Listen, I don't mean to offend people when I say this, but...

You guys think you are hardcore because you play these extremely slow paced JRPGs or crappy stealth games with incredibly complicated sotrylines that everyone pretends to understand so they can seem smart.

Right.

First person shooters is your favorite genre. Sure, people are different, but most people would rather have ice cream over a bucket of poop, right? First person shooters is the ice cream, while every other genre is the poop. Deep down inside, you know you love first person shooters more than any genre out there. You guys just try to act hardocre by pretending that you like these crazy Japanese anime crap. No, those types of games don't really pick up speed until the mid-way point, and by then, nothing makes sense. Throw in extremely cheesy dialogue and you have yourself a winner.

Now, I'm not just going to post this with baseless claims. I'll give you some reasons why my favorite genre is first person shooters, and why your favorite genre is first person shooters:

RTS: Strategizing isn't fun. You are constantly thinking of what to do next. In FPSs, you get a gun, and you know what to do with it. Occasionally, you duck and cover, but that's where the strategy ends. A game with strategy in mind just isn't much fun at all. I don't play games to think. I play games to beat the crap out of other people.

JRPGs: Long drawn out storylines with extremely slow paced game play.

Fighters: Memorize button combos. That's the game right there.

Platformers: Were only fun back in the day when FPSs sucked. Frustrating to the max and lacking any sort of purpose aside from running around aimlessly wondering what to do next.

I could go on, but you get the point. FPSs, and a few other genres (action adventure), I feel, is the only established genre that is fun. I'd take Turning Point over Super Mario Galaxy every day. The latter is just too kiddy with boring game play. On top of that, it's too easy. Turning Point sucks, but at least I can, you know, actually enjoy what I'm doing.

So in the end, FPSs are hella fun. You can pretend you like exploring and solving puzzles, but it's time to admit it: Zelda sucks. Metal Gear Solid sucks. Final Fantasy sucks. Call of Duty 4... is legendary.

I admit that we get tons of FPSs. That's true, but we need more... quality ones, like Call of Duty 4 or Halo 3. I could never get into Half Life 2.

I also wouldn't mind another game along the lines of GEARS OF WAR 2!

strategy is not automatically bad, boring, slow, or unrewarding. you just don't look for strategy, and that's fine. but other people do get satisfaction and have fun by thinking around problems and outsmarting challengers.

I like Guitar Hero and DDR, or any other game with an interesting control scheme.

It's just most games screw up in so many areas that it's hard to forgive it. JRPGs can be so much better if they just got rid of some of the garbage. At least make the protaganist a man instead of a pansy.

I don't like Japanese anime pansies. Not trying to offend anyone here, but I don't dig the style of Japanese cartoons.

Also, guns>swords.

At least in FPS's you aren't mindlessly tapping buttons in an attempt to win at... tapping buttons the fastest. :|

But I've never found a strategy game that isn't automatically bad, boring, slow, or unrewarding. Give me some intense, fast paced action.

Sorry that cracked me up. It's people like you who are the reason FPS's like Halo 3 and CoD4 are showered with praise. There's a reason Valve is the most respected FPS developer out there, they make the best, most innovative FPS's. Every year that a Valve game comes out,all other shooters pale in comparison.

Actually FPS are my least favorite genre. I mean yeah I do enjoy running around shooting people but honestly after about half an hour it's boring. Turn corner shoot someone, turn other corner shoot again, go around the next corner and wouldn't you beleive it there's someone else to kill. I much rather play an RTS or RPG.

And I'm sure that SM64, BK, and BT all rocked, because Golden Eye and Perfect Dark were mediocre FPS.

I take it you haven't played an FPS in recent years.

There's some difficult situations you are put through. For example, Call of Duty 4 has a tree, and you can shoot a bee-hive on that tree to make all the bees attack the soldiers! Just a little example of how there is more to it than "just shooting."

How many units a game sells does not indicate the quality. Of course if you ask these guys:

jocks

They won't have a clue what Half-Life is. The fact of the matter is,not everyone is a mindless jock who turns on their 360 screaming

"YEAH MATHA*****! LET"S KILL SOME MATHA******** ALIENS AND TERRORISTS! BOO YEAH!"

Warcraft 3,a 5 year old, boring, slow paced, terrible RTS (sarcasm) has just as many online players as CoD4.

HTML not working. You know your quote.

SSCyborg

Super Mario Galaxy GOTY: The only reason GameSpot gave Galaxy GOTY is because they are known for enjoying FPSs a lot. They don't typically cater to Nintendo or Sony fans. So in order to make people believe differently, they gave GOTY to Galaxy instead of Call of Duty 4. A page long review of Mario Galaxy and only a few positive comments versus all the other stuff COD4 got.

The Banjo games are collectathons. Run around and collect something so you can unlock another world where you can collect more things. That's pretty much all platformers are, now that I think about it.

I also wouldn't mind another game along the lines of GEARS OF WAR 2!

Then why is there more wordly praise for Halo and Call of Duty?

I asked my friends, and honest to God, none of them even knew what Half Life was. Guess how many knew what Halo or Call of Duty was?

How many units a game sells does not indicate the quality. Of course if you ask these guys:

They won't have a clue what Half-Life is. The fact of the matter is,not everyone is a mindless jock who turns on their 360 screaming

"YEAH MATHA*****! LET"S KILL SOME MATHA******** ALIENS AND TERRORISTS! BOO YEAH!"

Warcraft 3,a 5 year old, boring, slow paced, terrible RTS (sarcasm) has just as many online players as CoD4.

Fair enough. I never said Half Life is bad. I just prefer Halo and Call of Duty a lot more, which isn't a rediculous statement at all.

HTML not working. You know your quote.

And in shooters all you do is run around and shoot things. I fail to see your point as to why they are so much better, especially when you are using Call of Generic 4 as your example.

So in other words you have a short attention span.

Go ahead and pretend you don't. Everyone does, these days. But I understand how it's cool to pretend you enjoy playing stuff that is supposed to be fun, even though it isn't. Half of the time, you are just working for the fun part. When the fun part comes along, it isn't even worth it.

Oversimplification FTL! There is much more to it than that. Even if it was that simple, it's still more fun than playing as a fat Italian plumber blasting through space, trying to collect stars in an attempt to overtake a giant, fire-breathing, mutated turtle that has captured the same Damsel in Distress for the last twenty-five years.

Generic? MODERN warfare. Rankings. Best graphics ever conceived in a video game. Need I go on?

you can't impose your opinions on other people. it's not like everyone here is deluding themselves by not liking shooters as much as you do. strategy is actually fun for other poeple, not just an illusion of fun. your opinion does not contradict that.

Tell me if you enjoy this:

You are in a room. There are 1100 puzzle pieces. You must fit them together correctly. Of course, this isn't actually challenging. It's all freaking trial and error. Basically, it's either extremely time consuming or you luck out and find it instantly. Oh yeah, so how the hell am I supposed to know that lighting a fire opens a door? (Zelda)

that is both a generalization and an exxageration. puzzle games are not like that. puzzle games are fair challenges.

Refer to bolded.

Because we haven't had countless FPS based in our time? Right? From that graphics line I'm guessing this is just an account you made to troll. But please go on.

Answer me this:

There's 10,000 different people in a room. They have an option of either eating poop or ice cream. What do you think the ratio will be?

video games aren't food, nor are they poop. that analogy is not valid.

No, that's what platformers are. Please explain to me some in depth stuff about what else you can do.

Best console graphics. Whatever. Crysis is a PC game, so it doesn't count. Call of Duty 4 is at least in the top five.
