Switch is a handheld. Japan is a handheld focused gaming community. 2 + 2 = 4.

No one expects Sony to surpass Nintendo in Japan. Literally no one is saying that. Yawn. Weak troll.

What's actually funny are those Xbox sales in Japan. How a console can only manage to sell hundreds in a country of tens of millions never gets old. 🤣😂🤣

And good for Nintendo. Half you haters were laughing at them back when they launched with only BotW and 1-2 Switch. Look at them now.

Everything in Japan is second fiddle to mobile. And, like usual, they are ahead of the curve.

Nintendo and Sony operate from the same playbook and are each one misstep from platform irrelevance.

@i_p_daily: You're mistaken. I'm not a cow, just a person who favors gaming on PC, Sony and Nintendo platforms. You know, cuz they actually have games to play on them.

Unlike Xbox. 🤣🤣🤣

And like clockwork, they continue to dump money in a desperate attempt to break into a country that completely ignores them. How PREDICTABLE! 😂

The Switch has literally zero games coming out in 2021 and had nothing in 2020. Its still selling this much. This tells me that the ones buying it are not actual gamers but casuals that decorate their Animal Crossing house since last year, and that's prime gaming experience for them.

I'm going to kind of admit that I don't really care how the PS is doing in Japan. Sony clearly has their focus elsewhere and the Japanese market knows what it wants. Which is the Switch 1st, PS a distant 2nd.

I look at the Xbox numbers and think these must be Americans living over there.

Japan literally belongs to Nintendo. Fanboys of all consoles throughout the world should already know this. Nintendo's first console was called the color TV console which was released in the first generation of gaming in Japan. The Japanese associate video games with Nintendo and it doesn't matter how popular PlayStation becomes in that country they will always view Nintendo as the true meaning and essence of video games. But this is old news and everybody already knows this which is why no one should be surprised that a Nintendo system is completely and totally and utterly dominating Asia right now.

I wonder why more people are buying the S, than the X. Like if i was an enthusiast and wanted to get what in japan is probably considered a niche console, i would much rather get the X than the S

Nintendo owns Japan. Sony having more PS5's won't change that until Japanese gamers start liking consoles more than handhelds. Don't hold your breath.

Good for Nintendo, they struck gold with their portability and have no competition in the department. If its selling this much with literally no games, nothing on the horizon and while also being extremely underpowered, just imagine for a second if they were releasing a bunch of titles like they used to. Actually, there's nothing to imagine cuz it'd be scalped the f up just like the other two and be sold out everywhere.

It's annoying as hell to me as a gamer. The GameCube sold like shit. What did Nintendo do? Try to sway more people by making several amazing games.

Switch doesn't have many games, but sells a shitload anyway. What does Nintendo do? Sit back and chill while counting their money.

I hope Nintendo gets in trouble again. I want some games.

Then why is the hybrid Switch selling more than the cheaper handheld-only option? If it were really that simple, you'd think that the Lite would have killed sales for the hybrid, but outside of launch the hybrid model has been selling more every week that it's had the stock to do so. And why did Vita flop in Japan? There's clearly more to it than that. Sony just isn't trying in Japan. They're not even shipping enough stock there to match the Wii U launch aligned. That's right, it's doing worse than Wii U.

You seem to be under the impression that games just come out of nowhere. Games take far more money and manpower to make than they did 15-20 years ago. Of course they can't put out games the same as they used to. Nobody does. Look at Rockstar. Can you post some comparisons of individual companies to prove that Nintendo's output is bad?

Nintendo's gotta have some sort of witchcraft when it comes to selling products. They can sell cardboard cutouts, McDonald's toys, and lazy ports of 20 year old games and still find success. They need to start selling water to fish if they really want to rake in the cash.

I don't know. All I know is that there were a shitload of great games from Nintendo on GameCube, GBA, NDS, 3DS. Wii was worse on that front, which makes sense since they could rely on the waggle gimmick to sell units. But they still pumped out great handheld games.

Wii U, even that console got some great games, while they still released great 3DS games non stop. Now they could focus all their resources on one system, but still release way less great games than in the past and rerelease old games. I know ambitious AAA games like BotW takes longer to make. So why not make the wait for the heavy hitters easier by releasing smaller 3DS like games on Switch, like they did on the side with their other consoles? Probably because they don't have to when everyone and their grandmother buys a Switch with Animal Crossing.

@techhog89: it's good to see you again! Yeah, Japan sees Nintendo cater to their needs. Sony had their chance with the Vita and blew it. Now Nintendo has grasp the country by hand. The only selling IP that will boost PS5 sales is Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy, and maybe a sequel to Monster Hunter World. Other than that, Sony moving their HQ to California and adapting more western values is what maybe causing Japan to steer away from their products

The switch is a beast! With how ambitious Nintendo titles are again (barring Pokemon). It is good to see them do so well. Rewarded for their efforts.

