I'm just trying to make sure I understand the anger...and if it's directed towards consoles somehow handicapping it or if it's just for Bethesda.

Hewkii

bit of both. most of it is just at Bethesda, but there's also not realizing the potential that a PC could offer over consoles (because of the "you can't tell the difference" statement).

I guess I'm asking this: could they do a "true Fallout game" on a console? Or does the controller limit that ability?

Because if it can be done on a console, shouldn't there only be venom for Bethesda's design approaches and not console bashing?

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat!!!

Why wasn't this game created for the soon to be released 10200 NVidia N Series graphics cards. Doesn't Bethesda know that the card can literally push 3 trilliion and 1 polygons a second. I know for certain you could have created a fully realised game world with this graphics card. ME and my mate George from down the road were definitely going to buy one just for this game. It's disgusting how Bethesda have sold out. I hope they enjoy their millions from their kidbox flop60, because I for one and my mate George from down the road won't be buying it.

Bethesda is dead to me now. Excuse me while I continue my endless quest to tweak Crysis' config to push a few more frames. Soon I will realise my dream.

Hoobinator

Absolutely 100% how I feel about the whole "PC is better" thing.

Its just ridiculous, drop it already.

I honestly don't know, as I've never played Fallout. however, how the game is structured and what most of the complaints seem to be about suggest that it may be possible to do a port with minimal changes to the actual game.

Okay, I see Hermits having a damn Cow in here and I don't know why.

Since I don't know anything about Fallout, can someone explain to me how making the 360 the lead platform somehow will make the game "fail"?

Coyo7e

That alone doesn't, but Bethesda's willingness to issue thousands of retcons, remove the isometric turn based gameplay, completely not focus on story, and remove the darkhorse humour for their own childish crap basically goes against everything that made Fallout, Fallout.

and did consoles do any of those things?

I'm just trying to make sure I understand the anger...and if it's directed towards consoles somehow handicapping it or if it's just for Bethesda.

It is hermits thinking that they made these company's what they are, and thus these people owe them something.

It is more then a little childish, and its getting old.

....

Go play morrowind, then play oblivion. The same thing will happen to the fallout series. Consolization. Just because fans of the series disagree with the approach bethesda is heading doesnt mean we are childish.

Had you said that years ago when the same thing happened to Deus Ex, people might have been willing to listen. Since then, dozens of franchises have been "casualized" while being jointly developed for consoles. Its a byproduct of people being pissed that so many good names have been destroyed.

"But as this point all three of them are pretty much on par. The goal is that, if I get three versions in here and hide the console or PC and just had them running on the screen, that you wouldn't be able to tell the difference."

Or in other words, we didn't both to take advantage of the PC's inherent graphical capabilities.

Thanks Bethesda, you never fail to disappoint me.

I still play Morrowind, and I love Oblivion.

It is one thing to disagree, another thing to act like they have turned to the dark side of the force.

Morrowind was a Goty on Xbox as well as PC, too. I am a PC gamer (well not anymore I guess, I still like my PC best but I enjoy my consoles, too. But less and less I want to distance myself from PC gamers) I just don't expect games not change to adjust to a changing market.

Get over it.

Well, in a sense yes. But I would say no.

I dl'ed new mods for my PC morrowind just the other day. But Morrowind was great on the Xbox as well.

But remember, Hermits are better people, and especially gamers, then console gamers. So for a game to be made with consoles in mind is like a slap in the face to all the is just and good in this world.

I will light a candle and place it my window to symbolize my somberness over the death of another once great PC franchise.

Question: Why do we care? THe games going to run the saem on 360 and PS3. Bethesda knows how to Code for the PS3, so both versions will run Identical. No differnces.

"The 360 is our lead development platform, so we got it working on that one first," he said. I mean, we develop them all simultaneously, but one of them's got to be the lead, so it was 360."

"We had a year's head start on the 360 because it came out a year earlier, so we had final dev hardware to work with earlier on than we did with PS3," he said. "But as this point all three of them are pretty much on par. The goal is that, if I get three versions in here and hide the console or PC and just had them running on the screen, that you wouldn't be able to tell the difference."

