the PC, the patches don't have as many checks.
"[This] would not be in the best interests of our very loyal PC user base, because we would constantly be holding on to updates to wait until they passed cert on the console platform" said Mr Rein.
Apparently though, when the game has 'settled down', i.e., post-release issues being fixed, Epic may consider cross platform play, although according to Mr Rein,"even then the likelihood is small"."
And since when is UT3 a PS3 exclusive? It's launching at the same time as the PC version and we all know that if a game is on the PC and one other console, it's not exclusive.
First of all, I'd like a source and a date. I know that they said they couldn't at first because it didn't seem doable, but recently, they said they could get around the problem.
Second of all, as long as it sells on the PS3, as opposed to the 360, it doesn't matter if it's on the PC because it's still succeeding in market penetration before MS.
