What is a "free quest?" And is there any word on how many main quests there are?

It won't be necessary at all, but you'll miss a lot of the references to the older games.

The NCR is the New Californian Republic, a major power-player attempting to rebuild the West Coast, which the player helped develop across Fallout 1 and 2.
And the Followers of the Apocalypse...oh, I was thinking of the Children of the Cathedral. Nevermind, they're just a religious group trying to help educate and feed people, things like that.

When all is said and done im starting to feel like New Vegas is going to be the more refined and more memorable experience. The quests look awesome.

I'm tempted to play hardcore... but the ammo encumbrance really puts me off. I was quite the hoarder in FO3, and the thought of perhaps doubling the number of trips it might take to clear a locale and shove all those goodies into my house is unappealing, especially when I wanna play through more than once. Of course, I'm not nearly as informed on the nuances of the hardcore mode as some of you, so it's possible that once the game is in my hands I'll decide to go for it it. A lot of the differences I've read on this thread sound appealing.

Im going 360 all the way. This is a game I wish I had a better computer for however. Fallout Mods are sickly inventive.

the only thing im worried about is the level cap with all these quest. Hopefully the levels dont go up so quick that by the time your done half the side quest you were already at level 20(before broken steel obviously)