Hugely anticipated action-RPG Fallout 3 will release for PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 this autumn. :D

Just curious, but is anyone who has actually played the first two games actually looking forward to this bastardization of a franchise? It seems like eveyone hyped for this game has no prior experience with the Fallout series. I could be wrong here, just an observation. drnick7
Yes, I've played Fallout. However, even if this is a lousy Fallout game, it's Oblivion with guns, which sounds awesome.

As a PC gamer, this has to be one of the more painful lines from the passage, knowing that the PC version is going to look the same as the cosole versions. Hopefully, this statement didn't take in the possible considerations for video options in the PC version.

Yeah seriously.. but I'm pretty sure we're all smart enough to realize that Besthesda is full of it. Take a platform that's twice as powerful as the PS3 and 360 and you'll be able to improve draw distances, resolution and anti aliasing levels not to mention high res texture mods of course.

I only hope Bethesda makes a proper, non-console interface for the PC version... which I doubt they will bother doing. They should learn something from Mass Effect, because the Oblivion interface was terrible. I usually don't even care about interfaces as long as they work, but that one was just mind-numbingly painful.

thing is we DID make these companies. They don't owe us but they shouldn't completely throw tradition and factors that made their games classics in the first place to the wayside.

A good game is a good game. Accessability is easily offered with lower difficulty settings.

Personally, I hold hope that it will be a great game. Now, it may not necessarily be a great Fallout game(like Oblivion was a DECENT(not great) game but a horrible Elder Scrolls) but I think it could be a great game.

Also, Vandal, you do know that they do have turn based combat in this game in the form of the VATS right? They specifically added that because certain people among their playtesters were screaming about it before they went public. So, yes there will be turn based as an option. I don't think isometric is there but that isn't really core to the game IMO. Turn based was however.

story is debatable and only time will tell I guess. They APPEAR to be focusing on it more than in Oblivion but they haven't revealed much overall to really tell.

The Humor... yeah, I will say it doesn't seem like that. They seem too worried about the rating to actually try to push the line like Fallout 3 would have if Interplay hadn't died.

I am just really wanting to be excited. So I will not get all "doom and gloom"

At least we get something sort of Fallout... Because god knows it wouldn't have happened if Interplay still had the rights.

Vats? Vats is nothing more than being able to pause the game and target random body parts. Thats nothing like the original turn based gameplay of the originals.

I have to be one of the few Fallout fans that not jaded about the franchise being targeted at a wider audience. I would rather them give the franchise some new blood, over nothing at all.-RPGamer-
I would rather have it targeted towards the people like me. The fact is we don't always get what we want in life and the game isn't being targeted to that audience. I'm still going to buy this game, I will probably enjoy it a way different to the way that I enjoyed Fallout 1 and 2 which is fine. However I would prefer to enjoy the game the same way I enjoyed the original games.

The thing that bugs me a bit here is how people can't understand why others are upset. It's like you have been going to a diner for 7 years, they have been serving the same ol uber family recipe tasty cheeseburgers for years there and then all of a sudden some else buys the diner. Instead of remaining faithful to the old tradition they turn it into a sushi restaurant. When I walk into the diner I'm expecting my cheeseburger that I have been eating for years there now, but all I can get is some sushi. You're damn right I'm not going to be happy about it. There is nothing childish about being upset about this kind of a thing. The newcomers are going to laugh at the oldtimers when they are upset with the change, but they would be just as upset if they couldn't get their sushi because someone decided to make a burger joint in its place. So please don't act perplexed about the reaction towards these changes. It is perfectly understandable. Some people like the changes, some people don't, and some people don't care. There is no reason to single the fans of the old games out and act like they are a bunch of whining babies.

Now I know you are a fan of the old games and welcome the change, but do you understand why others might not want the changes?

As far as story goes, Emil recently stated, "Gameplay is more important than story", and hes become the major driving for behind this game. They're focusing more on this FPS gameplay than they are story, which is pantomime to what Fallout stands for.

Your post was much more rational save for the fact that no you (we, I consider myself a PC gamer first but that is changing because I do not want to align myself with most PC gamers anymore) did not make these companys.

They created the game, we liked it and bought. They made themselves.

But you must admit most posts do not reflect your sentiment, or open minded approach to the changes. They are basicly screaming death to Bethesda you guys suck, we made you, and now we will kill you.

