Who the hell was comparing it to the PS2 or PS3? It was a bonus that MS originally said wasn't going to happen. They did and cows repeated over and over and over again "who get's a current gen console to play last gen games, BC isn't needed I can just connect my last gen console if I want to play my old games". Context is King. No one made fun of the XBox One for having BC, people made fun of Lemmings because BC was announced in lieu of new games. On its own, BC is a good feature to have. Where the eff were ya'll when the PS3 launched with it? Oh, that's right. Guess I wasn't talking about the 5 there.

So smart people held onto their last gen consoles and games. Then, 2 years later MS decided to do it, after saying it was impossible. Well, those people that wanted to play their old games would have kept the console(360) and it's games. So BC comes out... People either have their console and games still or they really didn't care and traded/sold them by that time. Which means they'd have to rebuy their games to play on Xbox One. Fast forward to the launch of PS5... My library which is mostly all digital this gen would seemlessly work on my PS5 immediately and I could trade in my Pro if I felt like it(I wouldn't but others might). My point is MS decided to do BC way too late. It's cool when it's done at the next gens release... For instance, say PS5 came out tomorrow, it'd be nice to boot it up and download Monster Hunter World(maybe with a texture pack or something) without having to use my Pro, which could go in another room or given to a poor relative.

What Sony was trying to do with PS2 games seems like a failure too... I hardly see any new ones. Now MS is doing BC with OG Xbox(aka PS2 era)... There's no downside to it, but how many people really want that? And if so, why? I play my N64 sometimes for nostalgia giggles, but man, those games are like 15-20fps and sometimes drop worse than that. And they just feel old. Side scrollers are still ok I guess, but that doesn't take much.

Seems reasonable to me. There are several questions that are unanswered such as clockspeed and whether or not this 8 core cpu is 8 cores or 4 cores/8 threads. I imagine these early dev kits are nothing more than a Vega64, ryzen 1600x combo to scale the power of the final retail unit. Assuming Navi 56 version is used in retail model it should be just as powerful as the previous Vega 64.

Well they could always just take a loss like in previous generations. What exactly are you expecting theme to release? It has to be a generational improvemement and throwing something thats marginally more powerful than the One X under the hood makes no sense. X360 Xenos was the pc equivalent X1900($499), Xbox(2001) GPU was geforce 3 equivalent ($499), etc and that is just for the graphics chip. If Sony or Microsoft want to they can release whatever they want to.

Why would Sony implement BC? Carrying over the PS4 into PS5 is a security risk to Sony, it’s already been cracked and people are playing free games right now on PS4. 2019 is too early. Im 100% sure ps5 will release with navy release in order to be a true next gen console.

With ps4 pro and ps4 slim prices going down maybe 100 bucks on ps5 release (So they will still be relevant as budget gaming options for low budget gamers in the future).

One s and X will follow price drop and microsoft might release next console on 2021 (months or 1 year after ps5) also with navy gpu.

Some web sites that got it right on pro and x power and prices are saying ps5 and xbox2 will both be 1000€ consoles with next gen navy. So the main public will still buy ps4 pro and one x for less 100€ than now while enthusiasts will jump to next gen

The best reason to own a Xbox is the controller and BC. Used to be Halo, Gears, Forza, Fable. Fable is gone, Halo is deprecated, Gears and Forza are on PC. Last gen as a result of the lame Cell CPU the 360 got a load of 3rd party exclusives, or early release dates. Stuff like ME1, L4D, TW2, ect. Seems like Sony gets those now.

Credit where credit is due, when the PS3 faltered, Sony went to town on 1st-party exclusives. This was a process taking years. Later it was revealed that Sony only makes profit on 4 out of 10 1st-party games they make. So they sacrifice to build the brand image as pro-gamer. MS did a nice thing with BC and X1X, but I've seen no proof of effort towards actual games.

This doesn't mean I'm auto jumping on the PS5 train, but history tends to repeat itself. Could be a corporate culture thing, and MS just lucked out with the Cell CPU fiasco last gen.

Sony headquarters in shambles after the Switch tore them a new one. Sony execs are rushing some half-assed attempt at a new console to win back some of their shrinking market share.

A console is only as good as its games. Switch doesn't have a lot of multiplats but it has really good exclusives, PS4 has really good exclusives too. The Xbone is the only console I've seen that completely lacks exclusives but its fanboys try to tout it as a good console because its a PC-lite experience. Why would I or anyone buy a PC-lite experience especially nowadays that everyone and their grandma owns a PC thanks to the surge in PC gaming? You're not helping your case dude.

Power to PS4 was just a bonus, it was all about exclusive games, price on both console launch was obvious between $400 vs $500 and no one was gonna buy a $500 with forced Kinect that nobody ask for and hardly any exclusive games compare to PS4.
