I just read this and I'm not sure Lems should be hyping it....

http://blog.wired.com/games/2008/06/preview-too-hum.html#more

Although it's obvious the writer liked the idea, it seems way too short for him. And the fact he said this:

"Too Human will be available August 19. I expect that it will garner a very wide range of review scores."

Wide range of review scores.....probably means a good chance it gets 7-7.5 here.

oh and it's a 10 hr long RPG.....which probably means gamers will go through it in 6-8 hrs.

Length shouldn't be as big of a factor if the quality is there. I think this will be a love-it-or-hate-it type of game, but since I dig hack-n-slash gammes, I'm sure I'll fall into the love it category.

Length isn't a big factor in RPGs????? Since when? I'm sorry but I'd like to think most people who love RPG's would consider that length to be way too short. They've been working on this game for what, 10 years? So 1 year for every hour that you play? Heck 10 hrs (which like I said is probably 8 hrs) is the equivalent to the quick shooter games today.....now they are making quick RPGs, sorry that is crap.

If FF13 turned out to be 10 hrs long, I'd be saying the exact same thing.

Nope. The previewer played it in 10 hours.

Secondly, MGS 1 was about 3 hrs, and it still one of the best games ever made.

If a game is good, and if it has good replay value, lengh is not that big problem.

I've always maintained this isn't an AAA game. I think 10 hrs is too short but its not fair to compare it to FF as its a very different game.

I don't play MGS trying to get the same experience as when I play RPGs.

The previewer finished it in 10 hours, he also had quite a bit of work put into his characters. He stated it almost disappointed him at how sudden the ending seem to come.

And MGS1 was not an RPG. Also, it took work to finish it within 3 hours. Usually on a sucessive playthrough.
I don't imagine the previewer had played it before then.

After reading that review it doesn't even look AA.

I just find it funny it ended up as 10 hrs...........they've been working on the game forever and that's what they come up with. From the sounds of it the ending is like the Sopranos........if the sales fail you can rest assured there will be no part 2 either.

Eh... what has to do FF13 with the topic? I thought we were taking of Too Human.

Mass Effect was about 14hrs, and it is still a masterpiece. I also expect a lot of side quests in Too Human, and some additional content downloadable (just like ME), so I still think it deserves a chance.

And again, the previewer SAID that HE played it in 1o hrs. It could change depending on the player.

This game reminds me of something like Gauntlet Legends, anyone remmeber that game? That was one heck of a fun game to play with friends. That was not a very long game, and regardless of scores, I loved it. I've looked at Too Human, not terribly in-depth, but from the videos I've seen it looks to have a feel along the same lines, so I'm sure I'll like the game regardless of length

The preview actually said if you feel so inclined you could beat it in a little over 10 hours. "If you're so inclined, you can slam through Too Human's campaign in a little over ten hours"

1- A wide range of scores means love or hate= Assassins Creed(AAA here, AA others, A at others,) AA average.

2- There are 2 hands on with this game.

3- The game was blend of action/rpg, so im not shocked it isn't a 30 hour game. He said you can blow through the game in 10 hours(but you will miss all the other side quests and extras)

4- The RPG elements and gameplay elements were praised in the other hands on.

5- The storytelling is very good, just it has a cliffhanger. WHich we should have seen coming since all we have heard is this is a Trilogy.

6- Me personally I think it still has a shot at 8.0

7- 4 games that were enjoyed by the people on this site but were given 7s Boom Blox, Lost Odysse, Ratchet, and Audiosurf. SO i don't see how getting a 7.5 is a bad thing.

8.0 is my bet.

First of all, a distinction needs to be made between what really is or isn't an "RPG". This is a hack-n-slasher through & through with RPG elements, it doesn't need to be 50 hours long to be enjoyable. And if you would have taken the time to read the actual link, it says you could slam through the game that quickly if you wanted to, but people who want to slow it down can do so as well. Any game can be beaten in a much shorter span if you ignore everything to the exculsion of simply getting to the end.

So again, quantity does not always = quality, even in an "RPG".

Too Human is about re-play, not rushing through. It's technically possible to beat Mass Effect in under five hours - it's still a solid 50 ~ 100 hours by the time you're ready to put it down. I plan to play more than 24 hours *straight* when I get the game - and there's no way in hell you can get the best armors, weapons, stats, and teammates set up in ten hours.

-

Time and time again this holds true "those who criticize Too Human do not understand it".

-

And frankly I dislike Lemmings - they started bashing this game as soon as they feared it would be too 'out there' to get guaranteed review scores. That's simply sad.

If it seemed like a fun game then 10 hrs would not be an issue... but considering that it looked boring as an action game, and one of its main appeals was that it was supposed to be more of an rpg... 10 hrs is pretty dissapointing. I will definitely pass on this one.

What lemmings have hyped this game? It has only been hyped by true gamers - fanboys have been running scared since day one, fearing a flop (or cheering for one - in the case of non-360 fans). Only genuine gamers would stick by a game like Too Human.

Technically, Mass Effect's speed run record is around the three hour mark. Technically you can beat MGS4 in under five hours if you skip the cutscenes - and that number will only get lower as time goes on. But y'know, apparently "content" vs "how quickly can I skip everything in the game and see the ending screen" is not a distinction that matters. That's sad to me - because *technically* you can beat Fallout 2 in twelve minutes - that doesn't mean it's a short game.

