That would be one big DLC... like 2 or 3 GB... Do you know how much dialogue is in a Final Fantasy game? xD

Is SE even compressing voices?

Gta3-fan334
When you compress sound too much, your game can begin to sound like Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. Think of the sound quality in your average streaming video...

[QUOTE="Rockman999"]

[QUOTE="CriousGamer"]According to Final Fantasy XIII producer Yoshinori Kitase, the Xbox 360 version of the eagerly awaited RPG may only include English voiceovers due to its limited storage capacity per disc - the PlayStation 3 release, however, is not affected by such constraints thanks to Blu-ray.

"Obviously, when we talk about XIII it's for PS3 and Xbox - with PS3 being on Blu ray there would be enough memory, but on Xbox probably not," said Kitase. "At the moment we're thinking of releasing the voice in English only. Are there many people who would like to play with Japanese voices?"

For the sake of all Final Fantasy fans lets hope that this is the only limitation, I don't want the actual game outside of languages affected just because of the Xbox 360 alone.

Link

Well this makes me a happy camper because now I don't have to worry about the PS3 version being gimped.

So... for someone like me, who does not speak or read japanese... how dose this affect me (and most of north america)??? In other words, the game will work 100% the same, but you can't hear it in a foreign language that doesnt matter to you.... hmmm. FAILED EPIC FAIL....

I came in praying for a link. Thank you TC. Sux for 360 only owners. I'm a guy who will always give the dub a chance over subs unless its live action, but I would like to have the option.TheGrat1

lol love your sig and completely agree: im a lot more forgiving when it comes to english dubs

It's mainly going to make the people who can't play JRPGs without Japanese voices and English subtitles mad, but no one else. In my opinion, I can't stand playing the games that way, but a lot of people like to do that, probably enough so that they would skip the 360 version if it wasn't an option. "Failed epic fail?" C'mon man, you're making the rest of us look bad here...

I don't see why SE is wasting their time and money making a port of this game on the 360. I can see this game selling so much better on the PS3. And how many disc's is this game going to be on for the 360?! LMAO

I watch lots of anime and I always watch them in japanese dub with english subtitles.

English voiceacting seems so forced and unnatural.

-Traveller-

Cowboy bebop has some phenomal voice acting though

Agreed, you can get some animes with fantastic English VA. Some just outright suck though :(

I think it depeneds on how good the production is, FF has gotten better. 12 was very well done I though and the voice acting was pretty solid. But Some animes just have steallar sound production. Ergo Proxy, Evangelion, Patlabor

[QUOTE="johnlennon28"]I think theres only a very small percentage of non japanese gamers who would like to play it in japenese voice actingJLF1

I would agree that the huge majority don't care about this stuff seeing as FF has a huge casual push.

But the small minority or rather a huge portion of the JRPG and SRPG fans would love to play games with Japanese voice-acting. Mainly for the reason that most English voice-acting in these games suck.

If you care enough to play it in Japanese, you care enough to import it and play it properly. :P - I mean really, why sit around waiting for US release? Get it as soon as it comes out in Japan, and enjoy.

It's better if you have English subtitles and Japanese voice acting (and of course, the option for English voice acting as well).

I don't see how anyone can complain about the existance of a secondary audio track. It's like S-E ports: It's existance can't harm you.

If you've ever gotten into Ghost in the Shell or FLCL, you will gain an immediate appreciation for the problem with subtitles. Translation is problematic at best, and subtle connotations, cultural inflections, and colloquialisms die before the dictionary. The other problem is the inherient grammato-structural change wrought by the Japanese to English shift. In essence, for any emotional content, the cultural and inner meaning is changed. For intellectual content, there is a tradeoff between explaining the speakers intended meaning, and maintaing their wordplay. - Not that this matters to most people - the main reason to import is to get the game six months to a year earlier than the US release. You'll be on your second playthrough before your friends have even placed their preorder.

Ergo Proxy and Evangelion were two very good choices. Both had excellent english VA.

FF 12 I didn't mind, though the quality of the VA audio seemed quite bad. I'm not sure if it was just me, but it almost sounded "phoned" in. The acting seemed good though.

If you're looking to play Final Fantasy XIII in Japanese on the Xbox 360, looks like you will run into trouble. As far as I know, the game is not coming out in Japan on the Xbox 360, so there will not be a Japanese language track available for the 360, ever. I'm not into conspiracy theories, but let me try one: This is to prevent the Japanese from reverse importing the game into Japan so they do not have to purchase a PS3. What if Sony had some sort of agreement with SE that prevented them from releasing a Japanese language track on the 360? This may sound crazy, but how else would one get a JP language track on the 360?

Don't get me wrong, I fully plan on importing. And I'm well aware of the issues in translation. I recently played Final Fantasy VIII. Not only were things changed, but they were needlessly changed and gross misinterpretations were made that ruined an entire scene.

The problem is that the USA ver. is always better gameplay wise. The Japanese have the "opportunity" if being the test market for the glitches inherit in certain Final Fantasy games. In some cases, international versions are released - but these are built off the USA ver and have English voice acting with Japanese subtitles.

So that's the issue. It's best to have the superior, western gameplay ver. with the Japanese voice acting as an option. That way the Japanese at least exists. This is coming from the perspective of someone who is minoring in Japanese. ^^;

Honestly, the fanboy in me thinks "Awesome! PS3 version = superior!" but in reality, this doesn't really matter. The only people saying "Who knows what else will be cut!" are just trying to use the same old tired fanboy scare tactics to get the other fanboys on the defensive. Still, it's fun to see people turn little scraps and tid-bits of news into groundbreaking megaton news that will forever seal the fate of ____ console.

That's true, though Final Fantasy has tradtionally been more "story driven" than "gameplay driven"... with repeated animations being shortened, and such. The largest example of real "Japan to US" changes I can think of, in terms of gameplay, for Squeenix, came on a pretty shoddy game though... - Either way, PS3 owners get the options, but honestly I can't imagine them butchering the English voices in XIII.

-

Personally, for the US version, my choice between platforms will depend on which game is offering the best audio / video.

I love how some people saying this is not a big deal. Maybe it's not but if they already cutting just extra languages I wonder what else they may end up cutting just to fit on the dvd. im so glad I have a PS3. Blu Ray is slowly startting to be needed and only fanboys are in denial.

it may just be audio but its still a big deal. the game isn't even close to the release date and their having problems? right now the audio isn't enough to say that the 360 version is inferior. i mean who can speak Japanese anyway. but we all know this isn't the only thing that will affect the 360 version. we still have a year left and there having storage issues. its common sense to claim the ps3 version as the superior version.

You beat me to the punch yet again. Watch any subbed GitS, and you'll see that so much is lost in the translation process. There are even some instances where things aren't explained properly and nothing seems to make sense (see; Individual Eleven).

Lol, that might not be everyone's native language though.

I bet neither Japnese :P (especially if we consider the 360 version is not released in Japan, making it irrelevant)

Wow. We won't be able to play the game in a language that 99% of us are unable to understand. Most of us 360 owners would never use it, but I'm sure we'll all go out and buy a PS3and await the games releasejust to know that we'll havea uselessfeature available to us.

This post = sarcasm. This thread = pointless.
