The problem is not the economy. And it's not the gaming division. That just is one division of several.
With TV, many TV markers, not just Sony, have lost tens of million of dollars. Why? Market saturation, falling prices, shipping declines, falling profit margins, cheaper competition, and the flop of 3DTV.
With music, the market has changed, Apple has taken over, and Sony has failed to keep pace.
With home media, DVD business is declining, and while BD is growing, it's clear it has not been the runaway monster hit many were hoping it would be.
With computer, again, the market has changed. People are buying less desktops/laptops, and more tablets/smartphones, and Sony has failed to keep pace.
Also, let's face it. While Sony has been in trouble for a few years now, and again, it has bigger issues than the gaming division, the fact that Vita is doing really poor, so far, is not exactly helping,.
