They do and they don't. There's so much money involved in the industry these days it is hard to believe everything you read. Often times things(media) are hyped, publications/websites gather far more attention press when they take the negative route. Not only that, but the whole "critic" thing has been blown out of proportion. Years years ago it was someone that was able to look at things objectively--which still exists in the minority--and tear the given media apart, giving people/consumer an outlook on the game/product/movie/etc. For example: Super Mario Galaxy 2 is an EXTREMELY well put together project. Everything from the music/art direction/play mechanics are top notch and deserve all the praise they get.

On the other side of things, the Halo Franchise often gets far too much negativity than it deserves. These games are very well balanced, and like them or not, they are more or less bug free and play as the developer intended. Just because people didn't get what they want doesn't make the game bad.

Now, a LOT of the negativity surrounding GT5 IS because of Sony continuously hyping the game as something we would not believe. It was hyped as the true next gen racer. Unfortunately, the game turned out not to be what was made out to fans/consumers. That, however, does not mean it deserved some of the lousy scores it recieved. It is what it is, and more or less plays flawlessly.

Boring to YOU. There's a big difference between a poorly made game and what you are saying. I couldn't stand gt4. I thought it was the biggest waste of that gen. I don't have that problem with gt5. What bothered me about the game initially were little aspects that I couldn't believe recieved no attention. So I agree with people calling it a flop, but in the sense that they were expecting Uncharted levels of polish--which is something we were lead to believe. However, after the fact, the game is still a really fine experience. If you read all the non-gaming reviews done by racing sites, they all prefer GT5 over Forza. Forza just has this slight assist to the driving which changes the feel of the game.

No, i'm not, really. This happens in the media all the time. Here's an example: The ipad. EVERY reviewer loves it, or so they say, but people fear giving the thing negative press because it can cause a lack of "credibility" amongst their careers. If you look at that particular situation, before the unit came out, people raved about what it was going to offer--online conferencing, etc. The first version of it lacked key features that seemed natural to the device. No usb/expandable memory? Now personally I don't care what people think of it, but it is silly to think that money/press doesn't play a role in any popular product reviews these days. Blahh, I don't know...

Same. What is annoying is that people will acuse you of never playing forza because it scored higher. Blast Corps for the N64 recieved an 8.something, but these days most people will say it is one of the best games on the console and deserved a better score.