Same, I game primarily on PC. But Nintendo still has my heart, just because no dev can really compete with their output as far as I am concerned.

I say this as I am currently inbetween reps in Ring Fit Aventure. Game has been a godsend.

And that's to be expected. We all buy Nintendo consoles to play exclusives, and hardly for 3rd-party games. All the good one's are already out and hell, the Switch is 4 years old already, so I totally expect Switch to have less and very less exclusives as the years goes by. We still have Bayonetta 3, Metroid Prime 4, & Breath of the Wild 2 still in development. And I'm okay not getting anything new for the Switch as I have bad habits of replaying fun games on it, even Animal Crossing: New Horizons keeps me busy on my toes. What kind of logic is that? If you have a nice library of the old stuff (like pc or the xbox), that's a nice BONUS to have, but that isn't the main plate you feast on. Relying on games released years ago to justify your miserable second year in a row is just admitting the fact that your system is on life support aka being in the Vita shoes before the system was discontinued.

Nintendo is looking like a meme in 2021.

"We all?" Maybe you and other net dwellers. Not me, I buy third party games on Nintendo systems. In fact, I have way more third party games on my Switch than I ever will first party. And I wouldn't be surprised if many other Switch owners had a more diverse library than that.

Also, way to bring up Bayonetta 3 as "in development". That game is treading Duke Nukem Forever's old waters now, meanwhile Platinum partners with Tencent on what they are focused on.

(Get busy gaming or get busy bitching)

You're a true sheep. The survivor of the 2013 sheep crisis 😱

Sure, man. A huge catalog of games doesn't justify sales. Sure...

And comparing the Switch to the Vita? Are you serious?

@nintendoboy16: Bayonetta 3 isn't cancelled, so its still lock in-development. I'm totally okay waiting if it takes to get these games done right. I have multi-systems for 3rd-party gaming (PC really) and maybe not you, but some of us buy Nintendo consoles to play exclusives. Everyone knows Nintendo makes the best exclusives, there's no denying that.

Game releases wise, the Switch is Vita's brother.

Cows pooping on lems saying how they have no games. Lems pooping on cows saying how the ps5 launched with no games. But the reality is, the Switch is in such a poorer state that many feel bad for even talking about it. Never have we seen a system this lacking in games. Worse time to be a sheep since the WiiU failure days. I don't know what keeps your moral up knowing that the only three games that are annouced, have 2% of coming out on the Switch and one of the three (Bayo3) might not come out at all at this point.

Being a sheep is paintful in 2021 😪

That’s wonderful for Nintendo, and congrats to them. They clearly have a stronghold on Japan, this isn’t news. However what is news for me is how does the Switch having dominated Japan, effects that the ps5 is still the fastest selling console in history in units and dollar amount?

We still haven't heard dog crap from that game in years now. Nothing, but Kamiya's "Oh, everything's fine" bulls***! Like I said, they are focusing on their projects with Tencent... or, I'm sorry, "independent publisher".

Nintendo isn't the only place I buy third party games on. I just bought Shadow of the Tomb Raider on XBONE (X) this week. I'm not the guy that has to buy EVERYTHING as it comes out like damn near everyone else on this forum. Few exceptions (like when Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy and Scott Pilgrim re-released and when I made pre-orders for Street Fighter 30th and Mario 3D All-Stars).

"Nintendo makes the best exclusives, there's no denying that."

Except Sony fans...

Except XBOX fans (ignoring what Phil Spencer thinks)...

And except PC gamers...

They only "care" if something like SEGA or Atari happens, and even there, that's a stretch.

Bro you are selling to scalpers and not gamers right now and production and gaming is bigger than ever no crap it outsold systems from the 90's

no crap dude fix your system and get games like the ps2 had your never gonna outsell that system right now.

Again, you're comparing a near top selling platform that's built a wide variety of games over the years, to a low selling system that made Sony dropped handheld gaming on it's SECOND run! Not to mention, it's library was lacking compared to 3DS (it's main competition).

And how did the GameCube do again? Yeah...

I don't recall people ever calling the likes of Star Fox Adventures, Star Fox Assault, Mario Sunshine, and Chibi-Robo "amazing." But given it's the GameCube, the "Star Wars prequels" of Nintendo's history, that could be revisionist reception kicking in again. And even then...

@ermacness: probably due to scalpers? I still can find a PS5 or Xbox Series console anywhere near me. I refuse to buy one from a scalper