Its not turnbased at all. You're not taking turns, you're just momentarliy slowing down the game. It doesn't ammount to anything mroe than slow-mo targeting in games like Call of Juarez and others. Hardly turnbased.

I can understand it, but that does not make it less childish or foolish. Things change.

But your open minded approach towards the new Fallout is not par for the course for most PC gamers. They like to cry about lack of innovation, and then cry when its not what they personaly want.

Theres a difference between innovation and completely renovating something to the point where the only thing it has in common with the original is pulp references and namesake.

Coyo7e

Sort of.... the developers probably wouldn't be what they are today without the support that the community gave them. And I don't think you can really argue that because the communities for certain franchises are absolutely rabid.

Revisions? They've practically removed any semblance to the originals. How would you feel if Halo became a party game and the main character was master chiefette?

[QUOTE="Vandalvideo"][QUOTE="horrowhip"]Also, Vandal, you do know that they do have turn based combat in this game in the form of the VATS right? They specifically added that because certain people among their playtesters were screaming about it before they went public. So, yes there will be turn based as an option. I don't think isometric is there but that isn't really core to the game IMO. Turn based was however.Vandalvideo

Vats? Vats is nothing more than being able to pause the game and target random body parts. Thats nothing like the original turn based gameplay of the originals.

true but it is turn based... sort of. Like i said i am wanting to like the game.

Its not turnbased at all. You're not taking turns, you're just momentarliy slowing down the game. It doesn't ammount to anything mroe than slow-mo targeting in games like Call of Juarez and others. Hardly turnbased.

Like I said 4 times now... I am ignoring that. It is turnbased... *don't contradict me...*

Not worried about the gameplay really, more about the interface. Hopefully they'll change it for the PC version.

The main point im trying to get a cross is you can whine all you want, but that isnt going to stop Bethesda from Releasing this game. ITs like the Petition for DMC 4, Capcom does what Capcom wants. You honestly think if you guys complain enough there going to say, "gee, maybe we shouldnt release this Game." ?

Oh god... I can imagine bethesda's forums L o L. It's stupid of them to announce a console as the lead platform. Ah well they did say they don't give a sh*t about the fans of the game.

We're not trying to stop bethesda from making the game, we're trying to stop bethesda from tarnishing the fallout franchise and not being true to the series. If they want to kep saying they're being true to the series, then they better live up to that promise.

I'm just trying to make sure I understand the anger...and if it's directed towards consoles somehow handicapping it or if it's just for Bethesda.

Dreams-Visions

bit of both. most of it is just at Bethesda, but there's also not realizing the potential that a PC could offer over consoles (because of the "you can't tell the difference" statement).

I guess I'm asking this: could they do a "true Fallout game" on a console? Or does the controller limit that ability?

Because if it can be done on a console, shouldn't there only be venom for Bethesda's design approaches and not console bashing?

If they want to make less money from Fallout 3 they could; It has nothing to do with consoles but more so the console audience.

We are not talking about not welcoming it. You do not seem to "welcome" the change all that much either. But you are being realistic about the fact that it does change and you will hold of a final opinion, or appreciate the game for what it is.

I did not welcome a lot of the changes to the 4th Elder Scrolls, but not all of them were bad either. Change is fundamental. If nothing ever changed nothing would ever progress either.

Raging against the inevitable is foolish and childish.

I don't think so. All they said was they are working with the 360 in mind. Witch seems to me to be a financial decision, and one that all companys need to consider.

Going for the 360 market must seem like a good financial decision to them. Maybe it is but maybe it is not. But I dont think they made the choice in a vacuum.

It ruined a great horror/survival-franchise and added a great new camera angle? Really the other changes were for the worse, especially when the gameplay had to suffer because of it.

When you play a game, you expect something similar with a sequel. It's only logical and completely natural to think that, but when a developer gives you something different some people aren't going to accept the change, since it's not how they remember it. There's nothing wrong with that and maybe they'll enjoy it in a different way, but it definately won't be what most of the old-time fans are expecting, and it'll be a letdown. Since we've seen so much of the gameplay changed from the originals already, people are complaining, and they have a right to.

Myself? I've never played a Fallout, so this'll be my first. I'll probably enjoy it just like I enjoyed (and actually preferred Oblivion) over it's predecessors which I also eventually played.
