Please don't be a letdown like FO3, please!millerlight89I respect your right to have an opinion but please explain a legitimate reason as to how exactly Fallout 3 was a let down... It was one of the best and most immersive games this generation in my opinion. the locale was fantastic and very well realized, the characters were memorable, the quests were highly enjoyable on almost every level. The main quest, while not being the best in gaming, was moving and handled well. I enjoyed the weapon variety, the combat was fun, though without vats it would have suffered. The enemies were challangeing and for a game as large and expansive as fallout 3, glitches aside, it was handled with great care in its overall scope. I wish more games cared about giving me my 60 dollars worth as Fallout 3 did.
Bethesda games will never have good animations. Their animator is terrible, I think he failed college and just got the job being Todd Howard's buddy.TheEroicathis is kinda funny...
Am I the only one who imagined that as something like:
Animator: "So...can I have the job?"
Todd Howard: "I don't think your skills or qualifications are quite up to our standa-"
Animator: "Aww, please give me the job. I'll be your best friend."
Todd Howard: "Oh. Well in that case..."
the locale was fantastic and very well realizedTheEroica
Actually, that was one of my biggest problems with the game. Fallout 3's setting didn't stick to the lore particularly closely, and didn't make anywhere near as much sense as a post-apocalyptic setting as the other games. I at least expected to see a farm somewhere, or people trying to rebuild DC, or...seeing vending machines that weren't full of food, given how the War was over 200 years ago.

I always imagined the animations being sketchy because they put more focus on the world than the actual visuals. I like your todd howard theory though haha. as for the locale, I i think if they had work crews out rebuilding the wasteland it would take away from the whole desolate wasteland thing... but maybe next gen this is an aspect that could be more carefully accepted?
Omg the next month and a half is gonna make my wallet cry. Now i have to add another game to buy....sigh.
So uhhh instead of giving us a new Elder's Scroll they give us this trash? I hated Fallout 3. What's so special about this expansion pack?drspudzFor the last time, this isn't made by Bethesda.

It was a let down compared to Fallout and Fallout 2 as a RPG. It it didn't have 5% of the gameplay complexity of Fallout 2.

Ok, so it was less RPG than its predecessors and the translation to FPS threw a few people for a loop, I, being someone who played both Fallout 1 and 2 found the game to be highly enjoyable and just well, different... it was trying something different and still maintaining the fallout feel. its shortcomings by comparrison to its predecessors were met with an equal amount of improvments in my opinion. That would be an improvement over the ps3 version of Fallout 3. Let's see if the ps3 can keep up this time :lol:a solid 9.0.

fallout 3 was ok... i got bored real fast of everything looking the same. Not alot of NPCs or quests... just constantly running around barren landscape shooting at rats and ghouls. It was very boring imo.
Too much FPS and not enough RPG for me. Im still very much on the fence with new vegas.
I can see what you're saying but I'll like the game either way. I personally hope they can improve on both fronts, the RPG and FPS aspect of the game. It would have been nice if F3 had more quests or a longer main quest.fallout 3 was ok... i got bored real fast of everything looking the same. yeah, and lets hope if FFXIII Versus goes multi-platform that it's only on 1 disc this time (and the textures aren't buggy and low resolution as ****)
.

i actually havent followed the game much at all, did they say they will be putting in more quests and storyline?
im a little worried that since their semi departure from RPG elements was successful they might continue to move even further away from the RPG roots of the franchise with new vegas.

I think there is many new sidequests but you only get trophies for the main ones ( because they cant make like 100 sidequests and have a trophy for each ), or something like that. Dont quote me on that but I believe I read something about it,

That would be an improvement over the ps3 version of Fallout 3. Im a console gamer all the way but I will admit that this games mods make me want it on PC.a solid 9.0.

Yay! Thanks for linking these I am definately taking the Wild Wasteland Trait, Fallout isnt really fallout without it :). By the way, they mentioned a reputation system which is also great. Will we just have bars or will we also have reputations that work in the same way as Fallout 1, 2 and Temple of Elemental Evil?

The reputation is supposed to work like in Fallout 1 and 2. So if you are well liked with faction b, faction a won't give you the time of day. Also, I agree with the Wild Wasteland trait. Basically a must for all my playthroughs. Can't freakin wait.
Hope obsidian pulls through with this one.
And hardcore mode sounds freaking awesome.

I am sorry but I must have not fully explained my question, I was asking if it has been confirmed that we can have reputations like these (see the Player Reputation section) as well.

Yes. It will be like that.I would like it to be 8.5, but I'm expecting an 8. Maybe 7.5 if the PS3/360 versions have technical hiccups. I played FO3 on PC and really enjoyed how much better it was, compared to consoles. Other than mods, are the console versions of New Vegas supposed to be closer in quality to the PC version? Or because the engine and assets are recycled, will there continue to be a significant difference?
I don't know if anyone would know, but is the ending going to be like Fallout 3 where we can't continue to free roam once it's over?
Wesrcks13
Yes, they've said that being able to play after the ending wouldn't make much sense given all of the big changes you'll be making in the region, so you won't be able to continue playing afterwards. Still, they also said that they'll warn you about the point of no return, so you'll be able to save before then to continue playing.
And for those who haven't seen it, there's a new-ish vid discussing the game's art design and retro-50s style:

It's definitely looking more and more distinct from Fallout 3, that's for sure.

Thanks for the link brother... I added it to the main page. Game looks more and more awesome every time I look at it.
man, it sucks that because this game is multiplat, people on system wars hardly talk about it. It's going to be amazing...0rinLets stir it up... I believe the reviews will be split 3 ways a la dragon age... PC 9.5 XBOX 9.0 and ps3 with its horrible frame rate and glitchtastic tendencies will be 8.5 discuss...

PS3 version is going to be superior to all others. PS3/PC will both get 9.5, and Xbawwwwx will get 8.5 due to a horrible glitch that causes the game to laugh at you for paying to play games online, even when it isn't even online! [/stirring] hehe, but really, I think they'll break even, maybe the PC version will get higher, but I think all versions will get 9.5.