Yea, if it gets an 8 or 8.5 then that's not bad. From what I've seen and read though, I'm thinking it will do worse. Even at a 7 or 7.5 it's probably worth buying for those really interested in the game or story. But for me, the graphics look really uninspired and the gameplay seems just as flat. I don't think there's anyway it will score less than a 7... but personally, it just doesn't look like a good game.

The preview said you can beat the game in ten hours "if you are so inclined." This means forgoing arenas, dungeons, etc.

If you are so inclined, and if you are so skilled, you can beat Diablo 2 in less time than that. Does that mean Diablo 2 lacks content or replayability? Hell no.

I don't like the sound of that cliffhanger ending... Hopefully it's not a Halo 2 style "buy the next game to see how this one finishes!" style ending.

I don't understand quite why so many people are saying it'll be terrible because of the story length. As long as there are sidequsts to pad it out then it should be ok, or at the very least an element of replayability.

Nope. The previewer played it in 10 hours.

Secondly, MGS 1 was about 3 hrs, and it still one of the best games ever made.

If a game is good, and if it has good replay value, lengh is not that big problem.

MGS 1 was made in 1999...

Umm, thats not a very good argument

Considering you cannot access a good 50% of the content, and only access one of thousands of possible character builts on the first go, replay is a requirement.

Length shouldn't be as big of a factor if the quality is there. I think this will be a love-it-or-hate-it type of game, but since I dig hack-n-slash gammes, I'm sure I'll fall into the love it category.ColoradoKindBud

I like to get more out of $60 than a 10 hour game.

Just because you *can* beat it in ten hours doesn't mean you *will*. You *can* beat Diablo 2 in about 8, but that doesn't mean you *won't* spend hundreds of hours getting all the phat lewtz.

As I already said, this guy said "if you are so inclined". That pretty much equates to "speed run". Speed runs are *not* indicative of the full game's true length.

I'll wait and see. I like how SK decided to give the review sites almost a month to play the game prior to it's release - that shows confidence on their part.

I'm not sure why people are so obsessed with listening to others. Why can't we all think for ourselves? I know this is definitely a game I'll dig. It looks epic and I love the combat. It seems like a game that I'd like. I don't need critics to tell me otherwise. I still think this will be a AA game and all the haters will be too scared to show face.

[QUOTE="ColoradoKindBud"]Length shouldn't be as big of a factor if the quality is there. I think this will be a love-it-or-hate-it type of game, but since I dig hack-n-slash gammes, I'm sure I'll fall into the love it category.Killfox

I like to get more out of $60 than a 10 hour game.

I beat Crysis in less than 10 hours and it was $50.

Ok... people complaining about 10 hours need to shut up.

Mass Effect's storyline could be finished in 7-8 hours quite easily.

Oblivion's could be finished in 4-5 hours easily.

Diablo and Diablo II were short if you just ran through the storyline.

The only recent WRPG whose STORYLINE(meaning ignoring all exploring and all side-quests) was 10 hours or more was The Witcher, and that was largely because it was based off of a book.

Agreed, I've seen gameplay vids. and read about it and....It doesn't seem impresive to me, kinda boring. I don't need ppl telling me I'm a blind fanboy only because I don't appreciate this game.

[QUOTE="vicmackey39"]soon lemmings. Prepare to be ownedsubrosian

What lemmings have hyped this game? It has only been hyped by true gamers - fanboys have been running scared since day one, fearing a flop (or cheering for one - in the case of non-360 fans). Only genuine gamers would stick by a game like Too Human.

Exactly. Fanboys are always so scared of "teh ownage" by a controversial game like Too Human, so they run far, far away. Only real gamers would have the guts to back something getting slammed so much.

Sandbox editor FTW. Plus you can play the game multiple times because its your choice to sneak or be as loud as you can with guns a blazing. I dont play online but atleast it does have online.

It is probably the type of game that grows on you. When I first played Baldur's Gate 2 last month, I was like "WTF?!??! This is considered to be one of the greatest RPGs ever?!?!!?" However, as I played through the game, I came to realize just how awesome it was-from the amazing plot to the deep RPG mechanics.

Diablo 2 was much the same-I played the first hour or two and wondered why my friends were praising it to high heaven, then put it down. Months later, over the summer, I was in a gaming drought and decided to give it a try again. I logged in hundreds of hours that summer alone.

Just because your first impressions of a game might not be particularly good, you may end up loving it, and I think that this is what SK is banking on-they know that this is *not* a pick up and love game. Rather, it is a pick up, get into, then love game.

Oh, so additional modes are now part of the main game? I guess it's alright to throw out that Too Human has 2 player co-op, which expands the length and value of the product. I really bet you have plenty of games that are easily finished within 10 hours. I'm not buying into the idea that you don't have games that are 10 hours or less, which you haven't spent between $40-$60 for.

Alot of people stated that Mass Effects campaign was "short", too, but my first playthrough took me about 120 hours. Thats because I leave no stone unturned, and dont rush it. I like to explore RPGs as completely as I can. This "slam through in 10 hours" will more than likely have me hitting the 100 hour hash mark when I get done exploring the heck out of it. :D

yes.

And there is the whole looting and leveling up.

This game has a similar structure of gameplay to Diablo. And to put it simply, despite having a very short storyline, it is quite easy to waste 1000 hours on Diablo.
