According to Final Fantasy XIII producer Yoshinori Kitase, the Xbox 360 version of the eagerly awaited RPG may only include English voiceovers due to its limited storage capacity per disc - the PlayStation 3 release, however, is not affected by such constraints thanks to Blu-ray.

"Obviously, when we talk about XIII it's for PS3 and Xbox - with PS3 being on Blu ray there would be enough memory, but on Xbox probably not," said Kitase. "At the moment we're thinking of releasing the voice in English only. Are there many people who would like to play with Japanese voices?"

For the sake of all Final Fantasy fans lets hope that this is the only limitation, I don't want the actual game outside of languages affected just because of the Xbox 360 alone.CriousGamer

Well this makes me a happy camper because now I don't have to worry about the PS3 version being gimped.

I came in praying for a link. Thank you TC. Sux for 360 only owners. I'm a guy who will always give the dub a chance over subs unless its live action, but I would like to have the option.

The english voice acting could be horrible. As someone who watches a fair share of anime, I'll switch languages if I find on cast of VAs lackluster. I'm sure there are plenty of 360-only owners who would either prefer it in Japanese, or would like to have the option.

This once again proves that blu-ray isn't needed but it's a great luxury if games takes advantage of it.

Having both English and Japanese voice-acting is not needed but it's something that can be very fun to have and is something I wished more Japanese devs would take advantage of.

You could claim that this is unnecesarry but you can claim the same thing about most luxuries.

Maybe but has FF really had a bad streak of English VA?

Don't know. I've never played a FF before and only 3 of them have featured VA. I have watched X's story and the VA was decent and XII's seemed good. But you can never tell.

I would agree that the huge majority don't care about this stuff seeing as FF has a huge casual push.

But the small minority or rather a huge portion of the JRPG and SRPG fans would love to play games with Japanese voice-acting. Mainly for the reason that most English voice-acting in these games suck.

I can honestly say I've never been playing a game and thought to myself "You know what would make this game even more badass? If I couldn't understand what they're saying!" this isn't a big deal for 360 gamers at all.

Extreme Delay Confirmed for EU/PAL Region :( I was getting it on playstation anyway but I'll have a bet many rpg fans will go the route of the playstation version with that news, when you've played enough of them you realize that the english actors are very poor overall and they very rarely suit there roles unless they are picked from outside the common voice acting community (aka the anime dubber groups).

I always play JRPG's/SRPG's with Japanese voice acting if I have the option and since I was getting FF XIII on the PS3 anyway this is great news that SE will keep the original Japanese in the PS3 version.

Except for people who don't fluintly speak english. I could see how they would be disappointed. Good thing for MS most of their 360 sales are in english speaking countries. The problem is, its obvious there are space issues. What is not obvious due to dev secrecy is what else will be cut. We may never know.

Hexagon_777

honestly can't rememeber a single rpg that was released here (germany, probably the same in the rest of europe) with another voice track other than english though. hell, you can consider yourself lucky if you get german etc. subtitles.

valkyria chronicles for example only has english and japanese (lucky me) audio and english subtitles...the difference between the the north american and german release (besides it's PAL) is the manual that is printed in german.

the game is so much more enjoyable with japanese audio. i really hope that they include the japanese audio track in the ps3 version. i always use the original language settings with subtitles if possible and there are probably many more out there which love to see this feature.

so FFXIII with japanese audio = big thumbs up:D

They are obviously trying to cutdown the number of discs for the 360 version, but if they are cutting out entire language tracks that frees up a ton of space per disc for them to work with, unfortunately its at the disadvantage of the community that actually wants the things they are cutting out or like stated how are they going to manage the typical mutli-region eu language edition, heck if they just release it with english only into the eu they'll get torn apart by the european union.

I live in sweden I know how it ends up (be back there soon after this contracts up thank god), I also know how it works for these companies when releasing in europe, believe it or not most then actually take heavy fine hits for not localizing software to respective languages of the countries they send them too, lots of software companies get hit with them, only the big ones ever get heard about though. When they bring it to europe they'll have to make multiple copies of the same game with either different language and text or just text for the respective country because otherwise they'll get hammered pretty hard in the wallet, something I doubt square-enix wants considering they out of most companies really can't loss money with a final fantasy game.

...Since it's only being released in the U.S., who cares if it had Japanese Voice Acting or not?

millwrought

Anime snobs. They care. They don't care that they don't speak more than a few words of the language (they can understand things like "THAT'S... IMPOSSIBLE!" and "I WILL HAVE MY REVENGE!!!!" in Japanese), but if you try and suggest to them that hearing it in their native tongue, so they can actually understand what's being said, isn't that bad? You'd think you'd stolen their mother's retirement fund. And don't kid yourselves - there are a lot of them around here. Look at the sigs and avatars for big googly eyes and round-hole mouths.

Oh, and a lot of them have been FF fans ever since Square went metro - they feel at home looking at characters like that.

In any case, for me, if the power of the blue-ray for gaming is that I won't be able to listen to games in a language I don't understand, I'm still not going to rush out and get a PS3.

I wasn't going to play FFXIIIbecause I hate JRPGs. But even if I was going to play the game, then I'd want English voices.

The bigger picture is still that the X360 gets a huge once-exclusive PS franchise

Oh, and a lot of them have been FF fans ever since Square went metro - they feel at home looking at characters like that.

This is ridiculous. Most likely will get it for ps3 anyway but who cares. i dont speak japanese and i dont care to have the option either. most importantly more people get to play this great game and square makes more money. i dont think it makes a difference to 99% of people that were gonna buy this game.
